  1. Upon exit on CRW jumps, I got used to tossing my pilot chute back towards the door. Almost never would it go back in the airplane, the one time it did Chris Maladnov, the pilot, had a little chat with me & I stopped it. Prior to that jump I was on a two-way CRW jump over Raeford exiting from a King Air. My brother was buckled in next to the door as an observer. Do to low clouds, I exited the airplane at 4500 feet with pilot chute in hand & tossed it back towards the door, smiling at my brother who had 0 jumps at the time. I came to under 2000 feet without a clue where I was, what I was doing or why I was under canopy. My buddy saw me hanging in the harness, head down, hands hanging and heading away from the DZ. He noticed I was knocked out so he spiraled down to inform the DZ. At about 2K when I came to, I reached up, grabbed a toggle, did a 180 & headed back towards the airport, landing at the end of the runway. My teammates came out in the golf cart, picked me up & took me to the airplane. My head hurt & there were bright flashes out of the corner of my eye. The dent in the horizontal stabilizer went back about an inch & was the size of my head. Wearing a frap-hat I struck the tail of the airplane with the back of my head. The horizontal stabilizer had been bent back, needing to be completely replaced. I was not wearing a cypress. I am very fortunate that I was quick on the draw on this particular CRW jump. I did lots of competitive CRW in the early 90’s, stopped jumping for 9 years & have recently returned back to the sport. Back when I was doing CRW, wearing a cypress was taboo. It just wasn’t done. Everyone understood the risks & none of the serious competitors wore them. Returning to the sport after 9 years I was surprised to find that people are wearing them while doing CRW. Last weekend I refused to go on some CRW loads because of this. I decided to go back & find out more before being on CRW loads with people wearing them. I asked questions & read the Cypress users guide which does not cover anything about CRW & Cypress. I do understand very clearly the benefits of having a cypress. I wear one on all jumps with the exception of CRW jumps. I’m still weary of them on CRW loads but have decided not to scratch off loads because someone decides to wear one. Watching the group rubbing nylon was just too tempting. Whatever people decide to do, wear them or not, I’ll respect their choice & drive on. JP
  2. Here's a more clear video. http://www.ozreportradio.com/video/ scroll down to existenciel.org Download Video Spirals & click on the link to the right of it. I don't think paragliders are setup for cutaway, I'll ask around & find out why.
  3. Yup & there's nothing like jumping out of the C31 Fokker Troopship with it's 2 big doors & fast climb rate! Not guaranteed that it will be there but they usually bring it out along with an Otter. http://www.shanaberger.com/images/C-31_2.htm
  4. Twice! The first time for getting into a wrap under 2K, upset our rigger so he didn't want to re-pack my reserve. It was the worst possible time to be grounded because the rest of the team went on to jump the "Fuddy Duddy" B-17 in Geneseo, NY. They let me go for a ride & watch everyone else jump:( The second time was for doing a low hook turn & smacked in, yup it was one of those where I stood up & looked to see if anyone was watching....I started getting worried when I saw everyone looking in horror yet no-one said a word. Learned my lesson on both occasions.

  7. Ok..it get's boring after a while but I just killed 20 minutes. They are paragliders not skydivers. http://revoar.sites.uol.com.br/mataparaca.htm
  8. On a CRW jump, all 5 of us landed downtown Raeford in the Hardees parking lot & across the street. It's about 4 miles from the dropzone. We had plenty of people offer us rides back to the airport.
  9. Bosnia Boogie 2006....I'm game! Roundtrip flights to Sarajevo from the US; Seattle, San Francisco or LA - $828 - $908 Chicago - $695 Dallas - $738 New York - $590 Would make for a memorable vacation & possibly help out these jumpers. Jumps out of an MI-8 helicopter, Utva-66 and Utva-75 (I haven't logged those yet), bring in a twin otter, skyvan or porter & I think it's a boogie!
  10. This is making it's way around the office...I must have received it from 10 different co-workers today alone. Everyone's on the floor howling! Haven't seen it here yet. http://www.msn.americangreetings.com/view.pd?i=382219626&m=1652&rr=y&sou
  11. Hi Neles, I'm happy to donate US$89.00, the cost of my first jump course at the Ft. Campbell Sport Parachute Activity back in 1989. I hitch-hiked through Bosnia in 1996 & really enjoyed your country. The family that picked us up took very good care of us by giving us a place to stay in Mostar, feeding us & washing our clothing. I wish you & your skydiving club the best of luck & hope of some day possibly visiting your dropzone & making some jumps with you all. I'm always happy to help my fellow skydiving bretheren. Good luck with your fund-raising. Jose
  12. This could be it....the team was called Bad Wrap. The picture was taken sometime between 1992 - 1994. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the team photographer. -JP
  13. I'll be there Thursday & Sunday. Just registered.
  14. http://media.putfile.com/iCRW Here's an example from the Dual Square Deployment Testing done by the Knights in the early 90's. Looks like what you are describing at the beginning of the thread. I can't remember the size of the canopies but they were big & I weighed 160 at the time. This reserve trailed behind me for a long time, even through turns. It wouldn't open so I yanked the lines causing it to catch air. When the reserve finally opened they usually went into a 2-stack or side by side, which I landed. One of the ten jumps went into an unintentional downplane, I cutaway the main on that jump. -JP
  15. There he is.....Jose Malave circa 1988......putting out a student who would later become a GK team member (1989), CRW world record holder (DQ92) & CRW National Champion (1994). It's sad to know that the clubs that provided so much to the military are being shut down. The only thing that kept me sane at Ft. Campbell was knowing that on the weekends I'd be at Son DZ making as many jumps as possible. My Sgt Major even let me get out of extra duty on the weekends so that I wouldn't miss out on my training. Both Jose Malave & Harry Parrish were my instructors, along with Keith Yoakum. I bet the Knights won't have as many candidates to choose from in years to come, since the clubs provided so many of the candidates. Does anyone have any idea how many GK team members came from FCSPA? -JP
  16. DC3 Exit, 32 jumpers...... http://media.putfile.com/DC3_Exit_Exit_Exit
  17. See if your mate can land this! http://media.putfile.com/PilotChuteinTow
  18. Yup...it's deceiving due to that angle of the camera, he opened his reserve above 2000 ft. This jump occured at Raeford. The camera was located near manifest & was pointing back towards the trees/parking area. He ended up landing at the end of the runway. The video always seems to have the same reaction...."I think I wet my pants!"
  19. Thanks Wendy, Sure. Sounds great. Just let me know how to get them to you. I'm putting them in 2 to 3MB chunks. That seems to capture most of the wraps. Try these, they are better versions of those up ^ there, http://media.putfile.com/GKCRWrap01 http://media.putfile.com/GKCRWraps02 http://media.putfile.com/GKCRWrap03 http://media.putfile.com/GKCRWrapEloy
