  1. agree on Jav dbag design and main pin protection method... personally I jump a Mirage g4 for these reasons and it's very comfy with the articulated harness.... my old g4 has the lame split dbag they don't make anymore though since everyone hated it afaik I agree it's a personal decision too so a demo is mandatory before dropping that much cash IMO. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. Unless you're jumping on Mars or wearing oddly tinted sunglasses I don't think you can make a case that yellow or orange is hard to see from above. Even on FS bigway videos I can easily pick out my orange rig in a sea of people as tiny as it is relatively speaking. You are overthinking this and/or shopping for an opinion to justify your decision (whatever it is). Pick whatever you want as it's obvious that actual facts aren't going to sway your decision. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  3. If you want "high viz" then black shouldn't be in the mix, period. If you want some black in your canopy go for it but minimize it as much as possible. There's a distinct difference to you brain between "high visibility" and "contrast". Think about construction workers, crossing guards, warning signs, etc. What colors are those? Yellow, orange, neon variants, etc. This is because they grab your attention. All my canopies have been bright colors, most of them tangerine/neon orange since they stand out really well in all situations. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. they used to be more flexible but they went insane on the contract crap the last few years or so... total PITA now... same with the licensing NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. yeah, 2005 was the year they had the Carvair and Southern Cross DC3 flying, no jet NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. lol, Cisco isn't sending you equipment replacements without a contract... you can't even open a TAC case without a valid serial associated with a maint contract hardware replacement cycle is limited by the EOL notice so you can't keep obsolete gear on contract past it's hardware replacement EOL date CCIE 39206 here NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  7. a 3500xl is junk, throw it away just get an unmanaged switch like an old netgear from a junk pile somewhere NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  8. When you buy a used canopy for $300 you're rolling the dice, no two ways about it. You're taking someone's word on the condition, jump #s, how it was stored, packed, etc... just because you happened to get lucky on a nice deal doesn't mean everyone is going to have the same experience. New jumpers (like the OP) aren't going to be in the market for a tiny Stiletto so your whole example is apples and oranges. Stilettos are a dime a dozen because they've been in production for so long and fewer up-jumpers are interested in them now. No way you're going to find a solid beginner's canopy for $300 unless you get lucky, it's something really old, in need of repairs, or a scam. If you want to spend your canopy time under a Spinetto, Splatwing, Heatwave, Cobalt, Diablo, or any of the "exciting" canopies from the previous generation have at it. There's a lifetime supply of them in the classifieds. Just avoid a Nova if you find one. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. heavy, more cost, can it unbuckle under load (like an aircraft seat belt for instance), getting hit in the face by it, ability to loosen it under canopy, etc, etc.... a solution searching for a problem... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. yeah I think currency is heavily weighted in the equation... I'm at 29 and even if I dropped a size, it would still be 29. I've made lots of jumps in the last 6 mo. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  12. Not sure if trolling.... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  13. You can probably find the answer to #1 by searching. Risers and PC/d-bag are rig parts and generally not included. Some people offer risers for an extra fee. New canopies usually come with links but this is a cheap wear item so you should replace used ones unless they are cleared by a rigger as good even if they are included. Replace metal rapide links with new soft ones as well. Slider should always come with canopy. Risers (esp mini ones) and PCs are also wear items so replace as needed. Before they fail. ;) NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. I will never understand this logic. You have to use your main on basically 100% of jumps so why jump some ragged out/possibly out of trim "older" parachute? When I see people pack a $300 (if that) parachute into a $3000 rig I simply wonder, why? That's just preposterous. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  15. dont arch with your back... thrust pelvis forward btw you can drop down fast by going knees low with your knees together returning to a dearched flat position to scrub off speed as you approach the net NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  16. Ironically if you called my home dropzone they would just check the computer to verify currency. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. camouflage... I see a lot of purpose-made camo pattern jumpsuits, rigs, etc now... used to be the only time you'd see camo was on surplus gear, BDUs, etc. Back in the day there was more tie-dye and Hawaiian style patterns courtesy of Da Kine and Tony Suits. In fact, there was more color period. Diving on a 30ish way recently I found myself looking at a sea of shades of blue and grey/black. I blame competitive RW for the dark jumpsuits. I've only been around for a decade or so but there is definitely a different feel around DZs now. Less fun and games to be had for sure. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  18. try to find the old "Ghost Rider" videos... that guy was doing "speed runs" on the open highway long before GoPros and Youtube he did all kinds of stuff like get chased on purpose so he could film his escape and timed runs between cities at ludicrous speeds basically you'd need a helicopter to match NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  19. I had Lasik performed a couple years ago. Best money I ever spent. My procedure was a bit more expensive than what most people typically spend though but no halos, could see perfectly the same day, extremely short recovery period, and my quality of life is like a million times better than with contacts or glasses. http://www.dishler.com/ NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  20. This is probably among the wisest comments in this thread. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. Straw man argument. I didn't remotely say that so don't put words in my mouth kthx. I'd expect more from an attorney, really... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  22. A little drone with a remote camera would probably be a good way to search rather than trying to build some one-off expensive tracking system... plus you can spy on your neighbors with it and otherwise put it to good use the other 99.99999% of the time it's not needed. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
