  1. The movie is in Production and should be out next year. I will get to the book as soon as I can, I have about 25 in the que now. I love to read but work reading is really starting to stack up. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  2. Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder. Hatred is not in mine. Your other thoughts are respectable. Thanks. That part was for my reply to startostar's post, sorry for the confusion. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  3. Not to side track this too far. I have only been on a KC-135 3 times, but each time the crew had rigs. The last time was about 14 months ago. I think that issue is more of a Service Chief and how he funds his service. Plus thearticle you linked state cost as oneof the reasons, not THE reason. and it would appear the service was happy with the call any way. Each service spends 10's of thousands of dollars per recruit. The services all agree that thier Demo Teams get the most bang for the buck. The othere place they compete is CISM, where they consistantly win or place high enough to attrack others to come to the US to train. I guess you see it as an unwarranted expense and I see it as a good expense. But isn't that great about this country? We can have this difference of opinion, argue it and go have a beer later! 5. Your hatred for the Mil Team's must be deeply Personal. They work within the scope of PR, CR and Recuiting. I for one am glad to have been a part of two of the Teams and glad they still continue. Looking at the history of our sport we would not have some of the remarkable things we have now if it where not for our Mil Teams. And of course the Military does recognize the skill subset of Freefal Parachuting. To the OP, yep the "I" was based on THE Indy 500, I guess I should have relooked the e-mail you sent out. But you do see the double edged sword of your argument don't you? Saying USPA has gotten to big for its britches and should stay out of some affiars and then telling USPA to get bigger in its britches and do some thing about the GI Bill. To accomplish that end they would have to become the very thing so many here rant against, a large governement like enforcment authority. Don't get me wrong the rules we have should be followed as they are for safety, but I think we need no more rules than what we already have. Becomming the University Skydiving Authority would just add to the "woes" some see already. Skydiving is a great and fun sport, but not nearly large enough to garner the attention it would need for the DOD to recognize it as a "trade". Maybe the better way is to find a subset skill in skydiving that can be funded, much like Auto Racing is not recognized but Auto Mechanics skills are/where (if the wording is not fixed). Now, we need to identify the subset skill. I come up with engineering, drafting, design and all sorts of air space related topics. Or Get a University to put it in a program, it would not fund all the skills stuff but at least it would fund some. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  6. Nice insult. Remove my name from your "My Indy 500" wish list, if this forum is any indication of who I would work with, no thanks. So many people speak so highly of you and your single handedly ruining your reputation. FYI- Soldiers tried, the GI Bill doesn't recognize sport Parachuting as a vocation as there is no acredited University or Trade School established. 8. Yes it is the MIRP's. The spring is not "Captured" like on the old T-10 or our skydiving systems, as the lower speeds of some partial malfunctions with the military rounds are so slow that the heavy spring would not allow the pilot chute to inflate and creat lift, there was eve na lead shot bag in the mix to add momentum so the pilot chute would clear the canopies that where out. Which is why a bunch of the Old School Military jumpers are familuar with "Down and Away" Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

  10. 7. Instruction of foreign students [E] a. Foreign non-resident instructional rating holders appropriately and currently rated by their national aero club may train students from that nation in the U.S., provided the instruction is conducted in accordance with the USPA Basic Safety Requirements. I think it is clear the T-I is to work with students from thier country Look at what the BSRs and GM program say for foreign GM DZs - Here is a quote from the winter 2009 USPA Minutes: USPA is trying for domination of the global skydiving market. USPA is trying to get other nations to abide by US regulations stated in the FARs. Heck, even the FAA does not require that. It is a very strange situation for foreign GM DZs. They are required to make all licensed customers & instructors have a USPA membership. Apparently that is not happening. Non-USPA members, tandem rated by their home country, can come to the US and do tandem jumps at more places than a USPA member with a mfg tandem rating can. It is not a theory. OK bad choice of word, I chose it since earlier some one said "in theory". And one more quote from the SIM From common interpretation, the phrase 'training student skydivers' means teaching TLOs from the ISP and the phrase 'introducing newcomers to the sport' means carnival ride. The 'teaching' that goes into proper exit positions, EPs etc fall into the instruction stated in FAR 105.45. . Seems to be an outdated Glossery deffinition or opinion, my opinion is still, they are a Student, train them as such. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  11. Thanks Jan, Now what to do when you know a dz that is doing tandems at a non gm dz with USPA rated instructors. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing. They are following the rules (as far as ratings go). Maybe what is missing from this previous post is that the USPA Rated Instructor is not a USPA Tandem Instructor, but a Mfgr Rated Instructor and maybe USPA Coach, AFF, SL or IAD Instructor? If they are a USPA Member they are to be USPA Rated, regardless of location, by the BSR. The only way around this would be for the individual to not be a member of USPA at all, at a non-GM DZ doing Tandems. Although I am really not sure how one could do that now since the Mfgr's want a "D" (USA) or "Master" License from the NAC and the Coach or higher type rating for experience. I see no issue with the theory that if your not a current member you license is not current. It works this way in several other organizations, one for example WERA (Western Eastern Roadracing Association, motorcycles) if you do not renew, you don't have a license and can't race and your number gets reassigned. We all know we are to stay current and follow the BSR's when we take on the role of Instructor. We have it read to us and we read it and we aknowledge it in the Instructor Courses, it is a question on our written tests, it is on our annual renewal forms and if we accept appointments to S&TA it is in our Handbook. 19. I answered USA over State. It may have a bit to do with my 21 years of service and not really staying in a state for very long till now. So I could change my opinion later. I also think I would move if TN started to do things I really could not agree to or even accept as "OK" or just corrupt politics business as usuall. 20. When Dan mentioned pointing your toes he is starting from a horizantol sole of the foot position. The soles of your feet should be parallel to the ground and when you point your roes you should be able to move them about 2 or 3 inches and at that point all the "slack" is out of the booties. If the booties are so tight your toes are pulled down toward your shins or you can't even move them, have them double checked by a reputable RW jumper at your DZ and if they concur then have them adjusted. Same goes for if they are too loose. Have fun in the Beer Suit! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  21. I am buying as well. A well diversified portfolio, kind of fun really (sad it took the past to get it where it is now, for me to have fun with it though). I also bought a new car, Honda, figured the mileage was good (31+ city, 35+ highway) and the company looks to be around for a few more years. And now Dad, Mom and I are looking at more property. Maybe we can turn this around our selves and shorten this depresion, aye? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  22. Max, I was thinking that we could move along from blaming the POTUS for this one event when Louis owned up to it. I agree that "We the People" should keep a watchful eye on OUR government. The washing hands thing, IMO, was an attempt at calming any mass hesteria. One child (From mexico where he was infected at the time) died in the US from "Swine Flu" and several more are infected, but in treatment. In TN alone 700 people die annualy from the "normal every day" flu. I think the CDC should be concerned but I do not think we are in an epidemeic, yet. Maybe washing our hands after covering our mouths will help. Parents tell thier kids that every day (I hope!). I just think there are bigger things to talk about, like the economy dropping 6.1 percent again last quarter. Proposed Defense cuts will close more factories in regions already floundering and this after we poured billions into stupid stuff like the soon to file for bankruptcy auto makers. California raising fees and taxes to meet financial needs. TN thinking income taxes should be implemented to make financial gain for the state. Across the country SIN taxes are all being looked at to be raised and in some cases 400%. OH shit, I think I just joined Jack Lemon as a grumpy old man. 23. I had to laugh at the national and local radio morning show comics who had great fun with the fact the Fox didn't want to pre-empt American Idol (and supposedly killed in the ratings buy doing so). Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  24. But the Tandem Pair is not going to be able to avoid a premi from the Videoagraphers rig in that distance. The distance could be enough to make the impact fatal on contact alone. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
