  1. I'd rather celebrate this today http://www.steakandbjday.com/
  2. seeing a professional tree-climber at work was pretty incredible.
  3. could you describe what the no sew method is? I did once see an RSL ring that was sort of free-floating on the riser with a piece of webbing that went around the riser. I thought that was interesting. I assume this is master rigger work?
  4. A better question is, is it reasonably safe after a coach signoff for them to do a bit of fun RW with students who are not permitted to jump with ordinary jumpers. How many 30 jump students do you help keep in the sport each visit to the DZ? People with a calling for this who are willing to go through a coach course should be permitted to. I don't think jumpers who start threads with titles like "100 jump wonders" are the type who help inculcate new AFF grads (10 jump wonders), DSE's insight excepted. What I would really like to see coaches do more of is just jump with the new A license holders (paying his own slot). I hear of so many people who get their license and then quit the sport 50 jumps later, because nobody will jump with them, or they're to shy to ask someone to jump with them, and they get bored doing solos. This is something I think a 100 jump coach could do well.
  5. Ohhh.. pictures of me! Nice... Thanks, these are great pictures
  6. I've never like psycho packing much, it doesn't really fill out the d-bag evenly. The corners always seem soft and there's a bulge in the middle.
  7. I like the neptune. *shrug*
  8. I broke my neptune, and sent it off to be repaired, alti-2 sent it back quickly with free armor. You definitely need the armor. I really do like my neptune, but the batteries wear out pretty quickly. I go through 3 or 4 a year.
  9. Thanks, this is what I was getting at. I'd rather just not do a zoo-dive in the first place.
  10. To be honest when I was a packer, I would prefer to set the brakes, so I know it's actually done right. You'd be amazed at the fucked up ways some people stow their excess line.
  11. also the toggles stay with the container.
  12. Why is barrel rolling so necessary for freeflying but not flat flying?
  13. I found this thread from a year ago and thought it'd be worth bumping since the topic came up again.
  14. Denver The Last Dinosaur http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VkWVLA6d50
  15. Have there ever been any cases of the miniforce rings getting hung up or not releasing?
  16. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but coaches arent rated to train students. Quote I forgive you. US coaches can teach most of the FJC and Categories F, G, and H of the ISP. (Tracking, forward movement, fall rate control, docking, diving). They've finished AFF but are still students. Popsjumper, I agree with you 100%.
  17. I think it's mostly ok for people with 100 jumps to get a coach rating, as long as all of their training of students is closely supervised by instructors. That's the way it's supposed to be, but some coaches just get their rating and are just turned loose on students without any supervision. This is how I was (got my coach rating at 120 jumps), and I suffered from it. I kept wondering why all my students sucked so badly... because I didn't teach them well. I don't think I became a good coach until 2 years later, when I worked with a lot of instructors to improve my teaching method, which I still do at every opportunity. Every time I do any coach or AFF jump, I usually write more in my own logbook than my student's, critiquing my own performance, finding things for me to improve on. I'd rather have an eager, motivated 100 jump coach teach a student than some 500 jump wonder who just wants the rating for the money, or bragging rights.
  18. Really? I've never heard that. I've always assumed that the Cobalt was a high performance canopy meant only for experienced pilots. IMO it is. I've put a few jumps on a Cobalt 170 loaded at 1.2, which is the very bottom end of atair's wingloading recommendation chart, and I think it's way too agressive for a new jumper.
  19. Are there other, or all, containers that this is true for?
  20. I did 2 tandems before AFF. If I had done AFF first, it would have been a nightmare, I was completely overloaded on my first tandem.
  21. here's Dave DeWolf's method. http://www.paraloft.com/rt_replace_pc_kill_line.htm
  22. Your poll lacks options I like Willy Nelson (not THE Willy Nelson, but you know, his name is Willy Nelson. He was taken by the villagers when he was going 30 in a 25, well actually when he said "villagers", he really means just this one guy. He really didn't know him, well yea, he knew him, but it's not like, you know, they were buds or anything.)
  23. I do SHAGG a lot (Shoes, Helmet, Altimeter, Goggles, Gloves).
