I wouldn't call that launch "highly unusual", I have seen it done many times. Not saying it's good or bad though. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

wingovers are more aggressive than a carve, e.g. they will drag an end-cell in the water. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

that's funny... if anyone's ever watched the french 8 way team training, you'll see more toggle whipping low turns while spiralling down over the middle of the landing area than you ever thought possible. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

BSRs aren't laws, like HnS said, if you don't like what goes on, leave. In reality, most paid packers aren't riggers and aren't supervised. In reality, reserves get pencil-packed a lot. Personally, I always follow the rules on this one. I think you are overreacting, IMHO. I've seen plenty of violations too, but most are of the 31mph variety as kallend described. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Maybe they can just have another "class" for those that are drunk, stoned, or coked up... /joking Anyway, it does seem recently that more and more people are loading up with a lot of lead. I mean really, if you have like 700-900 jumps, do you really think w/l is really that critical? Plus I'd hate to have to chop with 20-40lbs of lead on. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

2 point 8-way for C license?
mattjw916 replied to Slowfaller's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
pffft... that's not freeflying... that's style, as in style and accuracy. Although does it specify that you have to start it from your belly? I could probably pull that sequence off from a headup position. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
Which Suunto looks better and has better visibility?
mattjw916 replied to Superman32's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have the dark faced one but rarely look at it in freefall, I use audibles for that mostly. It is awesome under canopy. It can be a little hard to read if the sun reflects off it at a wierd angle. If people are going to be grabbing your wrists (RW), the buttons can get pushed if you aren't careful and the mode can get changed which is annoying and potentially dangerous. I'd much rather use one of L&Bs new digital altis when they get released for freefall personally. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
For a different perspective, I'd try Skydive Dallas. Not everyone learns the same way and sometimes a "fresh" start can work wonders. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Jumping Restrictions near Denver
mattjw916 replied to DickMcMahon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's the last thing anyone would ever say about that DZ. I just don't see it. Frankly it amazes me how many people talk smack about that dropzone and all the really great people that frequent it who just want to make some jumps and have some fun. Incidents far worse than anything I have seen or heard of out there are occurring on the east coast yet everyone plays "rally 'round the troops" for them whilst casting stones at a relatively obscure DZ in a small town because it displays a modicum of individuality and a hint of that bandit jumping spirit that has long since been drown in a sea of tandems and the roar of wind tunnels most places. Maybe people pick on them since they are perceived as an easy target, who knows. Perhaps if some of these people that continually bad mouth this DZ showed up with a smile and case of beer, instead of a chip on their shoulder, their experience would be different. Having a turbine alternative to Mile Hi and a place to escape the 100+ tandems and students per day almost every weekend is good for CO skydivers. Having to wait 3 hours to get on a load and being one of four fun-jumpers on the plane quite frankly sucks. Hopefully that will change now that their Otter is online and people can start knocking out more than 2 ways on a consistant basis. Now, if we can only get people to stay after sunset... Each DZ in CO has something to offer, whether its a fast lift, a big pond, awesome parties, or really entertaining static line instruction. Variety is good, it keeps people from burning out. Instead of bitching, people should start jumping more... and not just for money either. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
Chances are that if they are using it for student gear, it is one (of the many) that are okay or have been modified since the gear gets used frequently. The packers of the student gear also are probably very familiar with it and know how to pack it properly. You could always ask them if you have more concerns. I'd move on to more modern gear once you start shopping for your own rig though. Just my opinion. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I have the MST3K DVD and the original unedited version of the movie "The Skydivers" is on the back of the "fun" one. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

If you still have trouble finding one, mine will likely be for sale soon since I will be coming into some extra money and will likely splurge and buy a Vigil. PM me later for details, its only 4 or 5 years old and is a Cypres 1. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I'm sure the management at NASA thought the engineers at Thiokol were just "ranting" and "paranoid", that is until the shuttle Challenger blew up. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Plenty of people with thousands of jumps agree with me. Ignore them, not me, at your own risk. The same logic applies to other canopies. The Nova, some old Raven reserves (esp when overloaded), unmodded Crossfire 1s (some of them). If you hear enough comments about them, that should raise a red flag. Blind faith in any of these companies based on reputation or word of mouth is link number one in the chain that leads to a really bad day. Some lessons don't take 10,000 jumps to learn. FWIW I'd have no problem jumping a modded Crossfire 1 or a modern R-Max reserve (made by the people who brought you the Raven). Even my Safire has an oversized slider and non-factory control line settings (some of the original Precision-built ones had a bad rep too). So obviously paranoia is not a factor. It has to do with making an informed decision. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I think the point is that people are hard headed. With some of the attitudes displayed here, it is no wonder juries can't convict people like OJ and Robert Blake. Yes, I have a PD Reserve, it IS a good canopy, but the Sabre is not. I have jumped a Stiletto, but I wouldn't buy one. I'd jump it just for fun though. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I've used numerous DVD burners and this is the best one I have used so far: http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=manufactory&item=27-140-008 Why would you want to burn DVD-R and DVD+R, just pick one... my Premier Pro created DVD+R discs seem to work just fine. Another way to do it is walk up the lines as usual and lay the canopy on the ground... walk back to the rig, stand between the lines facing the rig, grab the bottom of the rig and flip it toward you onto the reserve and then over onto the backpad again. Walk up the lines again and now you have a step through. One way you can check if for sure that you don't have one is walk up the lines, drop canopy on ground. Pick up tail at the label (center) and follow the edge to the control lines. Grab them all (one side at a time) in one hand and follow the lines to the cascade through the rear slider grommet and down to the ring and toggle. There should be no lines wrapped over or around them. Repeat on other side. While you do that, you might as well take the twists out of the control lines if they have any, it will help prevent tension knots. If that's not clear, ask someone to demonstrate. There are other line-checks that can be done, but I'm afraid I'd butcher the explanation and it'd take forever to type. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

This is what I know about them and what I have been told by people that have worked for RI, riggers, etc... The harness is the same as the Talon FS and is awesome. Easily as good as the Mirage or Jav Odyssey. I personally loved it and have about 50 jumps on 3 different Talon FSs. The Voodoo is a bit of a pain to pack due to its odd shape which doesn't last over time (comment attributed to a professional rigger/packer). Resale is not very good, but if you plan to keep it for a long time, who cares. Excellent freefly rig and I know several people in the 5000+ jump range that use them. I prefer Mirages, but Voodoo/Talon FS are a close second IMHO. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Whether pollster chooses to believe it or not, that person had a hard opening, was knocked unconscious, opening resulted in a brake fire, and spun in. Sabre was the canopy. People have been reporting problems with this canopy for years.
