  1. Hey! As I've said before, quit bashing the wrong reserve! It's only the Dash M that had issues, not the microraven. Mine's going up for sale in about 2 weeks and I don't need bad info floating around!
  2. I check it out once or twice a day. Fark is my cnn.com.
  3. If you seriously plan to just sit on it for quite a while, well, that's just poor investing! I'd recommend to try selling it for more than you paid the second it arrives. Put the money in a bank. Don't touch it. When you're ready to jump a canopy like that, go buy a katana2.
  4. Perception will change, danger won't. I'm sure that's what you are saying. I'm actually responsible for one of those web pages listed above that says driving is safer. (Tried to edit it but apparently I lost my editing privelages over the last week). Well, it actually compares national safety council stats with USPA stats. I always thought of that as somewhat of a joke. Stats can tell you anything you want. But I don't think the typical person will ever truly believe it. Everyone has a pretty good sense of the risks associated with driving. It would be damn hard to actually convince someone that they are literally safer jumping out of a plane than driving in a car. People aren't that naive. Now some people here obviously believe it, but they are apparently especially bad drivers. (just kidding) Dave
  5. You're spending a whole lotta time proving something that everyone already seems to know about a canopy that isn't even made anymore. Did a sabre kill your child or something? Dave
  6. Hehe, I think that's where my problem is... my html editior doesn't seem to like it when I paste in russian text. I'll keep playing till I give up or get it done.
  7. Hmmm, maybe I don't understand how the encoding works. If I take a phrase you gave me, put in in an html file, and view it in my browser, i at first see garbled english letters. So I switch my browser's encoding to cyrillic-windows, and it appears to be in russian to me. I can also change the encoding to cyrillic KOI8-R, and the page still appears to be in russian to me. But, one version is correct, the other version is nonsense. My understanding is the translations you gave me are KOI8-R, so if I put them on a page with a bunch of text encoded in windows, when i set the page encoding, some text will be correctly decoded, and the rest will be nonsense. Is that not correct? Dave
  8. Yeah, the problem is the phrases you translated for me are put into a much bigger list of phrases, which are all encoded in the win1251 format. Your phrases will not fit in with the rest of the page. Dave
  9. Any better? Actually... the rest of the russian on the site is encoded with Windows-1251. Any chance I could get those translations encoded with that? Thanks! Dave
  10. Hey Staso (or other russian readers)... I don't suppose the attached pic says what I want it to, does it? Dave
  11. Actually that's kinda my point. I haven't spent THAT much time on DZs. Either would a kid that hangs out there every once in a while. I've been to 7 DZs in 6 states. Some get pretty wild at night and kids have no business being there any more than at a college party. But, in my experience, they don't get any worse than a college party most of the time. And the partying only starts after dark. You make it sound like when a whuffo walks onto any random DZ, he'll find people shooting up in the open, and walk by people having sex on his way to manifest. Then he'll see two or three people go in while watching the landings. It's just not like that. And actually if you know of DZs where people are having sex out in the open on a regular basis, please submit reviews in the dz.com database!
  12. The scary thing about that video is the guy goes OVER the porter's stabilizer. It's hard to see cause it happens so fast, but watch it a few times and pause it. Site'll be opening soon. Video is called "overthetop.wmv" or .mpg or something. Dave
  13. I'd imagine skydiving videos are pretty boring to the blind. I think I'll pass. Dave
  14. I think a DZ can be a great place for kids to hang out... during the day. At night, definitely not. But if there's anyone doing drugs or even drinking during the day, they have no bidness being on a dropzone. But, just like you've said, all dropzones are different. I jump at a very kid-friendly DZ. Language is the only thing they'd be exposed to. I've been jumping for 5 years and never once seen hard drugs, sex, or death. Not saying they don't happen. Just saying that they don't happen all the time. I have seen little kids learning how to open beer bottles, but that's about as bad as it gets on a normal day. Maybe most people wouldn't find that strange but I was never really exposed to drinking as a little kid so I find it pretty odd. But to say a DZ is a bad place for kids because they are full of sex, drugs, and death just sounds so out of touch with reality. Sure doesn't sound like any DZ I've ever been to. Dave
  15. Awesome! Skydivingmovies.com is (at least partially) multilingual! Thanks guys, and keep em coming if you have more languages. Dave
  16. Well, they say scimitar is an alternate selling of scimiter, but then scimitar is also something completely different (an asian sword). Scimiter and sabres, according to them, were cavalry swords. That not right? Dave
  17. I gotta disagree with ya. Size does matter. Scaling effects play major roles in aerodynamics. Look up Reynolds number. Dave
  18. I'm looking for the following words or phrases in these languages: Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Norwegian, italian, russian, and hebrew. If you speak any of these languages fluently, can you help me? For the languages that use different characters, can you write them in english characters so that the browser will translate them (ie. ÷èâåøéä is how I see it unless I changed the encoding in my browser). I'd just use an online translator but I don't trust that I'm always getting the proper word. Phrases: click on a filename for more info about that video Name Date Comment Comments Submit Comment Choose language If it's not on video, it didn't happen! not rated yet "Average videos should get a 3, above average a 4, and so on. 5 should be reserved for only the very best videos, and 1 for the absolute worst." Ok, I think that's all for now. I hope to get at least spanish, french, and german, but I'll take any of the languages listed that I can get a complete list for. And uhhh, this is for an experiment. I make no guarantees.
  19. I'm hoping skydivingmovies.com will be opening for bidness next week. If you can find somewhere else till then, I can take over after that. Dave
  20. I found the silhouette! Luckily I have access to Janes All the Worlds Aircraft through work. I now have WAY more information than I'll ever need about the Lunds Tekniske Silhouette. But it is a single seat homebuilt that comes in either standard or motorglider versions. First flew in 1984. Edit: that's the only silhouette that appears in at least the last 10 or so years of Janes. Dave
  21. Never tried a factory diver but I like my Z1. Mine fogs after opening in the cold weather every time, so I open it a crack until final, when I open it all the way. I find the tiny bit of distortion from the visor distracting on landing. A lot of the pros use factory divers though, so I guess they work. Dave
  22. I think you can't exactly say they "fixed the problem" since the sabre2 is a whole new canopy, not just a modified sabre1. The sabre2 fixes the hard openings of the sabre1 as much as the spectre or stilleto does. Dave
