  7. Agreed. I personally have always been a "tom-boy"..the 'monkey' who was up in the tree refusing to come down (except for the few times I fell out lol), fishing and hunting with my dad..it just goes on and on...my other two sisters were always the "in doors type" wanting me to play 'barbie' with them . They look at what I do now and think I'm crazy..but it's been with me since I was really young...and it's somethign I can't necessarily make go away. I'm not coping-out on base by any means, so please don't think that by my posts. You will see me at an exit point sooner than you think. *Edited to add: Abbie, you crack me up dude! You obviously know exactly where a woman's place is! Now get in tha kitchen and make me some pie!
  8. I'll probably get hell for saying this, but I discussed this with a base jumping friend of mine a while back. One thing mentioned that I heavily agreed upon was the role the canopy plays when base jumping. From what I've seen and *IMO*, the male gender has a better understanding of landing and flying them from an earlier start even in skydiving. I know a lot of female jumpers who have had problems standing up a single landing until over 200 jumps (Yes, I know that is not the case for all). Also, I see more girls/women using the canopy as just a means to get to the ground instead of really attempting to learn its characterists moreso than men. Yes, I know this is in relation to skydiving, but I personally see it linked for this reason. I personally am not base jumping anymore, for the time being, due largely to the fact that I feel I could use a lot more canopy knowledge and training. Now, my disclaimer: In no way am I intending to make any sort of anti/female - sexist statement with this post, and I'm sorry if any of you take it that way.
  9. Ditto!! I had a great time, thank's go out to Todd, Kathy, and the Aggieland staff. Can't wait until next year!
  10. not that it really matters to me cause i'm not there yet..but where is the designated swooping area?

  13. I personally think you read WAY too much into everything and totally ran with it on your own. This has nothing to do with not wanting the citizens of NO in Houston. It has to do with the respect, or lack of, that many have shown. My mom is currently in the middle of making 'baggies' of goods with tooth paste, a tooth brush, 'female items', qtips, floss, etc etc etc with things she went out and purchased with her OWN money to send to a church that is now housing refugees. I have done similar already. This has NOTHING to do with not wanting them here, but it does have to do with the safety of Houstonians being at risk because of the behavior of some. (Not to mention other cities that are dealing with the same issues - Do what you can to stay safe, Brad). We are helping and doing all we can. Now...go play your lets 'chunk racist remarks game somewhere else, cause no one here is playing along. *Edited for spelling
  14. Thank you. You know, in all honesty I use to consider myself one of those "gun-control" type people...times can definately change a persons opinion. I'm actually thinking that if things don't improve or get worse..I'll be getting my concealed hand-gun license soon.
  15. They were told only those who were in the dome in LA would be allowed into the Astrodome, it was a transport from one place to another...not a "Go to Houston and get a place to stay." Those who go to the dome there in time, are still being provided shelter at the Astrodome. Those who just drove themselves here hoping for a place to stay, had no where to stay in NO either. Understandable...but what changes in lifestyle and safety are we, as Houstonians, compromising for ourselves now that we have reached out a helping hand.
  16. They have to have the bands on to get back in. I'm sure they would be able to tell if they were taken off because they would be broken and either taped back on or gum stuck to them..who knows. It's just an idea I thought about that might help to get some kind of order back into this city. Definately. and thank you.
  17. First hand encounters of what I'm talking about. Be careful Brad.
  18. I don't care what color they are. I am not a racist person, just in case you got the wrong idea. This has nothing to do with color, but more so behavior. True...I just know people have been throwing the "there are women and children" comment up. Yes..MEN will die as well.
  19. You brought up some very good points. Yeah, we can invade other countries, and yes...we can assist to help them..but here on our homeland, in case of a disaster as this..are we really that great and powerful? What comes to my mind, is maybe they would be able to get these people out faster and more efficiently if half of our troops weren't over seas trying to create democracy. How can the US be expected to save everyone with the blink of an eye? It takes time..it takes men. Them hounding is not going to make this go any faster, and no..we will not be able to save them all. Thats a known fact. People are going to die. Children will die. Elderly will die. Women will die. We are human and should understand that. This is a huge disaster, and the US cannot be held accountable for every soul. "Survival of the fitest". You cannot rely on others to save you at all times. Those who get out alive will probably be the ones who are the healthiest. The sick will die before the US can get them all out, the young cannot go as long without certain necessities. Nothing else can be done though..at this time..it is the survival of the fittest. That's what I meant.
  20. Good points. I hope that the government actually puts forth some kind of effort to create a plan. This is unreal to see the US affected so bad by just one city getting flooded. (Ex: lack of gasoline starting to surface throughout the US) Not to mention, where would the US put all of the residents if this would have happened to NYC or another major city. *Edited to add: Agreed. But you know how society is...*including myself - hello..I did make this post * If the majority are causing more harm than good, or even if 500 out of the 10s of thousands transported here are causing trouble, then the view on those non-locals will not be the best in time. This post was in more reference to those who did not get into the Astrodome now wondering our streets, breaking into cars, raping women, and all out just causing problems. I know there are those that are minding their own business trying to decide how to now start rebuilding their lives....and that's what Houston opened it's doors for. BUT, along with it comes the bad...and from what I'm seeing it is only going to get worse.
  21. I have. And yes, it is very saddening. I am not heartless. What is getting to me is that Houston is trying to help, and all it seems we are getting in return is trouble. I personally have already donated money, clothing, food, and blankets..not to mention a recent call to the Red Cross to volunteer my time if needed. I know they are upset and confused with everything being taken away, I could not imagine the feeling! BUT, if another town is going to take you in, feed you, clothe you, give you a place to stay..the LEAST you could do is be considerate and respectable. Instead of causing them nothing more but added crime. Just try to see this: If you had these irate refugees coming into your town, you would be scared as well. The longer they are stuck in NO, the more upset they are becoming, and when they get here...do you think that is automatically going to go away? NO. I just personally think that this is just the start of things to come, and that you will see a lot more violence erupt in Houston being broght by the anger felt by these people.
