I got a copy of IE7 beta. Now it's probably an outdated beta (I've probably had it for 6 months by now) and I don't use it enough to get it set up the way I'd like it, but I absolutely HATE it. They've added tabbed browsing, which I know people love but it's the first thing I shut off in firefox. Can't stand it. Never figured out how to shut it off in IE7. I was totally turned off by it when I loaded up my start page, yahoo mail, and found that it told me I needed to upgrade my browser. Yahoo did get that issue fixed. Unless IE7 is MUCH different when it gets released, Firefox has nothing to worry about... BTW, attached are some recent browser stats for SkydivingMovies.com (just the last couple months). Dave

photo of near miss with Southwest 737?
pilotdave replied to panzwami's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Someone once posted (I think it was on here) a series of 3 pics of this. One as the plane approached, one as it passed by, and a 3rd as it left. Maybe lost on an old forum version or something... Dave -
I switched to firefox a while back. My single favorite feature is the "begin finding when you begin typing" feature (tools->options->advanced->accessibility). It searches the current page for whatever text you type in...without having to hit ctrl+F or go through any menu. You just start typing whatever you want to search for. I use it all the time and really miss it when I'm at work where I have to use IE. Firefox also has tons of great extensions, which I can't do without (they get rid of some built-in annoyances and add new features). Linkification is an extension that turns any non-clicky link into a clicky link automatically. Comes in very handy on this site. There are a few out there to translate the web page you're on. I use that a lot to read threads on french skydiving forums. Image zoom lets you blow up any image on any page through a right-click menu. Perfect for getting a better look at avatars and things like that. I also use one called IEview, which allows you to quickly open the current page in IE if there's something on it that's not working. There are tons of other great extensions. They make all the difference to me. Dave

Skydivingmoives.com.. wheres it gone??
pilotdave replied to BirdBoi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
New Policy: SkydivingMovies.com has signed an agreement with the US department of labor to shut down during business hours to increase US worker productivity. PC World Magazine and The New York Times both mention SkydivingMovies.com as a major workplace time waster for the american people. We're doing our part to fix this major issue and help improve the US economy. Sorry Australia, we can't shut down during your work hours. Aw crap it's back up. Guess I was just kidding. Damnit... another joke ruined. Dave -
You ever read the ISP? My post-AFF jumps were like yours. I think I did 2 coached jumps after AFF...maybe even after I got my A license, can't remember. But a DZ that follows the ISP doesn't work like that anymore. And it sure shows in the new A-licensed students. Damn they're so much better than I was when I got my A. Dave

Anyone aware of any Holiday festivities @ Skydive San Diego?
pilotdave replied to sd-slider's topic in The Bonfire
If you really want to support the DZO, throw them out. Giving em away (or especially selling them) doesn't do the guy any good. I mean, I'm not saying you shouldn't try to recoup your losses... but giving or selling those tickets to someone that will use them doesn't really help the DZ at all. Dave -
Skydivingmoives.com.. wheres it gone??
pilotdave replied to BirdBoi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do modern Macs still have an open apple button? I was thinking of an Apple IIe. And don't lie about the server. We know it's hamster powered. Bubbles the SkydivingMovies.com hamster died and you had to make a run to the pet store, didn't you?. Dave -
Skydivingmoives.com.. wheres it gone??
pilotdave replied to BirdBoi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
3.7 gigs? There's just under 40 gigs on the site. You've got some downloading to do! BTW, I've discovered that Matt the web host has a filter to block all my emails that say "server is down." I'll need to think of a more creative way of informing him to go hit ctrl-open apple-reset. Hey that was pretty good right there! Dave -
Skydivingmoives.com.. wheres it gone??

Wanna be my sidekick? Most people want to smack me after a few minutes... Dave -
This is a private website. The owner can charge any amount for anything he wants. He can accept bribes if he chooses. There's no "conflict of interest." The interest is all his. If making extra money was his interest, where's the conflict? I'd also add that this wouldn't apply to permanent bannings. If you're that naughty, well, tough luck. This could just be a way to apologize while supporting the site. If you choose not to pay, you just sit out till your ban is over. You seem to be taking this suggestion personally. Any special reason? Dave

Skydivingmoives.com.. wheres it gone??
pilotdave replied to BirdBoi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Never heard of it. Was it any good? No seriously it's down while we convert it over to a porn site so we can start making some money. I mean... Ummm... I dunno. The web host is prolly still looking for a bigger hammer to smack the server with or something. Dave -
hehe I better go at the french forum at wuza.net and the italian forum at paracadutismo.it. Dave

I don't have one but one of my brothers does. He absolutely loves it. The games are about as good as top of the line console games were probably just a couple years ago (or better), and the picture quality is great. He's bought a bunch of movies for it. I personally hate the idea of buying movies on a media that may not be useable on any other device in the future... but then again I really don't know what the plans are for them. I've played with it a little...hate the shape of it. I just found it very tiring to use for games. My brother seems to love the way it feels in his hands though, so I guess that's not a problem for everyone. Dave

Yeah, looks like the server crashed... Matt'll get it back up ASAP I'm sure. Probably a sign of bad weather this weekend.... not enough people are out jumping! (including me)

Yeah, I only saw it for a second... it's on now... drogue around the TM's neck. Dave

Right now on TLC is Sports Disasters. Later in the show they're going to have a video of a tandem sidespin (and awesome commentary to go with it I'm sure). Can anyone record it and put it online? Dave

You're in FL, right? Go to your favorite container or canopy manufacturer and see who builds skydiving gear in the US. It's a bunch of people sitting at sewing machines. It's not rocket science. Though you probably don't want to know where the flight critical avionics equipment on most planes is made either... Dave

I think safety would be a bigger concern than the technical part of building it. What happens when someone's flying along at a high forward airspeed and suddenly takes a little turn or changes angle of attack? In a vertical tunnel, you can just return to a neutral position if you ever get unstable. Not so simple in a "tracking" tunnel. Dave

Camelbacks are out. THESE are in! Dave

A tiger is a stretch...legally anyway. Canopy can only be opened about 12" in flight. I'm sure it flies fine with the canopy open all the way, but the flight manual restricts it. Is there anything that legally prevents opening a cessna 152's or 172's door in flight? Dave

When someone gets banned from a forum, the moderator should set a mandatory minimum donation to sangiro required to get unbanned. Price could depend on how bad the offense was and the probability that it'll happen again. Dave

Static line jumpers, best to ignore them?
pilotdave replied to artistcalledian's topic in The Bonfire
If I agree with you, can I see some of that dz.com drama I always miss?? I wholeheartedly agree! Never seen a static line student in person though... I already don't associate with them I guess. Dave -
I think this is it (Patrick DeGayardon): http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=338 Really low quality version of it though. Here's Greg Gasson's version... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=968 Dave
