  1. Holy shit, this is past the point of being stupid. Posts like this does nothing for this thread or the forums in general. This type of shit is uncalled for and unnecessary. I used to like reading this thread and the last couple of weeks all it has been is shit flinging back and forth. If you have something to say why not keep it to positive information or at least constructive criticism if you don't like what is being said, then keep it professional instead of this. Not only are you wrecking it for the individuals that are participating in this thread but also the ones that are taking part from the side lines. Kill with kindness instead of these outright attacks. They are pissing me off and I can only imagine what they are doing to the people involved.
  2. I think that the main thing with military training is that it is not for all type of people. Look at how many people don't make it through the recruiting process or basic training. Civilians aren't used to the military style teaching. While most people with a military background like that sort of training they are also used to it, trained to think that way and trained to operate that way. However, civilians don't have the same set of standards or are taught the same way that people in the military are. Unfortunately, it is hard for ex- or serving military members to disconnect from this type of structured teaching. It is something that has to be and should be done. I am not saying that they are not times when it is useful and perhaps called for, but most people (Civilians) don't respond well to people treating them like they are in the military. You can have structured lessons and drill the must knows into people's heads without having a military feel to it. I study psychology and am serving in the military , this is my $0.02 and what I have experienced.
  3. You and me both. That looks like it would be a hoot to fly. I have some pictures of some jumps I will have to send your way when I get them all. Lots of fun old canopies.
  4. I am not going to stop the thread right here, I will let others rack their memories. I just happen to be looking my collection of magazines and came across the exact same picture of this canopy.
  5. Glad to see other people are into preserving the past. The sport has a rich history and there is not enough of us "historians" around. 15 rigs is not that mere. That is a great start to preserving the past. Post some pics of you collection when you get a chance. But I imagine that with 15 rigs you are somewhat in the same situation as me and always have some sort of project on the go.
  6. It all depends on what canopy and how many jumps I got on it. Modern gear doesn't strike fear in me like the gear I jump more regularly. My para-sled starts the fear flowing right at packing and stops after landing. Nothing quite like 5 cells of manliness above your head to make you realize what flying is all about.
  7. Everyone keeps telling me I am insane for jumping this old gear so, I guess I will have to keep it original. The Sailwing is the unicorn of canopies. I would love to just see one in flight with my own eyes. I think that it would be easier to do like that guy over seas did and build one. Might not be original but I think it would be one of the only ways to have one.
  8. The Delta II has a OSI and it has a slider for it. I will most likely use the OSI. You have to keep it real and original. The sled had a split in the tail and long lines. This one isn't original right now but it will be when I am done with it. It has a slider and some line mods done to it but it is jumpable in its present configuration.
  9. Murray: That would be awesome. I got a delta II on its way, so we should have some fun stuff going on. Let me know if you are going to do any traveling either this way or south of you, I would love to make a trip and get a couple of dactyl or other vintage gear jumps in. You would have got a kick out of my para-sled jump last weekend. That thing is in a class of its own. This weekend should be good, I might add a few naked old school jumps on list of activities. Cheers, Jim
  10. That I will probably agree with you that your is where you will only see one flying around. The dropzone I am at, a friend and myself usually fly ours in pairs, so far this year there has been about 20 dactyl jumps. Last weekend my para-sled came out this weekend we got dactyl, T10, thunderbow and paracommander jumps already planned. I might bring out the strato-cloud and strato-star. I will see about getting some video and pics up shortly. I am waiting for everything to photographed before posting any of them. But it is very cool that there are others that are jumping this stuff regularly. I starting to wonder why I have a safire 2 that I hardly ever jump. Maybe I will jump it more in 20 yrs.
  11. A broken joint is so much worse than a bone. I have had four knee injuries that has resulted in close to three years of physiotherapy and all the bones I have broken have been good in six weeks at the most then I was back at it. With breaking bones you usually just have to build the muscle around the break. With a joint you have to do that but also build the joint strength up. Making sure that joint is strong is a lot harder to do than the major muscles.
  12. It would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  13. Does anyone have a copy of a Delta II manual that they could send me? I have been looking for one for a while, any help in even directing me to the right person is appreciated.
  14. The design is interesting and since they even mention that it can be misrouted is even more. Improvements can definitely add flaws in other areas and this is one thing to be aware of with this type of system. The design will add some bulk but I think it will be a small amount and I don't think would greatly impact the looks of any rig. As for protection of the locking loop there. I am not really convinced that it is completely protected and that this solves a whole lot there. I have seen loops frayed as well and at that end it happens but I think it is more common on the other side where it passes over the smallest ring and through the grommet. If someone is dragging their gear that is usually the area that is going to be in contact with the ground on a standard set of risers. Now if this used on reverse risers, I would completely agree that it is complete protected, but with a standard set there is still much exposed. I am interested to see what else comes from this as this is something that might require the thinking cap put on longer than it took to write this message. But if you noticed on some rigs the end is different from some manufacturers. Look at Mirage for example, they have a different end than most other manufacturers. I am hungry for more thoughts on this.
  15. I got a para-plane a couple of months ago and with other projects and work getting in the way, I am getting around to restoring it now. Some of the mods on this thing are mysterious and less than comforting. I am sure that many will think that the original configuration isn't comforting either. The Poynter manuals gave the original line specs more or less and the mod for the reefing system. So it is getting a reline and the rings and rope mod. A fellow DZ.com'er sent me the paraplane manual and then I noticed all the mods someone did to the deployment bag. The canopy retaining strap was removed. Does anyone have any pictures of of it or can give me details so that I can construct one? Any other information that can be given regarding specs and details of this canopy is greatly appreciate as well. Cheers.
  16. While I have never seen it, I have heard from people that have worked about Jump Shack's "Lariat" which is similar to the principles of the skyhook to my understanding. From what information I have received about it, I believe it is a noose type system that tightens down on the freebag bridle and uses the main as the pilot chute. I may be wrong about this and if there is anyone out there that has concrete information about this please correct me. This system since it works in a similar manor as a skyhook should be able to extract the reserve canopy just as fast. This is a option on rigs but you have to ask for it as it is not on the order form. Speculation here, but hearing what the creator is like, he probably thinks that his system is superior the way it is or has some kind of information as to why it is not openly offered. I am a racer but I do like the idea of the skyhook. I do not see anyway that pilot chute could extract a canopy as fast as static line could but this other system that they have if I have my information about it correct, would be comparable.
  17. Go to the link below, it will have all the information that you are looking for. http://www.cypres-usa.com/
  18. The lines are different lengths but don't very greatly because of the low aspect ratio. The thing is square like a postage stamp.
  19. I am glad everyone is enjoying seeing the canopies flown again. I really enjoy flying them and so does my friend. If the weather co-operates with us, we are going to be doing a delta II and paradactyl jump, double thunderbows and if I have my parasled by that time double parasleds. If the double para-sled isn't able to be done, we will most likely do a para-sled and para-plane jump. My para-plane matches the para-sled nicely. The end cells are black and the middle is yellow. I will post the pics of these jumps as I get them.
  20. Bill: Since you mentioned it, I decided to post the pic I got from Skypuppy. The sled is going to be seeing the sky again real soon. Your name down the center cell is a little shriveled but that is being worked on and should be very clear for all to see shortly.
  21. There is going to be more vintage gear jumps coming up soon. I got more canopies coming and there are still a lot of plans in the process. I was watching the canopy not far away snapping the photos and it didn't look like it handled great and he said the same. It seems that it required a lot of toggle input and time before turns were initiated. The airfoil is awful compared to today's and we theorize that much of the air back there is already stalled. In the second photo you can right tail pulled down, well it didn't do much of a turn for a little while but once started it went by fairly fast. The landing wasn't a stand up but it was into some deep snow, so even if the landing was good enough to stand up the compressing snow prevented it. He did tell me that it was worse than his paracommander but not as bad as my dactyl. Then again I am a fair bit heavier than him. We are soon going to be doing a double para-sled jump. Now that should be interesting.
  22. I had to wait for some pics from the people that took them. I just had the air shots. This is the only one I got just after he landed. His landing was much nicer than the one I did under my dactyl. Thankfully there is no pictures of that. I got me the jelly legs and bells where ringing.
  23. Well with all these canopy photos popping up through the threads, I thought that I better get my butt in gear. Last Saturday, my friend jumped his Para-Sled that was once owed by the famous Bill Cole. Thought everyone would enjoy to see some color photos of the canopy. Enjoy.
