  1. Oh man, I'm gone for spring break till sunday night. When I get back to my computer, I'll have some fun with this one. Actually my new motherboard, processor, and gobs and gobs of memory should be waiting for me when I get back too. Once I get it all up and running, I'll be photoshopping at 1700 MHz! Woohoo! Oh yeah, expect my server to go down either sunday night or monday afternoon for who knows how long.
  2. Hmm...let me guess. It's gonna be a full face helmet thats clear on the front AND back so lazy skydivers don't have to figure out which way to put it on? Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  3. I had a case of the spins on my AFF 4... What helped me was to really think about my legs during the next jump. Toe taps can definitely help if it happens to be your legs that aren't even. You won't stop smiling for a long time when you FEEL the proper position and everything just clicks into place. Once you get it, you get it. On my level 4 (90 degree turns), I went with 2 JMs cause my level 3 wasnt perfect. My first turn went well, but then it was downhill from there and i just kept spinning clockwise. One JM was able to grab back on in front of me and eventually we stopped spinning. After opening, I found myself above the clouds with no clue where the DZ was. I had a radio, but the guy on the ground couldnt see me. He assumed i was upwind of the airport so he gave me two instructions... put the sun on my left, and aim away from the airport. Well, when i finally spotted the airport I realized i was quite a ways downwind of it. I ended up landing in someone's front yard, far enough away that he asked me where the dropzone was. But even after all that, it was still my funnest jump up to that point. So, just have fun and enjoy it even if you are spinning out of control. Everything will just suddenly click into place and you'll be rock solid in freefall. Keep at it and use as many of those jump tickets in one day as you can. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  4. I don't think it has to be a "physical" target. Can't ya be aiming for any spot? I guess if there's no landmarks to judge distance from it could be tough but could ya just pick a place to land from 1000 feet and estimate how close you come? Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com

    Pilots

Yep, PP-ASEL. No flying jumpers... well, I don't let em jump out anyway. Coming up on a year since my last flight as pilot in command though. My flying club's plane had an accident last year and it took a couple months to fix... I flew once after that for 7 tenths of an hour doing landings. Then came summer and I was too busy to fly (working at pratt and whitney for the summer), and it's really expensive where I live at home. My BFR was due August 31st, so i scheduled it for that date. Instructor had to cancel, so it would be september 6th instead. He never showed. I think you see where this is going... it was rescheduled for september 11th. The airport I fly out of was one of 3 that only reopened recently, so i havent been able to fly. Now the airport is open, I've had a background check done by the secret service, I've been briefed by the FAA, and I have my magic PIN number to file a flightplan, but my flying club hasnt brought their plane back to the airport yet. So, no flying for me. I live a 12 minute walk from the airport and don't have a car so getting to any other airport to fly is really tough. I'll be getting a car this summer though so hopefully I won't have as much trouble flying after that. Oh yeah, I'm also about a year away from getting my degree in Aeromaspace Engimaneering. 6. If anyone wants to upload it, go ahead... http://www.skydivingmovies.com. I'm away from the server for a week, on a 28.8 modem, so I can't do much at the moment. I hate slow internet. Yesterday I wanted to move a few files from the uploads directory to /freefly... I ended up using a command line ftp through telnet to download the files to my email account, and reupload them to the proper directory. What a mess. Anyone happen to know of an FTP command to move files from one directory to another? Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  7. oh now making them the same price as a jump ticket is just sick! SICK! You mean I have to CHOOSE between a jump and a shirt? Oh this is the hardest choice of my life! Eh, I think jump tickets are going up to $20 at my DZ in April so maybe this wont be such a hard choice afterall. But still.... I'll have to think about it...
  8. March 15, Pisces. Hmm... there's another Dave copying me!

  10. A couple of friends of mine did a 2 way banner jump last December. It's a little different, but you can see pictures at http://www.inform.umd.edu/studentorg/cpsc/bannerjump.html. The camera's aim was off so the banner was at least partially cut off in all the pictures. The banner was a felt material, reinforced with webbing around the outside and across the back. It nearly tore to shreds about 10 seconds into the jump. It also flapped around too much to really read it. We're going to try again with another banner made of F111. Dave
  11. Umm you sure on that number? A C-5 galaxy only has about 1000 lbs of paint on it. I think you'd have to paint it on about an inch thick to get 1200 lbs on an otter. The empty weight of one of the cessna 172s I fly is 1300 pounds. Dave
  12. Just curious... what kind of helmet? Dave

    cool exit

Did a really fun exit on my one jump yesterday. Afterwards I found out it's called "throwing out the trash." I layed down in the doorway facing out, and two people picked me up by my grippers and tossed me out. Then they came out and caught up with me. So much fun! We were going to do it again with video but the weather turned bad. Maybe next time. Definitely recommended, but just make sure ya get thrown far enough so you don't hit your knees on the doorway or anything. Dave
  14. yep. Thats an awesome video though. quality sucks but its hilarious. Also check out the tandem waiver video there. I had them but was asked to remove them with the threat of a lawsuit. Dave
  15. haha... I don't think I'VE even watched all of them! (just kidding) you are right though... watching videos just makes me wanna jump more. If the weather cooperates I'll be jumping on saturday. Can't wait! Dave working on http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php. Anyone wanna help with data entry so I can get that page done?
  16. Used to use the kroops over the glasses goggles. Hated them. Recently bought a Z1 and it fits fine with my glasses on. I can even put it on and take it off with my glasses on my face. Try one on before you buy it though to make sure it fits with your glasses. It mostly depends on the shape of your head and not so much the size of your glasses (although they'll have to be pretty small). Dave
  17. Had my first reserve repack on my reflex last night (and well into this morning). I had been considering having the catapult removed but I decided to keep it. I heard a few stories about people that could have been saved by the catapult, and none about people killed by it, so I figure its probably a good thing to have. My old rigger loved the thing, but I found out from another rigger thats because the catapult could have saved two people that he packed reserve malfunctions if they needed to use the reserves. My new rigger is, well, a new rigger. My reserve was the first he's packed without supervision. I want every safety device i can get on that thing! When someone proves that it can do more bad than good (I hope its not me), I'll consider removing it. Dave
  18. Just ordered parts to upgrade mine. Going from a pentium 2 350 to an athlon 1700. 192 megs of ram to 512 megs. Cost including shipping is about $450 from http://htt://www.mwave.com. I've heard from 2 friends that it's a reliable company that makes good stuff. They sell parts, barebones systems, and complete custom systems. I'll let you know how it all works when the parts arrive. Ya might even get faster downloads from my server (ok, probably not...but it wont slow down my computer as much anyway). Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php
  19. Cool. It's up at http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php?nme=&cat=All&sze=&lng=&desc=quade&sort=Name&submit=Search (although when i finish the new site, the /phptest... will be dropped). Dave
  20. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php?nme=cornholio&cat=All&sze=&lng=&desc=&sort=Name&submit=Search. Both are up. Great videos! Dave
  21. Hey! I clearly said Sangiro OR Paul, not AND!
  22. Sangiro (or Paul), mind if I put the video on my ftp server? I don't want to "compete" with dropzone.com, but I can mirror the file. I already downloaded it so I just have to move it to the server. Would that be ok? Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  23. Thanks for the video! I'll be moving it to the /students directory and I'll put a link to this page. By the way, I'd be happy to put the big version on my server too if you want. See ya, Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php
  24. more skyray videos available at http://www.skydivingmovies.com/phptest/view_data.php?nme=&cat=All&sze=&lng=&desc=skyray&sort=Name&submit=Search. Marcus, is that your video? if it is, can I post it on my site? Dave
