Hm...Is the yellow patch placed outside the canopy instead of inside? Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

........................................................................ .... with a very carefully tuned double needle sewing machine - with a folder - to sew the binding tape. Hopefully he has also replaced a few dozen mud flaps before he touches your rig. so i'm guessing its a pretty technique intensive operation.... its a mirage G4 FWIW. i live in san diego and i'm trying to figure out who could do it locally, hence me trying to figure out what is required. Hmm... For changing the mud flaps on G4 you need only a single needle sewing machine and 15-20 mins. But I guess that depends of the DOM of the rig. For the early G4's the mud flaps are sewn under the binding and then you need a double needle machine For the newer ones the mud flaps are sewn on top of the binding and for replacing them you need a single needle only. Call Mirage and ask them is the best you can do Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Or...just another Skyhook fuckup. It's hard to believe that tandem main in streamer has less drag than the reserve PC. But that's just my thoughts "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Aerodyne Icon I5 (Perfect container for newbies)?
Deyan replied to bigway's topic in Gear and Rigging
You still can't have Optimum 160 as a reserve. Think about something else. You are from France,so you can call Basik Air Concept and ask them about their X-Fast reserve. Maybe they have a demo program. Or you can try "Speed 2000" from Paratec. Good luck "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
It happens, but not very often. If you aren't a high-speed swooper, there usually isn't even enough airspeed to extract the reserve chute from its deployment bag. Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lehGkRCFXY&feature=related As you can see,the airspeed is really low and the reserve is out of the free bag. blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Thanks for the info guys Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Is there some special reason why the new reserves (PDR,Optimum,Smart,Speed etc.) are without them? I mean , PD use them for the most main canopies, but not for the reserves. I would like to hear some opinions why not, because I really think that they are handy to use even for Pro Packing( I'm talking about pro packing reserves, not mains) And at the end.....PLEASE don't start the brand war again. Aerodyne Icon I5 (Perfect container for newbies)?
Deyan replied to bigway's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't know if I still can buy JVX (ZP & Sail hybrid),but I'm sure that I can't buy JVX ( low porosity & ZP hybrid) I got your point with the rig size example. And this may work until in your gear store come somebody with small to average body frame. Then Icon I5 will be way too big. Just think about something else You have a customer 160-165 cm and 45-55 kilos. In this case the overall length of the rig is important. I don't know how long is I5,but I think is about 19-20 inches. Can you see my point I'm talking from personal experience. It's really damn hard to find short rigs Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Aerodyne Icon I5 (Perfect container for newbies)?
Deyan replied to bigway's topic in Gear and Rigging
QuoteThe reason this works specifically with the Icon is because Aerodyne make their cnaopies fit their containers, so with the Aerodyne canopies packing a bit larger and their ZPX packing a bit smaller it works perfect for three downsizes, then throw in a Icarus or PD canopy to get the 4th downsize. Quote Playing with different fabrics and different types of canopies seems to work for any H&C system on the market I will give you an example with my rig (Mirage G4 MXS 1/2) 1...Pulse 135(tight) Pilot 132 ZPX( I don't know, but I think will fit and will be tight) 2...Sabre 2 120 (tight) 3...Sabre 2 107 (medium) 4...Crossfire 2 99(loose) 5...XAOS 27 88(medium) 6...JVX (hybrid) 69 (tight) So I think I will keep this rig for the next few thousand jumps. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Quote Just does not seem practical and really makes me ask, why even bother making the smaller sizes as a Icarus 129 reserve can not be jumped by anyone who weighs more than 65kgs naked. A 119 can not be jumped by even a midget. So why make them? Quote I don't know if I'm a midget, but I can jump Icarus reserve 119. My exit weight is 70 kg BTW. I don't think that any manufacturer should make reserves smaller than 120sq.ft. (projected) No small reserves,no fat stupid skyGods jumping them. How simple is that Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

This is an Icarus Reserve, right? If so, look at page 13 of the manual "According to the US FAA certification limits, it is forbidden to jump with this parachute with an exit weight exceeding 255 lbs (116kg)". blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Hehe, switching to Vector is at least one step backward "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Leave NO MORE THAN 50 cm!!! Longer "free" lines = bigger chance of horse shoe Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Question! How familiar is you rigger with packing Mirage G4? Show him this link. http://www.chutingstar.com/archives/00000126.html I'm packing about 10 Mirage G4 per year and this is probably 1/10 of what Mike Gruwell is packing. So he is the best source for this kind of info. I think that the key is making the "ears" as thick as possible, but will be better if you show some pics of the packjob. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
-
Or missing one I have seen miss-routed lines, velcro protector still on the free bag,but never thought that somebody can be so stupid The look of the packjob is awful as well Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Be really careful when you give an advice to someone based on what Para-gear or somebody else are saying. If you don't know from your personal experience by packing them is better to say that you don't know.Especially because you are a gear dealer. You don't want to be in a situation .."WTF My rigger said that there's no way this size reserve(recommended by you) to fit into the rig. This is just an advice, not an offense blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

M2 or M3.Depending on which size reserve you have. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Every soldier who get money for his service( don't forget that they are countries where you have to join the army even if you don't want) is more expendable than any civilian who die as a "collateral damage".Can you tell me how many soldiers lost their lives because of not using landmines to protect themselves ?And I will tell you the statistic for the civilians.About 3000 every year.Mostly in the third world countries, and 0 in USA. How many people have to die,so 1 soldier can stay alive???One,two....ten?!Or doesn't matter,as long as they are from the third world countries. Ofcourse you are for the landmines. There's no any single landmine that your son or daughter can step on the next time they are walking the dog in the forest. Just think about that. The world is not only USA and everybody else. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

That's easy to say from your perspective, sitting in your comfy chair in front of a computer in Florida. It's not so easy to say if you're a soldier patrolling the Korean DMZ, under threat of invasion at nearly any time. It's so easy for you because you don't have to deal with them, right? http://www.sasi.group.shef.ac.uk/worldmapper/posters/worldmapper_map290_ver5.pdf Just something to think about. And don't forget that the US soldiers are volunteers. They get money for the risk. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

The modern skydiving is more and more about the fashion. If somebody is waiting 1 year for a bigger Optimum,he will wait another year or two.Even though they are other good reserves on the market available NOW. They are just not build by PD "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

They are simply awesome Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
