  1. I would also like to mention, because it wasnt on the video. When Brian initially showed me the method he also pointed out that if you have a collapsible PC you CANT fold it using this method if it hasnt been cocked. Its just a back-up that has become my routine over the years. Its been said that even if your PC wasnt cocked it would/should still pull the pin, but... Again, its whatever makes you comfortable.
  2. First off, sorry about the premature that really sucks! Ive never had one but I understand they are quite violent. I had the cordura BOC on my first Wings (i bought used). My second Wings rig (custom) I went with spandex because that was the norm, both functioned properly, were adequately tight, and I no problems. However, I must say on my next rig I will go back to cordura, just seemed a little more durable. Maybe there was an error in the manufacturing of yours and the elastic isnt tight enough, wind on the hackey could cause it to osculate and it could work the PC out (talking to SRI could be helpful). A lot (not all) of the premature dep Ive seen (video) started with either the rig not having adequate bridle protection (which Wings does have) or the bridle wasnt securely routed within the protection, packing error. Wind catches the bridle and pulls the PC out. Not insinuating you made a mistake but it does happen sometimes. Then there are always the "freak" accidents... There are no guarantees. *my recent experience* I had just purchased new risers, my rig was already packed so I just opened things up but kept the main in the d-bag and slowly swapped the attachments over and repacked, Ive done this before with no problems. When I got to the DZ I was ready but my wife had to pack, while she was packing I figured what the heck Ill pull my canopy and repack "it cant hurt", my wife scoffed at my repacking assuming everything was rigged properly. Turns out I accidentally routed one brake line around the FRONT and rear risers and the other around the rear riser twice. Almost certain cutaway on my canopy, maybe worse if I had an accidental low break-off/deployment... I have no idea how this happened. Point is I was sure I had taken the time to route everything correctly, I was sure. Guess I was wrong. My wife and I both learned a lesson that day. Ultimately if you and your rigger feel spandex is a better option and you would feel more comfortable with it then it should be an easy fix. Years ago Brian Germain showed me how to fold and pack a PC that will prevent the PC "balling up" in the BOC, and cant be folded if the PC isnt cocked, a safeguard that totally makes sense to me and I always use. When I show it to someone who hasnt seen it they look at me like I have six heads. I guess its whatever youre comfortable with.
  3. Kimberly and I are ready!! Our plane comes in thur night ~10pm, just in case anyone wants to pour one out early... I was going to bring some fine CA wines in but I remembered were going to the deep south, Im sure Boones Farm from the 7/11 will do. With all this talk of poo cleaning maybe we should put Macy on a plane and really give you something to clean Brandy, we are really looking forward to seeing you, Lees family, and everyone else to celebrate Lees life.
  4. This is reason enough not to have one. But I guess if you like the bandwagon... Break out that NY Giants hat, put on your live strong bracelet, grab your Mr. Microphone and cruise. There is no denying the stats but the love of the American muscle car is a purely subjective relationship. Personally I need something a little different, not just a car that anyone with a credit score over 700 can own. I think the thing a lot of people dislike about the Vette is the idea that it is some how sexy, which is precisely why it is typically a mid life crisis car that is accompanied by a divorce and some hair plugs. But it is a nice car and if it makes you happy congratulations, and wear your seatbelt.
  5. troll!!! My next suit will be a deepseed!! I like the honesty!!
  6. It was great to see everyone again, meet some new people and share stories about Lee. It was a good day, only Lees presence would have made it better... The story Lees mum told about how Lee tricked her into 'nicking' beer from a store was perfect and a classic 'Lee' that I will retell to even people who have never met him. I can hear him now laughing as he drove away from the store telling his mum she just stole beer for them to drink that night... On another note: Pat (Lees mum) mentioned to me that she had never seen any of the pictures that were set-up on Lees memorial table. I thought due to Lee being so far from his parents they didnt have a lot of recent pictures of Lee doing what he did on a regular basis. I know Lee was always on the other side of the camera so there arent a lot out there but I thought it would be cool to get some pictures together, burn them to a disc, print some copies, attach a little note where it was, what was going on, who was in the picture... and ship it to his family in England. I am going to be sending a package in a couple of weeks with all of the prints from the memorial table, the video from the memorial, and the still pictures from that night. If anyone has anything to add to it please contact me, I just figured if we each added a couple of pics it would tell a nice story of what he had been up to for the past 10 years... I know my parents would appreciate it. I know there are some pics posted here but I was looking for the hi-res versions for printing.
  7. Lee dont be so hard on yourself, you come across as a prick in real life as well... Simply put, every time you take part in irresponsible behavior you risk experiencing the unknown consequences. Whether drinking and driving, sleeping with someone else's mate, violently attacking someone, or just fooling around at the DZ something bad can happen and you ARE responsible, it doesn't matter what you MEANT to happen. We all get angry and want to "get even" or "get justice" for an injustice that was done to us. But, as upright walking, large fore brain having, opposable thumb having mammals with the innate ability to reason we SHOULD work all the way through the scenario and decide if the behavior is worth the risk and consequences that WILL go along with it. I don't believe I know any of the parties involved personally but I'm sure Brian didn't mean to put Woody in the hospital and I'm sure when he is sitting in jail he will look back and say it wasn't worth it. But unfortunately whats done is done. I just hope Woody fully recovers and Brian recovers from the legal troubles he is about to experience, I also hope next time they both think about their actions before it gets to this point.
  8. Ya I think that at the loading area, so I jump, land, pack and then I'm back in the loading area saying the same thing again... My wife says she thinks I have ADD
  9. True, but I have found that the amount that it "uncocks" isn't enough to cause a mal its just enough to not show the color in the window... Mine is so worn out it seems just about every time I get a pin check people question whether it is in fact cocked. When I pack the PC using this method I know it has to be cocked or I wouldn't have been able to even fold it and get it in the pouch. Its not for everyone, people should do what theyre comfortable with. It has worked for both my wife and I for years now.
  10. Why risk it?? http://www.bigairsportz.com/art-pilotchute.php Using this method you cant pack it if it isn't cocked, or at least it would be obvious it isn't cocked...
  11. What are you talking about youre not bald yet Lee...
  12. Must be all of that remodeling you guys have done...
  13. Driving to The Farm every other weekend to play poker and post on dz.com while everyone else is jumping doesnt constitute going to a boogie. Lee, maybe you can tell the OP what you spend your money on when youre at a boogie...
  14. I dont see the sarcastic remark smiley face so Im not sure if youre serious. First off you dont "need" a golf cart, but Ive also had people tell me you dont "need" to skydive. I think we could have an entire thread of things to do with a golf cart at a boogie, my personal favorite, theyre always fun for a pick-up game of golf cart football.
  15. My first boogie I didnt "budget" for heli, balloon and golf cart rental if available. Before going I thought "I wont need that" but once there I was pissed I didnt have the extra cash set aside for it. I equate it to someone getting video on their tandem, after its all over they wish they had. And hell if your there and you dont want any spec aircraft jumps you can buy something shiny for yourself.
  16. Very entertaining, whos point are you trying to make?? If the Katana is a swoop canopy and the larger sizes are getting away from that, then they are by definition more forgiving (or more unstable, which we all agree is not the case). Besides, If you want to "feel" cool then you need to say you jump a velocity, excuse me I mean Velo (cool guy speak) Im no expert but I would think the larger sizes are for larger jumpers with the experience level that is acceptable to jump said wing within the manufacturers w/l range. Whether they swoop or not is irrelevant...
  17. Lee dont lie that trailer is loaded with stuff you took after Brandy kicked you out...
  18. Pardon, I get a little target fixated sometimes... But I guess ultimately my question is, why is it acceptable to separate landing areas or forbid hp in the main landing area on a bigway but not when it is the same 30 jumpers in separate groups. Why wouldnt it be acceptable to apply that same rule to all times in a busy landing zone? I dont mean any sarcasm it is a genuine question, whats the hang-up? It almost seems like the opposite would be true, if it were a bigway were everyone was dirt diving together you COULD organize the landing order whereas 4 or 5 separate mixed (canopy size) groups would be much more difficult to "organize" the landing order.
  19. We dont blame the gun, but because history has taught us we cant always trust people to make good decisions, in most states you cant carry your gun with you at all times. The gun is not outlawed, youre just only allowed to wield it in a controlled environment. In this analogy the gun is the most identifiable and easily fixable item. I say you can use your 270 just use it in a designated area. I dont begrudge you your gun or freedom to shoot it, just dont waive it around in the streets. We all have lapses in judgment, were human, I just dont want you to have your hand on the trigger with me in front of the barrel when it happens. Steve not necessarily directed towards you, just towards the idea that, with one landing area, we can organize the landing pattern in the loading area. Or organize on the fly in the air with everyone recognizing what other people are doing. Theyre are, and will always be young canopy pilots who barely understand regular canopy flight much less all of the intricacies of hp canopy flight. It just isnt realistic to expect all new jumpers or experienced jumpers who dont swoop, to understand hp canopy flight and what your doing/going to do. Hell most hp pilots will admit it took them 1000+ jumps (swooping not total jumps) for them to truly understand whats going on, how can you expect some new jumper to understand your setting up for a 270, which direction you will be going, what your entrance point will be, how fast you will be going, etc. all the while trying to set-up their own landing. Stacking and organizing a landing pattern with all hp is a great idea but to try an apply that to a standard landing pattern just doesnt seem realistic to me.
  20. Please explain to me how this would even remotely apply to say the most recent canopy collision, where someone with more experience than even you hooked into a crowded LZ and killed someone? Seriously, lay out the scenario on that fateful day in Dublin. The bigway, the camera flyers, a solo, some small canopies, some large canopies... What would the order be. A dry run, using your theory, that would have saved a life. Please explain it to me. Because its obvious at least in that scenario, in all probability no hp landings in the main LZ would have saved (most likely) a life, Bobs life. You see Ray, to most of us this is tangible, something a DZO can do to actively make a difference. Ray Im not here to argue with you, frankly I don't care, personally most of the time unless the main landing area is empty I land in the student area and ride in the truck and this applies to Perris and Deland (two DZ's Ive jumped at in the last year) You see I understand your theory it just doesnt apply to all scenarios, whereas no hp landings in the main area does.
  21. She has probably been stalking you for a while and is reading this right now... Sleep well
  22. Huh?? My wife is a ER/ICU nurse and Im XR/CT/MR, we travel together and havent seen that saturation you speak of, we go werever we want, Denver/Boulder last and in CA right now and have a house in FL. There are no CNA's in ICU or in the ER, in the ER theyre usually medics and they arent about to wipe ass FOR you, theyll do it WITH you. Oh yeah and Ive always made more than my wife. Funny she says the same thing about radiology as you say about nursing... When we stop traveling she wants to go into Nurse Anesthesia, Ill quit working and jump more... Nuc Med def saturated. US too much call. Rad Therapy is smoking right now and Dosemitry is on its way. But its like any job its what you make it, and the grass is always greener on the other side. I also do Apps. for Siemens Medical (independant contractor) on the side and always thought it would be cool to travel and have an expense account. Tonight I ate dinner alone and right now Im sitting alone in the lobby of my hotel in Phoenix AZ typing this, its 102 degrees outside (at night) it aint so green on the other side. I just want to retire Anyways Nuc Med techs are a little funny, too much time locked up without any social interaction, as demonstrated by the way you demeaned the OP about their job and how much money you make. Im sure you didnt mean to, you just cant help youself.
  23. Dude I lived IN Boulder and you're high... It does get cold during the winter (6 months out of the year) and when it snows Boulder is NOT immune, that is why they close 92 and 36, because of snow and ice NOT because it is too sunny. The whole time I was there all I heard is how warm 40 degrees is, then I would ask them "where are you from" they would say "the mid-west". Now there ARE a lot of "warm" days compared to the mid-west but most of the time if its winter and the sun is out it is still 40 or less degrees outside. I will tell you after winter this last year in Boulder I was mind washed, it was soo cold for soo long that 40 degrees DID seem warm. (oh yeah everyone told me it hasn't been like this for 40 years...) Boulder has its positives I did some rock climbing, snowboarding, and hiking and there are countless other things to do, but take it for what its worth, it isn't a utopia its just another place to live. Oh yeah, by the way, when its 40 degrees on the ground guess what the temp is at altitude? Fucking cold below 0
  24. Im putting in a request with the state that you swing through Palm Coast and make sure our yard is cleaned up, since were out of town... thanks for the help
