  1. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1021. (small and medium size versions are also available)
  2. Here's a pic of the SkyRay that was at the last PIA symposium. Is that RWS's military container? Dave
  3. It's really rare for one skydiver to tell another to pull. Something bad would have to be happening, like someone's main container opening in freefall. Not sure most people would respond to a pull signal ("what the heck are you pointing at?? I don't see anything over there!"), but if they did, they'd sure have the right to kick the guy in the nuts really hard who did it as a joke. And so would everybody in the next group out of the plane... Dave
  4. I went and ordered a rebel xt last night. I shopped around and chose to buy at http://www.newegg.com. Looked at dbuys, but it specifically says "This item is not eligible for any rebate program." I don't understand why that is or exactly what that means, but it got me looking elsewhere. I assume the canon $100 rebate can still be used, but I wasn't sure. I did buy my PC1000 from dbuys and had no problem with their service. I bought a computer from newegg a while ago and was REALLY impressed, which is one of the big reasons I went with them. VERY good, fast service. Not the best price though. Also looked at amazon.com, which is competitive. Before rebate (with lens): Dbuys: $741 (free shipping) Amazon: $779 (free shipping) Newegg: $776 (+ shipping) B&H: $750 (+ shipping) Best Buy: $855 Dave
  5. That's cool, but it's crazy that a refurbished PC1000 costs $100 more than I paid for a brand new one just a few months ago. Boy was my timing good lucky...
  6. http://www.square1.com/custcontainer/voodoo/voodoo.html Shop around before even considering ordering from paragear. Dave
  7. Once the plane climbs above about 3000 feet, it'll be out of deland airspace and have no abnormal restrictions (edit: assuming they make it a class D). The next problem will be getting clearance for the exit. Not sure if the tower will care about that or not. I think the biggest problem with a tower is having the FAA watching operations ALL the time. Deland is obviously a very safe, law abiding DZ, but minor violations can happen on occasion at any DZ. The FARs make it nearly impossible to skydive 100% legally all the time... Dave
  8. Then yeah, probably pretty easy. Dunno for sure without seeing the pic, but the less (important) detail in the background, the easier it usually is to remove someone from the pic. Dave
  9. There may be lest reposts if people were able to search for URLs that had been posted with markup. In other words, searching for "http://www.dailymail.co.uk/...&in_page_id=1770" should give many results, but currently gives none. Dave
  10. Videos of it from 2001: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php. Nothing is new... Dave
  11. This thread absolutely cracks me up. Just over 3 years ago there was a whole series of threads almost identical to this one, except they were "well screw alti-2 for delaying the neptune, i bought a protrack." Do a search by date for "neptune" and start at the last pages and work your way back. It's pretty funny. From initial announcement at the PIA symposium to "...has it been 8 weeks yet???" to "any news on the neptune?" to "i finally got my neptune and it was worth the wait!" As I said 3 years ago about the neptune: "I'm sure they want to ship it as much as you want to receive it." History repeats itself... Dave
  12. Speak french? More discussion: http://www.wuza.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8937&highlight=
  13. Soon after I started working, I was having problems with my Outlook calendar. I searched the web and found it was a known bug, fixed 2 years earlier by MS with an update. I called the computer people to ask them to install the update for me. Nope, not tested, can't be installed. It was causing my meeting reminders to come up late. So I asked for a $250 palm pilot to keep my appointments instead. That was no problem. Dave
  14. You could choose a canopy SIZE, buy a container that will fit that size canopy, then demo canopies in your own container. No need to buy it all at once. Dave
  15. I was thinking of what to get embroidered on my new jumpsuit. Didn't do it though... Dave
  16. Is that supposed to be a good record?? Or are you just pointing out that you knew the risk you were taking by having him pack? Dave
  17. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3965 Nice jump! Dave
  18. There are some GREAT diving exit shots in the World Team 2006 videos. Course they're a little different out of a tailgate than a plane with a side door. I also just uploaded this one: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3975, which ends with a diving exit as seen from inside the plane. Dave
  19. Both are great canopies, but they have some differences. Only way to know which you like more is to try them both, in the same size, if you can. Getting a demo from PD is easy if you have a container to put it in. I read the descriptions of both canopies and everything else I could find and decided the spectre sounded perfect for me. Demoed it, put 17 jumps on it, and nearly bought a used one. Then I demoed a sabre2 and only had the chance to jump it twice. But luckily it only took me those 2 jumps to know I preferred it over the spectre. My DZ is full of people that love spectres and hate sabre2s... it's all about what you like. In my case, it was all about the landings. Spectre landed fine, sabre2 landed sooooo easily. MUCH more flare power in my opinion, but I get dirty looks when I say that at the DZ. Dave
  20. I did a couple wingsuit jumps a while ago. But afterward I got myself a pointy stick that I beat off the wingsuit pushers with. If I trusted weather men at all, I'd be thinking I have nothing to worry about this weekend cause it's gonna rain. But I don't. Dave
  21. Looking forward to it! Just don't get me addicted. Must keep repeating to myself not gonna buy a suit, not gonna buy a suit, not gonna buy a suit... Dave
  22. Warning labels are for covering asses. Instructional courses are for learning about safety. They don't put warning labels on reserves to warn owners that reserves can fail. They put them there so they can tell juries that they warned owners that reserves can fail. People are too busy thinking "oooh, pretty white" to read the warning label on the top of their reserve when they see it for the first time. What good does the warning label on a tandem student harness do other than cover an ass (or a back really)? Wouldn't that spot be better used for something like instructions on proper harness adjustment or a big sign that says "did you remember your altimeter and goggles?" How about the warning label on many sport rigs? Why not put a gear check checklist there instead? Dave
  23. On most modern canopies, that's only going to help when you're got a bit of headwind. On a very light wind/no wind/downwind landing, you'll go farther (and those are the times people often overshoot their target). Dave
  24. Thanks! http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3966 Dave
