That's the onboard flash? Wow... nice! Dave

Since we're on the subject... This guy (not mine) was just under 8 weeks old. Dave

1st one is a husband and wife celebrating his 50th birthday. At least this time she went for the right guy... unlike a few weeks ago.

Oh trust me, I was searching for answers to my problems* and came across at least 2 or 3 forum posts about the training DVD... and only one by you!

Thanks for the tip on media manager. Took forever to get it working (windows 7/64-bit is a major pain in the ass!), but it looks like it'll be helpful once I start filling my computer with CX100 files. Dave

Do AFF jumps count towards your A License?
pilotdave replied to AStack75's topic in Safety and Training
Don't try to finish in a day, but jump jump jump! Try to schedule your first jump for when your next bunch of weekends are going to be free. Jump every week if possible. It gets easier to do multiple jumps in a day as you progress. Don't be like me and wait months between jumps. AFF took me a year. Dave -
But a student pilot certificate literally IS a 3rd class medical form. You can get a [student] pilot's license just by going to the doctor. Dave

This might help: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/camera_multi_page.asp?cid=6007-9424. Dave

Except you posted them with the exif data intact. So we can all see they were shot with an XSi, aperture priority at f/5 with a 15mm lens. Ok, well the one I checked was.

I kept reading and reading and trying to find the punchline where the poor customer service happened. I think I figured it out. You got a sorry instead of a thanks. DAMN THEM! Hard to believe a company could treat a customer so poorly! There's someone out there reading this that ordered a spool of the stuff and got 3 feet of it. He's the one that's got a complaint!

You won't make a jump after August because it's too cold to spend 5 minutes outside, but you'll spend a day out in the cold skiing? I don't believe it. Can't picture you skiing.

TV Show Looking to License Skydiver Footage
pilotdave replied to Rudetube's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm in contact with him. I know the instructor and videographer (and I converted it from VHS to DVD and put it online too). I never hand out contact info for the video owners, but I do pass along the contact info for the TV person to the video owners. You can tell from the quality that the VHS tape had a lot of views. That one's been shown over and over at the DZ for probably 10 years. -
I bought one too last time. Still haven't used it. Maybe an oversized home for my new CX100. Anyway, same warning as last time... the case is much smaller than the one in the picture. Read the dimensions. Still nice though... Dave

Hold the nuts on the inside with your fingers, pushing in on them. Turn the screws on the outside with a coin... quarter turn. The nuts will pop off... spring loaded. Dave

Just got my CX100 and a Century .55. I've seen so many CX100s with lenses twice the size of the camera. I wanted something a little more compact. Actually I would have loved to keep using my WayCool .45, but it's not an HD lens. Saw some reviews of the Century .55 here and it looked good, so I went for it. I didn't see any pictures, so I made some of my own in case anybody else is looking for a lens that doesn't look like it's trying to kill you. I don't have a .3 lens to compare it to, but here's a comparison with the WayCool .45. The Century .55 is just a little wider. I'm pleasantly surprised. Dave

Autofocus works great... until it doesn't. Stick with manual focus for video. I once did something like 6 jumps in a row (4-way video) on autofocus by accident. Reviewed each video multiple times with the team after each jump. Never noticed it was on autofocus. Then on the next jump, we went through some moisture. Camera focused right onto the droplets on the lens. The jumpers disappeared from the video. Dave

Nobody likes hearing their DZ get bashed. But the wonderful thing about video is that nobody has to be there to "know." Unless they really do those stunts on the ground in front of a green screen... then we'd have to be there to know what they're doing is ok. But I'm going to assume the videos are real. There's nothing more to know. It's nice to know that those are very exprienced TIs or maybe even I/Es. That's better than new instructors. But it doesn't make it ok. There's nothing somebody could learn by actually going to the DZ and meeting those people that would make it ok. Honestly, that's stuff they could easily lose ratings over. Why do people do that stuff on camera? I wouldn't have any sympathy for them... Dave

Yep, here are some pics I've shot of reserve rides... they are usually pretty obvious, if you're looking. First ones are from yesterday... http://www.skydivingstills.com/keyword/reserve Dave

Yeah. I keep thinking about trying to put a face shield on a vapor. I have no idea how much modding he had to do. Dave
