same here, but we could only open the gift after going to church that night. This year though, we're opening all gifts Christmas eve, since I'll be driving down to Z hills Christmas day.

does anyone know a place that sells them?

It's fun to look back at old threads.

So who got a Christmas bonus or gift from their boss?
jheadley replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
My boss gave me a "If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you" sweatshirt. -
How to kill your friends
jheadley replied to WeakMindedFool's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good discussion, if I had to add something, I'd say that EVERYONE on a hybrid must have solid belly flying skills, yes, even the hangers and stingers. Also, large formations have large burbles, something that typical freeflyers don't run into very often. -
Education is definitely the key to understanding, and that's true for anything. Try to educate them about the sport, safety, training, regulations, etc., but don't try any of the "skydiving is perfectly safe" BS.

Going on my first jump on Friday.
jheadley replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why'd you pick on me? Two other people mentioned it before me. Notice that I only suggested reading section 4. Maybe I should have been more clear, only saying to read Cat A. I definitely agree that to a first jump student 90% of the SIM would just bore and overload them. But I remember I breezed though my first jump course because I looked over the FJC outline in the SIM previously, and several students I've taught the FJC to have done the same. It's a lot to take in in just one session. -
Going on my first jump on Friday.

First, good luck on your jump, it'll be a life changing experience. Please write back on how it went, I love to hear first jump stories. 2nd, like others have said, be very very cautious with who you take advice from. While something an experienced jumper says may be factually true, it may not be true FOR YOU. Students have different rules from experienced jumpers, and every student is a little different also. The instructors will tell you exactly what you need to know, when you need to know it. Being overloaded by too much information can be just as bad as not having enough. If you want to read something in the mean time, I suggest you buy a SIM, or download it from www.uspa.org and read through Section 4 (the student program), before reading anything else. Good luck, and remember to -
Every time I try to look at streaming video, like from YouTube, or that 10th dimension video that I really want to watch, my computer never downloads it past a quarter or a third, and then it just stops. I can try to refresh it all I want and it will never completely download. I have a DSL connection that usually works pretty well. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Why is santa's sack so big? Because he only comes once a year.

17 posts into a tequila thread, and no sign of Vinny... somebody call him and make sure he's ok.

Did anyone actually understand the very very obscure reference when they first saw it?

1st, Sabre 2 170, taken from ground, I was at 500 feet or so. 2, Sabre 2 150, taken on landing by Laszlo Andacs. I like having a center cell that is different from all the other cells, it makes packing easier.

I have ~400 jumps on Sabre 2 170 and 150, both pretty significantly out of trim. Not a single hard opening. Some a little less comfortable than others because I didn't completely flare out of my track (you remember to do that, right?), but none hard. I do nothing to the nose and just quarter the slider well, and open with good body position. I'd say 50% are off heading 90-180 degrees, the other half are more or less on heading.

Once again-Lightly loaded high performance canopy issues
jheadley replied to peek's topic in Safety and Training
Quote GP: Of course, after I wrote that I started thinking... Yes, I have noticed that the Sabre 2 is trimmer steeper, and probably some other canopies too. Quote PD's flight characteristics manual on the Sabre 2 says it has a flatter glide than the Sabre. -
I used to be a HUGE bond fan, but I just couldn't get into this one. It's just too different from all the other ones. Where's the super-villan trying to take over the world? Where's his laser beam satelite? Where is Q and the gadgets? I know it's campy but that's exactly what I expect going to see a bond movie. In the end, bond defeats the villan, and gets the girl, and everyone is happy. I HATE how every movie these days has to have 17 plot twists. So and so is good, but now he's bad, but wait he's actually good but he works for a guy who is bad who is actually not who you think he even is but then he gets double crossed by so and so and then so and so gets triple crossed... It's ok to have a straight forward plot! It's not like plot twists are even twists at all, they're so expected in movies that they're completely predictable. Bad Pre title sequence, bad title sequence (no dancing girls), a few crappy, ridiculous, way too long action scenes at the beginning, some boring stuff, World Series of Poker, cheesy love story, a crappy action scene, end.

How much of an offset is necessary for the 180 jump run? Are there any disadvantages to a downwind jump run? I guess your ground speed would be much higher so you couldn't dilly-dally as much in the door, but anything else?

I'm 21 and VERY rarely get carded, at beer stores, bars, restaurants, liquor stores... I did get carded trying to buy an R rated movie at wal-mart a few months ago.

Writing a lot about how you felt and what you were thinking as a student is also a good idea because it'll allow you to remember vividly what it was like to be a student, if you eventually become an instructor. That'll help you to relate to them more, and teach them better. A lot of people seem to have forgotten what it was like to be a student.

What is something you got suspended for in high school ?
jheadley replied to shortyj's topic in The Bonfire
I've never been suspended but there were a few times where I had to leave class, go home and change because i was out of dress code. (sneakers instead of dress shoes, 5 oclock shadow). I asked to just get detention later instead of leaving the classroom, but they made me leave. Great institution of learning. -
