That's the problem with these here internets. Humor doesn't always translate. Whether you were joking or not, your response was pretty funny. Put me in my place and made me laugh. You old farts sure are cute when you get ornery. Maybe you missed the smiley. I thought it was over the top enough to be obvious I was being facetious. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

Do you have to make it so obvious you're a whuffo? No one is buying it! I was with you until you gave the address... it just smacks of effort. Time in sport: 42 years! Yeah right! Go make a tandem, ya loser. HAHA, I have yet to see a clean room in Yuma where they prep that thing. Yeah, ok, I assumed. My sister in law worked with NASA satellites a few years ago and it was all cleanroom work. Of course, those are actually going into space, instead of becoming desert pancake. So seriously -- do they just rig the thing in some hanger? I imagine it's on some military base at least. Damn that's cool. Do you need some high-level clearance for that, or can you just tour the NASA cleanrooms and see what they're up to? We're paying for it... it seems only fair that we know where our money is going. being interviewed, need help
Dougiefresh replied to Dougiefresh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm being interviewed by the local paper for an article on the upcoming Madcity Leapfest at SDC. There's one question I'm struggling with. Any commentary and suggestions are welcome. I'm trying to be careful they don't turn my meaning around and make skydiving look bad. The question and my response: Q:" Some people criticize skydiving for being "reckless," how would you respond to that idea?" A: Nothing could be further from the truth. Decades of research have gone into making the gear as reliable and safe as possible, with new improvements and innovations coming out all the time. Every dropzone that is approved by the United States Parachute Association (USPA), skydiving's governing body, is required to have a Safety and Training Administrator (S&TA) to monitor training procedures and enforce safety rules. The FAA is closely involved with our sport, and keeps a close eye on our activities. Individuals might have reckless attitudes, but it's incorrect to characterize the entire sport that way. Any thoughts? Thanks. joke study on parachute use

I'm going to Philadelphia for the weekend. Can anyone suggest some fun stuff to do? I'm already planning on the historical tours, liberty bell, etc, but beyond that I have no idea what's available. I've checked the tourism websites, but if anyone has some pointers I'd appreciate it. can't post a pic to a classified

I figured it out. I was using parentheses in my filename, and as soon as I removed those it worked. I don't know if this applies to all special characters or not. can't post a pic to a classified
Dougiefresh replied to Dougiefresh's topic in Error and Bug Reports
When I try to modify my ad by posting a pic, there's an error message (internal server configuration). The icon for an attached picture is next to my ad, but there is clearly not a photo attached. Where the thumbnail should be, it just has the title of my ad, with the link as "http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/Unknown%20Tag:%20'Image_largest_path'". I've tried making my image filename one word, but that doesn't help. I know the filesize is not too large. Anybody know what's going on? $2.95/gal for diesel in Madison, WI. I just bought a Jetta TDI, which not only gets 45 mpg on diesel, but also can burn biodiesel. No more money to the terrorists, and I'm paying a hell of a lot less for fuel. I encourage all of you to check out TDI technology. Try here: www.tdiclub.com. You won't regret it -- these are great cars, good for the environment, and not as hard on the wallet as you might think. PM me for details. The problem with WVO is that it congeals at a relatively high temperature. That's why cars that run on WVO need heaters under their wvo tanks. I think they probably would run on biodiesel -- perhaps that's what you were thinking. The biodiesel would still need some winterizing for the colder temps at altitude, though. A little regular diesel would most likely keep the viscosity where you need it, but don't quote me on that. All my research has been into biodiesel for cars, not planes. This is not a liberal vs. conservative battle -- this is a battle for all our rights. I can't believe you people would sacrifice your constitutional rights so easily. Have you noticed that you are no longer neccesarily protected by habeus corpus? If you are labelled a "enemy combatant having supported hostilities", you have no access to a lawyer or ability to petition your grievances. That definition of enemy combatant is way too broad. What counts as hostilities? We've stepped onto a slippery slope. If there were an attack on the second amendment, you'd be screaming bloody murder. There have already been attacks on the first (warrantless wiretaps) and sixth (congressional vote of Sept 29 2006). It's clear that this administration and congress don't value the Constitution. Do you? Congress isn't fighting to protect the basic right afforded all Americans. They are rubber-stamping whatever will win them votes. What is needed is more than waiting around for an election. We can't allow the "war on terror" to usurp the ideas that make this country great. The damage this bunch can do in the two years remaining makes me shudder. I'm not going to sit around and wait for my rights to be eroded any further. I've never been politically active. I always thought the pendulum would swing the other way eventually. But the unadulterated power grab and erosion of rights has me scared. Scared enough to reconsider my stance on gun ownership, just so I'm not a hypocrite. www.worldcantwait.com Do something Oct. 5. I, for one, do not support the fascist direction the current administration is taking our country. We need a critical mass of Americans to stand up and say, "This is not American. This is not right. These people do not represent the United States."
