  1. Many DZs teach flat packing first. It's a lot easier to understand what you're looking at. It's easier to learn pro packing after learning to flat pack... at least I've heard. Never learned how to flat pack myself. But I know I struggled with pro packing for a while at first. Dave
  2. Trade shirts with him. I really hope you had fun and didn't act too professorly. Dave
  3. Wow, fancy. When you gonna add a Skyhook coloring program to your website so we can get em to match our rigs?? I want a chromed skyhook with hand painted flames and my name laser etched. And blue seal thread. For free! Have you considered tie dye? It's very popular these days... Dave
  4. Skyhook II? Is what you were showing at the PIA symposium, to ensure the skyhook holds the freebag? I bet the Skyhook III will tear the freebag to shreds after a cutaway... for safety reasons! Dave
  5. Holy crap that black paint must weigh a lot! Dave
  6. Seen the new Favorites section? http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=favs&d=all. It's a start.
  7. They have TV on weekends? What for? Everybody's jumping... Dave
  8. So unlike ASC people, you are on the inside of SkyRide, huh? So what do you think of their business practices? How are the benefits? Dave
  9. Yeah, just like how he horded the 3-ring release and the throw out pilot chute. What a jerk. Get real. Car companies used to charge extra for seatbelts. Most still charge extra for side impact airbags and antilock brakes. Developing skydiving equipment isn't cheap. I believe the skyhook will be an integral part of every rig in the future, just like the 3-ring. But for the time being, it gives RWS a MAJOR competitive advantage. Selling rigs is their business. Dave
  10. Yeah... but it's weird. He hasn't logged in since the day after he registered. The article says "Mr. Shankman... keeps three windows open on his computer during the workday. One actually has work on it. One is on dropzone.com, where he reads reviews of parachutes, and one is on skydivingmovies.com..." C'mon. Don't tell me this was just a one day thing. The article is about wasting time at work. This guy's a time wasting amateur! Dave
  11. You gotta be kidding. Dropzone.com gets mentioned in the new york times cause of a lurker?? How many people have been fired for posting on dropzone.com all day? One of them should really have been mentioned.
  12. Anyone see it? July 17, 2005. Gotta pay to see it at NYtimes.com (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F70712FA3B540C748DDDAE0894DD404482) but the whole article is at http://kink.fm/index.php/weblog/more/on_the_job_the_pauses_that_refresh/. So which one of you is Peter Shankman? Dave
  13. It's a nice idea, but I wouldn't bother with jumpsuits. Just use the DZ's stuff. I'd recommend against owning anything until the club is pretty well established. College clubs come and go very quickly. Not worth the hassle of keeping track of it all, keeping it clean and repaired, and havng enough sizes for everyone. Let the DZ handle that stuff. If you've got a good deal with a DZ, you can raise a lot of money for the club in a relatively short amount of time. Put all that money back into the club. Buy jackets, t-shirts, stickers, etc. Advertise the club and it'll grow. Old ugly jumpsuits seen only at the DZ do little for the club. Dave

  15. Try http://sdm.crocker.com. Same site, different address. And quit scaring me. Dave
  16. Eh, not so small. Check out the iPod Flea. Dave
  17. You will hear many opinions, but they are all useless... ok not really . The only real way to find out is to try on some helmets. I wear my glasses under my Z1 with no problem at all. I can put the helmet on and take it off with my glasses on easily. The bigger your head and glasses are, the worse a Z1 will work with them. It's definitely one of the narrower helmets though, so it doesn't work for a lot of people with glasses. Dave
  18. You sure your dropzone doesn't sell them? Definitely try to find somewhere to get them in person, not by mail, unless you're ordering something else at the same time or can find free shipping. The price just gets ridiculous otherwise. Dave
  19. In what part of do you sense learning by osmosis having taken place? Dave
  20. You can read about it here: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1886. You can also find links to MANY discussions about it by non jumpers. Dave
  21. I wish I had such a big heart, but uhhh... $13 jumps (super otter) all day monday and no students so the staff can have some fun. I'm thinking about getting my old reflex packed so I can have a second rig that day.
  22. Why such a big stilleto? You'll load that too light too, won't you? Besides, stilletos are old technology. You want a velocity! Wait, were you serious?? You really need to get some advice from someone that knows ANYTHING about canopy flight. Please. Dave
  23. I just implemented a new feature on SkydivingMovies.com. It lets you keep a list of your favorite videos. This way you won't have to search for videos you want to keep come back to, either to download later, recommend to friends, or read the comments. You can also see all the videos that other people have added to their favorites list. The idea there is to help people find some good videos to watch. Videos that don't get super high ratings but are very much worth watching sometimes get lost. Some videos with low ratings are really great too. So this is just a way of recommending videos to others. Try it out and let me know if you run into any bugs. I plan to keep refining it... but for now, it works. Just go to any file's info page and click "add to favorites" to add it to your list. You can see your list by clicking on "favorites" near the top of the page. What do you think? Will you use it or is it totally useless to you? Dave
