After an 8 round meet recently the French 8 way team posted a 20.8, the French are obivously going to be our biggest competitors in the 8 way event this year. I looked back at the world cup scores from 2005 and Airspeed's 8 round average was a 21, but this was before Dennis and Neal left the team, both World meet vets with tons of experience(not to take anything away from Thomas and Eric who filled their slots). We've definitely got our work cut out for us this year at the world meet, the French team has been together for I believe three years without any change in their lineup, and talking to some ofthe AS crew they're expecting the winning average this year to be above 21, IT'S GOING TO BE CHAOS!!!! I know that sometimes when you really start crankin out points remembering the dive is the first thing in your mind, not thinking about arching harder so the fall rate tends to naturally slow down as you get focused more and more on the dive, so who knows maybe they do average around that at the bottom end of the dives, like I said, I'm far from being an expert at this game, but I have tried doing the vertical on a 17 with a slow fall rate, AND IT SUX!! fast be good! jus a add a little something to what i posted, i've never claimed to be an expert at this game by any means, but while Colorado was frozen over this winter I hung up my rig and used my money to travel down to eloy every month and play in the tunnel with the AS crew, when I did a some 3 on 1 with em we had that air really crankin in there and all the moves just felt so much better than when I fall with slower people. I've also picked their brains for knowledge as much as humanly possible without doing the vulcan mind meld, and i'll bet if you asked they will all agree that there is no such thing as too fast when it comes to fall rate. GQ has learned to fall fast in order to get to the bevy of women waiting for him on the ground....lucky bastard. Quote finally someone who understands what it's like to be me To answer the question asked by Kallend though, when I was doing those jumps that were hitting those kinds of speeds, it's not like I was intentionally trying to, my buddy and I did about 100 two ways together last summer and everytime we jumped the fall rate just picked up. The amount of speed and power we could move with at that speed, especially considering both of us had less than 200 jumps was impressive. As for four ways, I'm notorious for getting that fall rate cranked up, and a lot of the people I jump with can keep up, being in Colorado obviously helps as well, but even when I'm in the tunnel down in Eloy with Airspeed it feels like i'm punching it out just as much as any of my two ways back home. Kirk Verner will tell you himself he is a fall rate nazi, he only knows one speed and that's fast, and the majority of my coaching is from him so I've picked up the same traits. Well go figure, the Army's files are out of date becuase he is currently listed as falling under the Knights. but as we all know SF command snagged him up the second the round 11 score for nationals was posted. I'll call around to some of my buddies and maybe figure out what group he's in. looking at some of the compeitions in the last year our female teams here in the US have been pushin out scores around the 15-16 point avg., looks like our girls need to pick up the pace a little. tough competition rox disclaimer on that statement though, i couldn't find any female scores from teh US any more recent than 2005 nats, i'm sure they've gone up a few points since then. I decided to tuck my elbows in and put my legs closer together, i was amazed at the differance. On my first attempt i was 120 through the first half of the jump and 130mph through the second (after correcting what i felt needed correcting. I even managed 142 at some point which i was really happy about. Quote as you gain experience your fall rate is naturally going to increase, right now your body position is very large to help you stay stable, as you get better your position will tighten up and you'll naturally pick it up. i had probably around a 120 average when i started and now when i do four way i push 145+ my two way drill dives are getting close to 170, on my belly. that's good that you're focusing on improving your fall rate control but that's something that will come with experience, just give it time, and keep on jumpin!
