Looks like that one was stolen from my site... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1750, unless the author uploaded it to there himself. Dave

C would be the aspect ratio. Do a search for that and you should find what you're looking for. It's different for every canopy, but I'm sure theres a small range for non-elliptical 9-cell canopies. Dave

I agree screaming didn't help. It wasn't even a controller he was screaming at. But I'd say it's kind of a nice thing to let SOMEONE know you're about to crash. Coulda saved a lot of time and money if they had to do a search for the wreckage... Did you think you were about to die? Dave
-
My point was that the guy literally thought he was about to die. He said at the end that he saw he was next to an antenna, so he knew he was very very low and out of control. We can all hope we'd react a little better than that, but I'll bet many wouldn't. If the guy knew what was going on, he wouldn't have lost control. Obviously all he knew was he couldn't see anything and the plane was out of control. He said he rolled and was in a spin. What makes you think that didn't happen? Would you be laughing at him if he'd crashed right after the first few seconds of the recording, when he was screaming mayday? Dave
-
There is no IQ test to be a pilot. He thought he was seconds from dying. Probably an inexperienced pilot. I don't see what IQ has to do with anything. Ever read the study "178 seconds to live?". The study found that the average pilot, with or without an instrument rating, lasted 178 seconds before losing control of their aircraft (flight simulator) when they encountered inadvertant IMC. I don't find anything funny about it. Dave

802.11b is much faster than a cable internet connection. A faster wireless network won't really speed up anything you do over the internet, only things you do within the network like transferring files between computers. Not that anyone cares, but Connecticut Parachutists also has wireless. Dave

I don't think so... see http://www.relativeworkshop.com/pdf_files/09238.pdf. "However, if the Skyhook hardware were sewn on the bridle backwards during manufacture or subsequent repair, (with the pointed end of the hook facing the pilot chute, instead of the bag) then you would tow your reserve pilot chute if deployed in response to a main total malfunction. As the instructions state, this pilot chute in tow can be fixed by pulling the yellow RSL tab. Remember, this situation can only be caused by an installation error at the factory, or during a rigger repair of a damaged bridle. It cannot be caused by a packing error." Not something your rigger is going to do by accident during a normal repack. Anyone really worried that this thing is too complicated for your rigger to handle, just look a the drawings and pictures at http://www.relativeworkshop.com/pdt_skyhook.html. It really is a simple little addition to a reserve repack. Dave

Yeah, but only by me. Nobody cared... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1841540;#1841540 Dave

BTW, in case anyone noticed that downloads weren't working at all for a while, it's because I am an idiot. In implementing this new Guest Pass feature, I managed to delete the 3 lines of code that make downloads, well, download. I put them back now. OOPS! Dave

For me, it works fine in IE but not in firefox. I did solve that problem a while ago but it caused a major memory issue... long story, but it caused the server to crash repeatedly. I'll work on it some more... not really sure why it does that but it's probably easily fixable. When my "perfect" download solution turned out to kill the server, I was too pissed to think about it for a while. BTW, if any REAL web page design geeks can tell me why fpassthru causes the entire contents of the file to be loaded into the server's memory and a solution to it, I can fix this real fast. Dave

Ever want your buddies to check out a video on SkydivingMovies.com but those bastards are too lazy to register? Well, now you can give them a Guest Pass. Just go to the video you want to share and hit "Create Guest Pass." This creates a special page where that video can be downloaded up to 50 times. You can send the link to your friends, they can check it out, and once the 50 downloads are used, well, that's it. Some people used to cheat and send out direct download links to files on the site. I don't like that. It turns the site into just a big online hard drive. Well I closed that little security hole at 2am this morning, with a stroke of brilliance... or something. So I figured I'd give another option. BTW, it's still in testing so let me know if you find any funny behavior. So what do you think? Think you'll use it? Think 50 downloads is a good number? Anything else? Dave

Service ceiling is defined as the maximum altitude at which an aircraft can maintain a rate of climb of 100 fpm. It is not the absolute ceiling that the aircraft can climb to. All aircraft can fly higher than their service ceiling, by definition. But uhhh, I still agree. Good luck getting to 22K. Hope they've got industrial sized oxygen tanks... Dave

Bandwidth's free at SkydivingMovies.com but I was asked to remove it too. Lemme know if you want it back up. Dave

You do understand that the Skyhook attaches to the RSL, right? What is your reasoning behind not liking or using an RSL now? How does adding the Skyhook change things for you? Where have you been for the last 25 skyhook threads?? Do you have a different opinion about it that you'd like to share? Dave

If you've got an alti-2 field service member nearby, they've got their own batteries to use for updates so it doesn't drain your own. I love my neptune, but I'd still recommend a mechanical altimeter for the first one. A good one (like a galaxy) will last a lifetime. Later on it can be a backup if you get a neptune, or you might choose to use the neptune as an audible, which is what I did. If ya don't like the face on the galaxy, design your own: http://www.alti-2.com/AnalogAltimeters/custom_dial_faces.htm. Dave

Every one of these Skyhook threads must sell at least a couple more vectors. Can't pay for advertising like this word of mouth stuff. I think schon267 is Bill Booth in disguise just tying to get more business! Dave

Dunno the answer to your question, but I do know ya ruin a Z1 by adjusting the draw string every time you put it on. Set it once, tuck it into the fabric, and forget it. No probs with the glue coming off or the draw string wearing out after ~500 jumps on mine. Haven't adjusted it since the day I bought it, and it works great that way. Dave

We had a good one a couple weeks ago. A woman lost her Z1 right out the door at 14,000 feet... apparently got kicked on exit or something. It was a very long spot... she was in the first group, I was in the second group. I barely made it to the DZ, some people in my group landed off. The first couple people in her group landed, started talking about how much it sucked that she lost her helmet. After talking for a little while, they spotted something crash onto the DZ. Her helmet landed right in the landing area. Cracked the visor, but that was it. Had to have been in freefall for at least 4 or 5 minutes. Perfect spot... for the helmet anyway! Dave

Definitely! That's pretty much his only option to get unbanned at this point. Dave

His loss! Banned him, just in case he ever does figure out how to log in. Dave

"your website sucks! It wont let me log in even after you sent me the email. I tried using a different browser and you still suck ass." There's a really easy fix for this. I know exactly what his problem is. But do you think I'm gonna help? BZZZZZZZ! Try again! I love people. Dave
