Problems logging in to 'Skydivingmovies.com' ??
pilotdave replied to andyflylife's topic in The Bonfire
I have absolutely no idea what could have happened, but yes, a lot of people suddenly couldn't log in. The registrations haven't been deleted, just the passwords seem to have stopped working. Doesn't make any sense to me. Just get me your email address or username and I can get you a new password. Now I need to figure out wtf coulda caused a problem like this... Edit: Ok lemme take that back. I've just sent new passwords to a ton of people, but yours is the first one i've come across that isn't in the database. S'gone. Edit 2: n/m again. Found it, different email. New pword coming right up. Dave -
Well, I'm off to school. Through the snow. Uphill. Both ways. Dave

...and most people probably just think I'm nuts. Dave

Ok, hypothetically speaking (or you can go try this if you want), if we put the conveyor belt on the DZ, and towed the entire DZ with a tractor at 100 knots, and the plane did take off, how much time do we leave between groups? Dave

Site's back up. Hope you enjoyed the wait! Dave

Matt just got back from the pet store. He's getting Bubbles IX all trained up. Then he just has to give him a few steroids shots to keep the speed up. Should be on soon. Dave

Yeah, I read about half the article, thinking there was going to be some good explanation for what happened. Nope, the guy was just so incredibly far out of the loop that he really had no business flying. The fact remains that a C-152 isn't a threat to national security, but this was just a silly ADIZ bust. There have been a few that made a lot more sense, like a guy that filed a flight plan into college park airport (inside the flight restriction zone, which is inside the ADIZ) and got ATC clearances innapropriately all the way in. He did everything right, and nobody told him what he was doing was illegal. He was met by the FBI upon landing, but was allowed to leave later that day I think (but only with a local pilot on board who was cleared to fly within the FRZ). They do have ways now to help prevent this kind of thing from happening again, like the laser warning system. But I guess if you've never read about it, you'd just fly along wondering why the inside of your plane is flashing red and green. Dave

WTF? Not only have I had work today and yesterday, but my grad school isn't even cancelled for tonight! Life isn't fair. Dave

Our resident physics professors'll debate for hours about useless things like exit separation, but where are they now when we're talking about something that affects us all in our everyday lives?? Dave

I'm sure matt is just strapping on his snow shoes to reach the server. Dave

It seems to be a pretty complex problem. The frictional force is not necessarily proportional to the rotation of the wheels (or the relative speed of the plane vs the belt). Here's a 231 page discussion on a physics forum about this problem: http://forum.physorg.com/index.php?showtopic=2417&st=0 And finally, video proof of the "correct" answer (or not, who knows): http://videos.streetfire.net/Comment.aspx?fileid=35E964D9-38DB-4EFD-BE8D-D6BA1A43A06B Please don't continue this for 231 pages!

You mean every DZ doesn't have one of these? Dave

Site'll be back up tomorrow morning. Dave

And they gave you the job anyway? I didn't know you knew how to beat a lie detector... You do wear an awful lot of red... Dave Dave

Bring warm clothes! I've gone to florida (orlando and farther north) in january for the last few years. It can be very chilly. One year it was up to the lower 50s during the day, mostly high 40s, and down into the 20s at night (and I was planning to camp out with my crappy sleeping bag). I arrive in orlando on the 17th of this month... hoping for nice warm weather. 80s would be just fine, and I think I could even live with 70s.

I dunno what all of you are talking about... www.sdm.com, my favorite German Software Design and Management company's site is working just fine. I agree though, there's nothing better than reading about SAP in german. God I love that site. Dave

Dunno... had a few crashes recently. Not sure what's been causing them. It'll be back up soon... whenever matt can get to it. Dave

Part of the problem is a new school rule... no taking university vans beyond state lines. Guess some groups weren't treating the vans with the same respect as those fine Maryland boys. Dave -
There are a few airports like that in flight sim... it's just a mistake. They entered incorrect elevation data for the airport, putting it below the surrounding terrain. Dave

I use the twist grip for rudder too... nothing like a real aircraft (other than the comanche helicopter), but it gets the job done... At least you don't have any passengers that'll get airsick as your tail swings around wildly. So when are we gonna have a multiplayer session? I've got an awesome twin otter for flight sim... Dave

So the Maryland guys seem to have cancelled their trip. Sorry UF guys, no van tours through the woods around palatka I guess. Dave -
I happen to work with a (now former) "shit hook" pilot. I tried to convince him to bring in to the DZ. Unfortunately they require a whole crew and uhhh, they value their careers. When I asked for a ride, he said "trust me, you don't want a ride in one of these!" Course I don't agree... I'd ride in anything that flies.

My guess: military contracts. I don't think it's a decision maker because an uncertified company can have just as good a quality system, but I think it can factor into one's decision. Dave
