270 in Patterns was: Double Fatality - Dublin,GA
mktoson replied to JohnMitchell's topic in Safety and Training
What I don't get is why the landing areas at Dublin weren't segregated prior to the fatalities. Dublin's landing area is huge. After the fatality, hp approaches were assigned an area to land and straight-in approaches were assigned another. With all the up roar in recent months about seperation, why wasn't this addressed prior to the incident? So far, this is the oldest I've ever been. -

What makes someone pick the place to make thier first jump?
mktoson replied to Fast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That first jump is all about location. It's your first jump, you don't know the difference between a Twin Otter or a Cessna, 8000ft or 13000ft. Vibe, what vibe? With an activity so foreign to you at that point, what are your expectations do you have of dz culture? You don't have any, you have no reference point or baseline of dz vibe. And if you continue on to do AFF you'll probably do it at the same dz you did the tandem because it's familiar at that point. You'll make friends during AFF and become anchored there as an experienced jumper. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been. -
I wonder if the floating laterals can be retrofitted. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

I think AADs are a requirement to jump at Skydive Orange. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

Yeah I think that's a piece of crap. If you're going to take pictures under canopy any camera will do. The resolution of your average digital cam will be better than the wrist cam. And you're right, you (that cam) is getting a hard time here. But that's because it sucks. People aren't just going to validate your thinking just because you want them to. Yeah, the property value of my lot went down when you and Keith moved next door......and that says a lot coming from a black guy! I miss BSA!!!! So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

Yeah, I know how that is. That's why I'm so glad Mike Braylark left Skydive Carolina. With him and I there we were 1 over the black quota. But with him gone I can claim the title of best black freeflyer in the state of South Carolina. I just leave out the part that I'm the only one. I've only jumped with 2 other black guys, my brother Leon and Mike. Both are bad ass flyers. I on the other hand, suck. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

For me, that guy was Dave Billings and Jason Snailham at Mile-High. I learned a ton jumping with them.

Did you have to repeat any AFF levels?
mktoson replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did fine up until level 6. JM says that I wasn't stable enough on exit so he made me repeat. I was completely shocked. I really thought it was BS. I asked for a different JM on the repeat dive and passed without a hitch. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been. -

If it's your first jumpsuit I wouldn't purchase one of the higher end suits. Stick with something simple and cheap. It doesn't have to be the cheapest but I wouldn't spend 600 on my first suit. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

I really like the big display but I have to change batteries every two weeks because of drainage.

When I ordered my Infinity in May I called to have the additional bridle protection added and they told me that it was standard. I don't know the date it became the norm. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

IIRC it is now standard on any VSE rig to have additional bridle protection. See pic. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.

Downsizing - am i the only one?
mktoson replied to RossDagley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteYou and I might be in an unique club... I only have 140ish jumps right now, and have no desire to downsize (much) either... No you're not in a unique club. I think that you're under the false impression that the majority of new jumpers are downsizing too quickly. I just don't see this as the case. When looked at new jumpers as a whole these 'XX jump wonders' don't make the majority. You may be getting this impression b/c the only ones we talk about are the few who downsize fast and end up femuring themselves. We don't talk about the majority of new canopy pilots that are more conservative and aren't involved in incidents. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been. -
Is that also the system that the prototype space shuttle is using to bring it back to earth? Very cool indeed. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.
