  1. Any idea how the payment structure is? They don't say on their site. I applied but my site got turned down (because of the registration requirement). I wasn't gonna go write a bunch of code to change my whole site without knowing what they even pay. Dave

  4. Step one is to get those words onto your site. You want the words skydive and michigan to be associated with your URL. A lot of dropzones have state and city names allll over their sites (which is annoying, but it may help search rankings). Dave
  5. One of the ways google ranks sites is based on how many other sites link to yours. Get your URL out there. My site isn't indexed by google, and yet it still comes up very high on searches for skydiving videos since it gets links from so many sites. As google's "spider" looks at web pages, it comes across links to my site. I purposely stopped google from indexing my site to limit hits... not exactly an issue faced by very many sites.

  7. Definitely at LEAST download it and read it. I bought a SIM and IRM for a coach course... $62 or something, including shipping. Dunno why they can't put the entire books online. USPA isn't a publishing company. Having printed books is definitely important for an instructor/coach, but I sure as hell could print them for less than $62. Dave

  9. But surely you agree that green jello is less dense than red jello, and therefore more appropriate for a wingsuit landing. Ok, if density is really all that matters, Jeb should land on a solid block of ice, since it's less dense than liquid water. Dave
  10. I've been working on it for days, and I think it's ready to go. Thanks to the Mac/UNIX/Windows testers that let me know it works in all their browsers. The new uploader should be a lot easier to use than the old one. It no longer uses JAVA, so it's compatible with pretty much all browsers and operating systems. If you've got a skydiving video to upload, try it out at http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=userupload. And if any computer nerds are curious, it's programmed in php, perl, and javascript. It's actually impossible to make an upload progress bar in php alone. What a pain in the butt!   11. OMG why are people making this so complicated. Save as a TIFF if you can, or any other image format like jpeg. Put it in Word or any other similar program. Type where you want. (you can use text boxes, from the draw toolbar, to place text wherever you want). Save it. Dave

  13. Make sure you do get that latest software update installed even though it's working fine as it is. The update, among other fixes, greatly improves the accuracy of the battery indicator. Dave
  14. This is one of the reasons I love my Vector 3... I never put my rig upside down to pack the PC....hard to balance it like that. But some people do flip their rigs onto the yoke when closing the container. Since the closing loop is attached to the bottom flap, there's no need to pull up on the closing loop toward the top of the container. First step of closing is the top flap, which needs to be pulled down toward the bottom. When I have to, I stand my rig up to get the first grommet, then put it on the right side for flap 2, then the left side for the last flap. My Reflex on the other hand was very tight, and I found I often had to sit it down on the yoke to get the closing loop through the bottom flap. I tried not to since I knew it could damage the cypres, but sometimes I found it was the only way to get enough leverage. Dave
  15. Are there any wingsuits/jumpers capable of maintaining a 15 mph rate of descent? I doubt it. Not that it really matters since none of us have any clue how he actually plans to do it. I tried to get it out of him... Jeb's reply to me was just "I wish I could tell you :)". Seems like a nice guy... I hope he chooses green jello. It's softer than red. Dave
  16. DZs have different ways of doing it. Where I used to jump, it was a pretty normal day interrupted by a safety seminar between jumps. Where I jump now, they set up booths, each one presenting a different topic. You can move from booth to booth throughout the morning, listening to a different seminar at each one. You also get a card with each topic on it, and get it signed off by the presenter at each station. At the end of the morning, all completed cards get turned in for a raffle. One of the stations is the hanging harness... all jumpers are expected (if not required) to get in it at least once a year. Last year was my first safety day at this DZ and I was VERY impressed compared to what I've seen elsewhere. Dave
  17. I kept it down to about once a day, starting the day I ordered it. I ddin't think that was too excessive. Arlo didn't seem to mind too much either.
  18. That is VERY common advice. I've heard it over and over (specifically about the sabre2). I yell at people whenever I hear that, and remind them that I do just fine with my Sabre2 loaded at under 1.1, and my performance is just fine. I've been told (by an instructor) to downsize my reserve because you need to be at at least 1:1 on a reserve to get optimal performance. I let him know that I don't WANT performance on my reserve. Lots of skydivers have crazy ideas about appropriate canopies and wingloading. MANY jumpers have no idea what their wingloading is, or even why it matters. But luckily many of the skydivers that read these forums DO know better. When reading this, it's easy to get the impression that pretty much all jumpers know this stuff, but take a good look around in the real world... most jumpers DON'T read these forums or particularly educate themselves outside of what they hear at the DZ.   19. I've been working on a new upload system, which should be compatible with just about every browser and operating system. I just need a few people to help test it. It seems to work fine in IE and Firefox in windows xp/2000. Any Mac users wanna try it? I also need someone with a strong popup blocker to try it out, since it uses a popup window for the progress bar. Just need you to try uploading any random files... They won't show up on the site.   20. I just don't get it. Why does it matter who asks the question? If you answer it, you're answering it to the entire world, horrible lawyers and all. If you don't think the question should be answered to certain people, don't answer it for anybody (publicly). Besides, do you validate profiles before PMing this information that could cause the end of skydiving as we know it if it ends up in the wrong hands??? Come on... profiles are nice for getting to know who you're chatting with (or arguing with), but you can't rely on them for the truth so why does it matter whats in them? Dave

  25. Inertia is the concept of an object's resistance to change in motion. The formula that defines it is F=ma. Mass is the measure of inertia. Higher mass requires higher force to accelerate. This is just kinematics, not dynamics...though that's the same. Rotational inertia (moments of inertia) comes into play in dynamics. Dunno what the rest of it is about. Dave
