  1. I am having issues with the bobbin/hook case moving around too much. The needle is hitting it. I had someone fix it and now its doing it again... it all started when i removed the bobbin case to switch bobbins... there is something going on with the bobbin case hook area alignment that I am not understanding Thanks- Ian Also, How high can you get the foot to clear? I was playing around there, but I want it to go higher:) Anyone who has modified a Pfaff 238 for high lift foot, please enlighten me. It seems I need to put a longer bar on there to get it any more clearance... Thanks- I am trying to get this stuff figured out. One day ;)
  2. Need to get a tool for installing snaps. I don't know shit about snaps, so what do I need to know? Standard types, sizes used? Best tools. I need to repair some snap toggles. I need to make some snap cuffs and pockets for jumpsuits. I am needing to invest in a proper snap setup... Looking for heavy duty, no BS tools. I only want to buy it once, but don't need fancy. Thanks- Ian
  3. Anyone have the Singer 132 K6 Manual. I found parts manual, but not operators manual. Also looking for the Juki LH-515. Thanks
  4. thank you for the replies. Any links to the binders your specifically referring to? Links to ones you are using? I was under the impression they were all custom built, but we all work on quite similar materials/thickness, don't we? Any linkage to reccomended folders would be great. Thanks- Machines are arriving tomorrow. That may be the only good thing about being a grown up, any day can be Christmas ;)
  5. I was thinking they were able to handle a small range of thickness. I will be making containers with 1000/500d cordura and 420parapsck. Not totally sure what thickness MDS or foam. Some told me hey had one for litter stuff like PC, d bag, and another for container flaps with plastic. I mean, what about middle range stuff like keypads and foam? I dunno, but I need to get something to practice with, and I don't want to get something I will never use or won't work for the final application... There is not a stock binder that people use for A certain application, like use the 1/8" binder for leg lags and the 1.4 gap for flaps with stiffeners. Just trying to get an idea of how to acquire the correct tool for the job here :)
  6. Looking at Atlanta Attachments catalog, and not sure which right angle binder is the one everyone uses for the container work. http://www.atlatt.com/apparel/EQUIPMNT/folders/binding.html Also, which binder is recommended for lighter work? Straight binder... Any insight into this area is appreciated. Thanks Ian
  7. let me know if you figure out the needle up/down timing hack on that motor
  8. Machines are going to be delivered on Tuesday! I am glad I went with the Pfaff 238. thanks everyone!
  9. Sweet. What about the Pfaff 238? anyone use it for this purpose?
  10. I can get a 217, but the shipping they guy quoted me is outrageous. Are you saying the Bernina lays down a nicer straight stitch while still remaining functional as a zigzag machine. I need a machine that does both. I don't have the space to get a proper drop feed straight stitch and a ZZ...
  11. There is a 20u73 by reliable also, which is the same. I guess I was wondering which of those was the most robust. All of the. Are the same, from the same factory, eh
  12. Which machine would you get of the two. I am looking at brand new machines. I don't have space for a separate zigzag and straight stitch at the moment. i can get them for around 650 with table and servo motor, so i am thinking it might be worth it...
  13. Thickest thing I think I would do is joining the flaps to the container, or the flap/stiffener combo thickness. Will eventually be building non TSO single parachute systems. (Once I get way more skill ;)) that's' the 40/1000 mds for the container stiffener and a layer of cordura, then parapack inside... Hmmmm... So I am thinking to send 2 layers 1000d cordura with 3/4" type III and the 1/16" MDS. What else?
  14. Trying to get the right TN attachments type 3 3/4" right angle folder for binding work on containers. Which one is this? Anyone using TN? He machine dealer has asked for sample materials to be sure the folder is working while he has it in the shop. What would u send him? Thanks again. Ian
  15. Ya. I got the servo motors with the small pulley. I was able to get them for the same price cause I just got two machines refurbished from same dealer. I can't wait till they get here. Thanks everyone for the opinions and input.
  16. To recap: Either motor- get the reducing assembly or small pulley This lowers speed and increased torque Servo- make sure to get adjustable motor equiv to 3/4 hp clutch Anything else? Thanks
  17. I am able to get either motor for the same price. The issue is are they easier to control and adjust. Do they both have same, similar power? I like the reduced power consumption, vibration idea as long as they have same punching power. Seems like a good idea to be able to dial speed up,or down depending on the project. I am not ultra experienced with industrial machines, and I know the clutch motors can be hard for me to control well. I also know I can get used to it. I dunno what I am eventually gonna do. Hmmmm... Found some refurbished heads, with new motors going on...
  18. About to pull trigger on double needle and harness. Clutch motors? Servo for slow speed and control? What r you guys using to power your machines. I am thinking servo motors, but want everyone's feedback. Thanks
  19. Looking for some used machines. Bar tacker Double needle for binding Any other machines would be considered, but are not as necessary.
  20. I have been reading thru machine threads all day, but I'd like to ask a few questions. I have an old sears kenmore zigzag machine (heavy metal one) a bernina virtuosa 160, and a Elna SU. I am a senior rigger, and I want to get my master rigging ticket. I am wondering what machines I should get to expand on this selection. What would the best uses of these machines be, and what should I get next. I am getting more and more repair work, and am wanting to get into manufacturing in the future. I will be able to work with some of our local manufacturers here in zHills area, but I want to learn more about what machine is the best for what task... What machine should one get first? Why? I am getting stuff from linesets to container binding repairs... Also nterested in sewing covers for boats (sunbrella) ect so I am thinking I will need something that will pull large thread eventually. I have a lot of research and learning to do, as you can tell for these questions. Any advice is appreciated. Point me in the right direction. Why the 20u? Bernina 270? Singer 30-15? Should I really invest in a serious bar tacker? I think I could get at least a few DZs worth of linesets... The Expensive juki is he way to go there? Anyone know anyone who is selling any machines, or a loft full of machines ;) Thanks
  21. What's up with this machine? There is one in a thrift shop on a table and filled with attachments ect for $250. What could I use this for? How much punch would she have? E thread? Anyone with experience with this machine let me know Thanks Ian Trying to get some machines together.
  22. Give me a dollar. It would be cool to use mass marketing to start a business. Share it on social media for me. For no reason other than your .50$ could equal me owing a sweet offshore dive boat. That is all. Please click thru and check it. Sharing it is free :) http://www.gofundme.com/internetmagicboat Work your magic internet.
  23. What about Velcro to tuck-tab conversions that were occurring in years past? Were these modifications violating the TSO of the container?
