  1. I saw this the other day on FARK.com, and fell out of my chair laughing.... It's got a little to do with skydiving and more to do with photoshop. The further you scroll down, the funnier it gets... I've got no html skills so I dont know how to make it clicky: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=910016 enjoy
  2. I know i'm breaking the rules, but in the past 5 years, I've read many books. There are two very different books that stand high above the rest: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire. An incredible book that tells her side of the story... and Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden. A beautiful story about a girl sold into womanhood. This one made me want to write an opera on the story (don't laugh, I'm a composer), but alas, I'm no good at writing poetry and have no libretto. If you like literary fiction, check these books out.
  3. I have a factory tapedeck/radio/cd player. The funny thing is the CD player plays fine, but the eject button doesn't work....so i've been listening to Shostakovich's 8th symphony since I got it (I bought the car used and didn't ask about the CD player)
  4. I have no idea what happened, but I send my best wishes to Paul. He's a great guy.
  5. in fact, no, I read the entire sentence. My past girlfriends have all (with one exception) had incredible curves. I like em that way!
  6. now that's my favorite combination!
  7. I've never dated anyone taller than me. Although I would like to. Of course, like several posts above me have said already, height is not a factor. I do find it funny that people (no personal attacks here) talk a lot about ignoring the height of a woman and at the same time have an issue with overweight women, as if that's any different.
  8. all you gotta do is commit grand larceny and voila! free jumping. Check this link out: http://www.wftv.com/news/3034324/detail.html I'm off to find some money to steal from my bosses....
  9. I'm a classical music fan, (composer, performer, etc) and I've had many, many songs in my head all day. I'm never without one. I have a sticky brain when it comes to music. Among others, here are a few: Shostakovich Symphony No. 8, Mvt 3 Prelude, composed by me Entry of the Gods into Valhalla, Richard Wagner Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Mvt 4 Theme from "The Pink Panther" Le Sacre du Printemps (Rite of Spring), Igor Stravinsky. Yes, I realize (and embrace) the fact that I'm a HUGE dork
  10. /obligatory "point break" reference in 3...2...1...
  11. Congratulations on your new addiction. I used to jump at Raeford and I miss the place dearly. I dont want to scare you, but beware the Dragon, it can get you. I'm sure you'll do fine, though.
  12. I know what you mean. I knew a guy (back when I was a regular jumper) who quit his day job once he got good at flying camera and became a professional skydiver. After this it was impossible to get him on a fun jump. He wouldn't even do a hit and chug! However, in his defense, quitting your day job is scary, and depending on skydiving for a living can't be a rich lifestyle. And perhaps the reason he wasn't fun jumping was that he didn't have the opportunity (read: money) to do so. I think (and i'm not an authority) that when you make your hobby your job, then it becomes work. It is work that you love and enjoy, but it's still work. If you see it that way, I'm sure it'd be easy to lose sight of the fun aspect of jumping.
  13. Yeah, I know what you mean. Tunnel time is wonderful. When I was in the Army at Ft. Bragg, I had some connections at the Wind Tunnel there (the one in "Cutaway") I went a couple of days. I think I got about 4 hours of flying time over those two days. Of course I couldn't stand up after that, my muscles were in so much pain. But the best part about it was that it was free!
  14. I don't think you'll be missing a jump with me this weekend, liz. I doubt I'll have enough money for it all. (USPA membership renewal, refresher course, gear rental and lift tickets) I'll be out more to get a feel for the DZ and the people than to jump. But when I do get back in the air, I'll set aside a jump with you.
  15. well thanks everyone. Barring some unforseen circumstance, I'll be out this weekend to check out Tecumseh. Blue Skies
  16. Does anyone know anything about Skydive Napoleon? I think it's near Tecumseh, but I'm not certain. I've looked at the website for both drop zones, and Tecumseh looks nice, but I don't want to count out Napoleon just yet. BSBD
  17. Thanks Weegeegirl. I may come out this coming Saturday. My main problem will be one of money. That's one reason I want to get my rigger cert soon. Then I can start working as a rigger/packer until I get up enough money to jump again. My real job has to pay for other things this summer.
  18. I'm trying to get back into the sport and I know there are several drop zones in the area (within a 2 hour drive). I'm still trying to pick one. I'm just curious as to what's out there and which I should choose. Info about me: I live in Pontiac, MI. I have about 280 jumps, but my last one was 2 years ago. Most of my jumps are RW-based. I'm also looking at finishing up my rigger training and taking the exam. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Blue Skies
  19. I myself only have one story to tell. I am not jumping right now, and have not for the past 4 years (i'm getting back into it soon though
  20. I've only had one reserve ride, and I bought my rigger a case of beer (he doesn't like liquor). My question is that when I was a rigger apprentice, I had two saves. Does that mean I should've gotten a bottle or does it go to the supervising rigger?
