  1. This might help: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos450d/page4.asp I think you'll find the sizes are similar but the button layout is totally different. Might cause problems with that thing. I assume it's an L-bracket? Do you really need vertical stills? That flush mount looks great without the big ugly plate... Dave
  2. This work? http://sdm.crocker.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=xqpae Dave
  3. I bet if you put away the wingsuit and focused your next 50-100 (or more) jumps on RW, you'd be a better wingsuit flyer in the long run. Wingsuit flocks are a form of RW. One problem I've seen is that most of the experienced wingsuit jumpers (the ones that have done pretty much nothing but wingsuit jumps) have no RW background or experience. The principles are the same... But easily ignored when you only focus on flying your suit. Dave
  4. Actually, freefall flipoffs are extremely rare for me. Can't even remember the last time that happened. I think maybe it was on an RW jump I was filming. Someone flipped me off and went low in the process.
  5. Well, for what the student gets, I think it depends on the student and it's a judgment call (or you can ask them). For Parachutist, the student will never see it. That's for us. Dave
  6. I don't see the big deal. Skydivers remind me that I'm number one all the time when I have my camera out... and when I don't for that matter. Can't imagine too many Parachutist readers will be offended. Dave
  7. Fix your first link... usajobs.com? The one you posted is an ad site. Dave
  8. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3243885 Remind your pilots that tandem cypreses fire at 1900 feet and you have nothing to worry about. Dave
  9. See if you can hook it up as a main (on a borrowed rig) and test jump it. See how it flies. Ravens have bridle attachment points (to be used as mains). I think precision limits how many times it can be jumped as a main (and then be used as a reserve)... 2 jumps maybe? Dave
  10. Yeah, it sucks. You can probably have a racer tomorrow too. Sometimes there's a reason for a long wait... Dave
  11. Sounds like an obvious one to me. It's a definite NO. Sounds like someone that I'd like to piss off and get him to go elsewhere to take his risks. Dave
  12. Like others have said, there's just no need to be so exact. I wouldn't want to plan to open 2 miles from the DZ. Starting off over 3 miles away is really pushing it. Remember, you have control... You don't have to plan everything that precisely because you can fly to where you want to be. Also, don't expect to be maxing out the suit on your first jump. You'll want to play around with it and see what changing your body position does. You're not going for a distance record. Dave
  13. I have to say your posts are getting a lot more informative and less annoying since you announced your decision to run for national director!
  14. I didn't see anyone recommend just living with it. Call Aerodyne and see what it would cost to get the laterals lengthened. When I got my first rig (a Reflex), it got send back to fliteline to get a smaller harness. I don't know what the final bill was.... the seller paid for it. But it wasn't TOO expensive. Only problem I had was that fliteline went out of business while they had my rig... took a bit longer than expected.
  15. My 10-22 has been on a UPS truck since about 5am. This wait is killing me. Any minute now...
  16. I would and I have. I much prefer to have a cypres, but not having one isn't going to stop me. But, it is a personal choice and there is NOTHING wrong with choosing not to jump until your cypres is back. Dave
  17. Ask them if they want SkydivingMovies.com too! I want to sell out!!! Congrats though! I know it's private information but HOW MUCH YA GETTING??? C'mon... Dave
  18. Sucks that the instructor got sent home, but I don't understand why you had to leave. Why didn't you just try a different instructor? Sounds like you voluntarily gave up your time. I wouldn't expect a refund when you leave in the middle of the day. I think I'd prefer to deal with a new instructor than give up $600 for nothing. Dave
  19. I'm trying to calculate my ratio, but my calculator keeps giving me a "divide by zero error" every time I try to figure it out. Dave
  20. I think the sidewinders were built for one particular camera. Obviously yours was not built for a PC101. You might be able to modify it, but your camera just doesn't fit that helmet. The PC-series cameras vary in size and shape by a lot. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/wiki/index.php/Video_Cameras#Sony_PC_Series Dave
  21. I think there's a much bigger pro to lens IS... You can see it in action. Body IS has no affect when you're looking through the viewfinder. Lens IS helps sooooo much on my 300mm lens. Push the shutter half way, and the view through the viewfinder just comes to a stop. That won't happen with body IS. Dave
  22. Wouldn't it be odd for a manufacturer to give dimensions of raw materials that can't be measured by the customer? I don't think they'd do that. Dave
  23. Well, generally adding glass in front of a lens will impair the video quality to some extent. Is the cookie filter a "quality UV filter?" Is it coated to reduce internal reflections? Do you know for a fact that the cookie filter is higher quality than the waycool filter? Dave
  24. I had a filter on my waycool for a long time. It came on the lens (bought it used) and I couldn't get it off. I eventually got a little speck of dirt or something between the lens and the filter. Showed up in every video and drove me nuts. I finally gave it to a machinist to try to get it off. I suggested making a threaded hole in a piece of metal that it would screw into so that he could really get a good tug on the filter (camera has plastic threads so i didn't want to pull too hard). But anyway, he ended up cutting it off. So I started jumping without the filter. What a difference! Video looks so much better, especially when facing the sun (on exit for example). I used to use a cheap canon filter on my still camera. I discovered that it was causing a lot of issues too. I replaced that one with a more expensive coated filter and the problem was solved. I like the idea of a clear filter for protection, but not at the expense of picture quality. Dave
