  1. Hot??? probably not. but one of the best swoops I've had. This was taken from a video of me swooping the Russian River in northern California. a spectacular view!! The video: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=7737 Edited to add the picture
  2. I have seen that video before. I believe that was his last roll. There are some fundamental differences in the way we do the rolls. I believe he did his using toggle input for one... Ryan
  3. I actually do on the one I posted here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWWP4Mp9DHg I am not sure who reposted it on youtube.
  4. The only thing I have posted online right now is part of my end of year video for last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=756g1YJKZNc at 1:50 I do one on a high pull with someone and at 3:00 I do one near the ground but I look forward the whole time. I did not take a lot of inside video when i did it near the ground (thoses were mostly dedicated hop & pops) I am traveling for the next few weeks but when I get back I can look through my raw video and see what I have.
  5. I won't be in the reports for this maneuver... I don't currently perform it near the ground. The visuals are fantastic. Performing this on a high pull next to someone is cool because you do not loose altitude on them. And when this is done near the ground there is a point where you let up on all input except harness and you can look up and see nothing but ground above your canopy... It really is sweet.
  6. I am the jumper in that video. The manuever was done with rears and harnes only... not toggle. I trained a lot for that manuever and it was awesome to perform. Ryan
  7. I get out of plane. I pull cord so no go boom. me like. You can call this one a "flier" in your data if you wish. Wa wa waaaaaa
  8. Skydiving, No one looks down at me for buying a jump.
  9. I see your point and after re-reading the whole thread I think the way I read it was not the way the original poster meant it. I think the point of "scaring" a jumper out of downsizing is the wrong way of putting it. When people come to me for advice on canopy sizes there is a list of questions and talking points I cover. If I am unfamiliar with the jumper, one of these categories is current ability under their current canopy which contains the conversation about downwinders. A lot of the people I talk to have a large gap in performance knowledge/skill of their current canopy. Sometimes they have not yet thought about doing downwinders (and in general not flying their canopy to their full potential). The whole point of talking to the jumper is to make sure their eyes are open to the decision they are making including how much more they have to learn on their current canopy. That is what I was trying to express in my last post. I can see now how I was unclear. Blue Skies, Ryan
  10. We had mid 70's at Skydive Tecumseh. We got to jump too, 10 or 11 loads.
  11. Just my opinion here but learning to land downwind should be a fairly short process. 1. Get advice on how to slide in a landing 2. Practice in no wind days or into light winds until you’re consistent 3. Try it downwind in ~ 5 MPH winds 4. Go to town, landing downwind in 5 MPH winds is the same procedure for me as 15 MPH winds. (I am only considering rolled grass fields known to the jumper for the above) Downwind landings are nothing to fear. To the contrary I believe the knowledge of how to handle that type of situation is necessary to long term survival in this sport. (And they're fun! )
  12. Thank you for acknowledging the work and planning it took to get that video. I have done that maneuver multiple times on more than 300 jumps before doing it below 2000 feet. I mounted 2 other altimeters on my rig so I could try to get a better understanding of the altitude loss and flight path. Then there was the process of bringing it down to under 100 feet. On a side note I stopped doing the maneuver below 2000 ft again until I can finish it with more energy more consistently. ~Ryan
  13. Is it just me, or does this sound stupid? I took this as the suggestion of doing a downwind on a current canopy scary not the actual landing itself. example; Jumper A "I am thinking of downsizing." Jumper B "Have you done a down winder on your current canopy?" Jumper A "No, that’s too fast, I couldn't handle it." Jumper B "Then you are probably not ready for the next size down." Which I find to be a very effective conversation to gain clarity on skill level, so no I did not think it was stupid. (the above conversation is usually accompanied by more of the same on landing in rears, braked turns, accuracy landings, ect. ~Ryan
  14. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=7573 here is an updated attempt at a barrel Roll
  15. Sounds like you found a canopy that you greatly enjoy. I have over 400 jumps on my 90 velo and love it. The velo is a great canopy, have fun.
  16. Interesting question, here is my take: I love dirty down winders. I think you should be able to land your current canopy in light down wind conditions (~10mph) before you jump a more aggressive platform. I don't think going downwind on a canopy is a good way to judge how the next size down will fly. There will be the increase in ground speed however the glide ratio and reaction speed (twitchiness) of your current canopy will remain unchanged. Please don't get me wrong, landing your current canopy downwind is a great step in refining your flight skills and eventually downsizing but please don't think that if you can land your current canopy down wind you are ready for the next size down. Blue skies, Ryan
  17. If you need a place to stay I am bringing out the big tent. I know how wild it gets with your rowdy room mate.
  18. I'm a giver, you're a giver, we've got jello shots! Yea, can't wait.
  19. I couldn't let a little water training get in the way of Beach jumps now could I? After a few minutes we couldn't feel our extremities anyway.
  20. Tecumseh - No Place Like home Sebastian - Great People - nice view - And the Keys boogie...Yeah SDC - Good times Napoleon - Gettobillies!!! CSC - Good people Sky Knights - Great turbo 182 - rode it all day for the CPC Byron - Never jumped there but great people Skydive Oregon - Nice view - good people Skydive Hawaii - Did a jump with the wife for honeymoon Eloy - Great people - The new landing rules kept me away this year.
  21. Check out the first part of this video. The canopy used is a 111 FX with the XAOS mod. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5420
  22. My buddy and I were the last out the door aproxamately 11 minutes after the first group left. I have no idea if I knew where we were. I don't remember leaving the plane or the first 10000 feet of freefall. my memory picks up at about 11000 feet wondering why i am on my belly in a freefly dive. the first 15 seconds or so the video is of the sun slowly spinning. we finished the dive on our feet and broke off at the planned alt. (5500). we landed about 1/4 mile away from the Landing Zone.
  23. Thank you for that post. That is exactly what happened. I felt more drunk then I ever have. I should not have left the plane. The jump run was in excess of 10 minutes and the pilot was the one yelling go. Everyone I talked to on that jump said they should not have gotten out. That will be my last High alt. jump. I took this video. and I told people not to post it. I believe this conversation has happened before on these forums without the inflammatory video.
  24. I'd like to think that I'm a Farrah Fauwcet (sp) poster. But most of you are too young to remember that... The early days or the i am now a fucking drunk stage. Depends on if you catch me early in the day with my hair done and my teeth nice and white, or late in the day when I'm really drunk and just THINK my hair is done and my teeth are nice and white... her hair was never done it always look like she just woke up My Fave poster was the Kate Bush poster above my bed I like the "Quote all I can" Posters. Got to keep that thread going.
