FYI, that K-Lite codec pack does contain the necessary codec for that. Cool video! Dave

I have no idea what you just said, but in I think ya only live once and if your heart is gonna kill ya, might as well be doing something fun.

I spent about half my day at work trying more designs. I tried some mostly blue ones I really liked. I think I'll dump the ones with low votes and maybe try for another round with some more colorful designs. Fuck resale. I might even go for some embroidery! Besides, something with my name on it will be worth more some day, right?

That last one i posted is a Pacific Aerospace (PAC) Airtrainer. Same company that makes the Cresco and PAC 750. Dave

Oh, the nerve of some skydivers!!

I don't really care if freeflyers freefall past my opening canopy... as long as they're 1000 feet away. Exit order is all about horizontal separation at pull time. It would be different if the student was opening much higher, but a 4000 foot opening after a minute of freefall will give plenty of horizontal separation if the freeflyers wait an appropriate (not excessive) amount of time before exiting. I have no problem with anyone telling me how long to give them before exiting...as long as they know what they're talking about. Dave -
Take it easy for a few jumps and forget about passing a level. Just go out, get stable, do some turns, whatever you feel like doing (with permission from your instructor ahead of time of course). But just don't worry about perfection and passing or failing. Also, if your legs are getting uneven, toe taps can help you find them. Don't give up jumping, but talk to your instructors and figure out what you can change other than trying to force yourself to relax in a stressful situation. Dave

Yeah I tried a few mostly royal designs and they look pretty good. Just not sure if I want to be "stuck with" so much color in case I do want a different color jumpsuit or whatever. Also resale value (not that i'm really thinking all that much about it). Black goes with anything and gray is pretty universal too. But i'll think about more royal. Any idea how it holds up as far as fading and staying clean looking? Dave

Nope, silver. Will probably start looking orange or at least brown after a few bad landings though.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy a Vector 3. I'm pretty sure I want my vector 3 to match, or go well with, my jumpsuit. So I've narrowed down the colors. But I still can't pick a design. I put together 9 versions: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/vector3/ Which do you like most, and what would you change? Anyone have basic color tips for designing a rig? Anyone have a vector similar to any of the ones I designed? By the way, on my monitor the Royal appears purple, but it's pure blue in real life. NO MORE PINK!!!! Dave

Ok, this one might be easy for some... the company's been in our news a lot lately. Dave

Was he licensed? I can't even imagine an unlicensed jumper showing up where I jump, getting a rental rig, and getting on the plane without being thoroughly "interrogated" by an instructor. Ok, so nobody told him about the rig. Did anyone show him an aerial shot of the DZ? Talk about the landing pattern? The beer line? Don't get me wrong, this sounds like a heck of a candidate for the stupidest student thread (assuming he's a student). If he's got an A license, he should at least know what a throwout is even if he's never used one. But the DZ is responsible too. They don't want anyone getting killed. That's just not good for business. Dave

I think you're going to have trouble finding a used container big enough for a 190 main with a harness small enough to fit you. Might need to think about getting something new. On the other hand, if you find a container that'll hold a 190 but has a harness a little too long, you may be able to get it shortened. That's what I did. What size canopy do you think you'll be going down to in the relatively near future? Dave
-
I guess not everyone can afford a quality rig like a Reflex. I'm sorry. Dave

Mitsubishi F-2, a development of the F-16 made partially by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin), the F-16 company. Dave

I voted for the Beech Staggerwing, but here's a pic of me (in red) learning how to bail out of a Spitfire before going for a flight at Oshkosh '96. The other pic is a view of Lake Winnebago from inside the Spitfire. Yes, I know I'm the lucky.

Yep... first link on google: http://www.helis.com/50s/h_rotdyn.php Saw some videos of it. Really cool design. Could land and take off vertically in small areas. No need for a tail rotor because of the tip jets (no torque on the fuselage). Then it would build speed, shut down the tip jets, and cruise along as a gyroplane. I think the prototype crashed and they abandoned the project or something. Can't remember. Dave

I'm definitely no expert but in my experience, lots of pressure on the chest isn't very likely. Most of the pressure of an opening is going to be on your leg straps. I'm sure its possible to get pressure on the chest in a really weird, hard opening, but it wouldn't be usual. I doubt extra padding is necessary, but it probably could be done. I'd do anything on both sides though to keep it even. Hope that pacemaker has an extra fast setting!

Nope.... another hint... italian. keep looking

"free fall", 10 PM eastern, discovery wings. Dave

Douglas XB-43. Ok, I had to use a book for that one.

Fairey Rotodyne I think its called. I happened to go to a lecture about gyroplanes by one of the Groen brothers last year. They're developing a gyroplane similar to that. (it's not a helicopter...the rotors are powere by tip jets for takeoff only, then unpowered for the rest of the flight). Dave

Woohoo! Stumped em all. It's a Commonwealth Aircraft CA-15, made in Australia. First flew in 1946. Here's another... Dave

Subsidies for skydiving at uni!

Transfer! The club I was president of now gets a few thousand $ from the university every year, increasing each year. This year they even gave us funding for 2 hours in the skyventure wind tunnel. Dave -
That's the ugliest Cessna 195 I've ever seen. What kinda engine is on there? Dave
