Javelin Odissey - is it REALLY so COOL to WAIT 21 WEEKS!!!
Tonto replied to potikum's topic in Gear and Rigging
My Mirage G4 was ordered 16 November and delivered 17 December. 21 weeks is bullshit. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Has it arrived yet? I believe its a bit of a wait, so I didn't reply too soon. t It's the year of the Pig.

Really? What's the difference between a drougless tandem birdman and a birdman rodeo WRT efficiency? I got a lot more airtime on a birdman rodeo with a 100 lb rider than I do on a normal skydive, let alone a drougless tandem. Not argueing. You know a lot about Birdman - I know a bit about Tandem, just want to hear the logic. t It's the year of the Pig.

Gerb! WAKE UP! That Nicotine monster has been at your keyboard! Nah. Really dude, best of luck kicking the habit. I'm so glad I never started. So many of my friends started when we were in the military. Hurry up. Wait. Smoke break. What the hell else do you do in a smoke break? Hope you kick it this time. t It's the year of the Pig.

Impressive. Unless you get a wedding reception by mistake. Pity that happened... t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't know about the container. I was offered one at 50% off with options but went for a Mirage G4 staff deal. (40% off Base) That desision cost me about $400 more for fewer options but I think it was worth it getting a known quantity. The Pilot's I've seen at our DZ are by far the most stable canopy I've ever seen, and the openings are really really consistant. Generally I'd consider it "boring" which is why it's my 1st choice for a Birdman rig I'll be building this year. The Smart is new. I suspect it's an evolution of the Tempo - which has performed well for me on several occasions over the years. If pressed to buy a reserve right now, I'd probably go for a PD-R over a Smart, for the same reasons I chose a more proven harness. In all probability, your gear will perform well. We get pickier as we get older. I've had my share of being on the "bleeding edge" of skydiving technology in the past, having jumped Nova's in the year they killed a bunch of people, and bought a Jonathan before I found out each one was different and that poor records were kept of line trims, etc. making them near impossible to maintain. Good luck, t It's the year of the Pig.

If you're wearing only one - it really should be some place you can reach with both hands. Chest strap or either mud flap springs to mind, keep them in the same place each dive, and practice getting it out S-L-O-W-L-Y. That way you stand less chance of throwing it away... An Orange plastic "Zak" knife is not a hook knife. Go blow $4 one day and slash at some old shoelaces with one. My bet is it will break. (And you may cut yourself.) They were made for gutting trout, not skydiving. (They beat cutting a static line with a pair of nail clippers.. but that's a different story..) t It's the year of the Pig.

How many of you DON'T wear altimeters?
Tonto replied to dkf1979's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 1000 dives without any alti, mainly 4 way. We got sucked down once, and my eyeballs saved me - but I started wearing one after that. I now wear a wrist mount and a Pro Dytter. I sometimes wear another one on the legstrap (Thanks Chuck!) but that's used mainly for confirming visuals cues for swoops (or a replacement for one forgotten on the load, or sometimes in a sit) Funny how at 1000 dives I never needed one, and now I sometimes wear 2 visual + Audio. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Eyes Primary visual (Wrist) Secondary visual (Legstrap, other jumpers alti) Audio t It's the year of the Pig.

A Swift. 177sq ft of pure 5 cell performance. Maybe not the best choice these days. Jump lots of demo gear until you find something you like, and that likes you. Good luck, t It's the year of the Pig.

Just read the whole thread and saw the apologies and explanations. Edited my post and PM'd you. Stay cool, t It's the year of the Pig.

I hear what you're saying. I have over 4000 dives, made up roughly of 900 FS (Pre booties, best was a 13 in time - and I coach NO ONE on FS) 600 CF Rotation (Down the back, best is a 13) 1200 AFF (That's quite a lot here) 300 Camera (Mainly 4 and 8 way) 700 Tandem (Hardly current, maybe 80 a year) 100 demo's (In the past when I thought it mattered) and a handful of Freefly and Birdman dives, where I am 100% student and am taught by people with 10% of my total dives. I've been on DZ's for 19 years, hold SL, AFF and TM ratings, jumped canopies from mil surplus rounds to 100sq ft elipticals, competed at a world meet, broken myself twice, saved peoples asses, done a couple of BASE jumps and seen people come, go and die. I won't teach you. I don't have the skills. Edit. OK. read the whole thread. apology accepted. Those with 5 jumps have an infinite amount more dives than 99% of the people on the planet. Those with 10000 jumps have practiced their art for maybe 150 hours - or less than a week. Aggie nailed it. We're all beginners, and should stay hungry to learn. t It's the year of the Pig.

He doesn't, but we should, and it should have nothing to do with our fear of any God's retrebution. We should do it simply because it's nice to be nice, and nice things happen to nice people sooner or later in a world full of shit. Some Ethics which I don't beleive will clash too much with others... "1) To undertake the training to avoid taking the life of beings. This precept applies to all living beings not just humans. All beings have a right to their lives and that right should be respected. 2) To undertake the training to avoid taking things not given. This precept goes further than mere stealing. One should avoid taking anything unless one can be sure that is intended that it is for you. 3) To undertake the training to avoid sensual misconduct. This precept is often mistranslated or misinterpreted as relating only to sexual misconduct but it covers any overindulgence in any sensual pleasure such as gluttony as well as misconduct of a sexual nature. 4) To undertake the training to refrain from false speech. As well as avoiding lying and deceiving, this precept covers slander as well as speech which is not beneficial to the welfare of others. 5) To undertake the training to abstain from substances which cause intoxication and heedlessness. This precept is in a special category as it does not infer any intrinsic evil in, say, alcohol itself but indulgence in such a substance could be the cause of breaking the other four precepts." And no, you don't get punished by Buddha if you don't follow them. t It's the year of the Pig.

Which God? The one that says "An eye for an eye?" or the one that says "Love one another as I have loved you" after flooding and raining fire and brimstone on us. Oh. Same God. Sorry. Is it the God who killed his son to show us how much he loved us? A guy tried to kill Ronnie Raygun to show Jodie Foster how much he loved her and they called him a nutter and locked him away... Is this the God who says condoms are OK, or the God who says if you use one - you'll burn in hell for all eternity? Or the God who supposedly says all infidels should be killed. Or is it the God who says only 140 000 people will go to heaven and the rest will rise and live on (a very crowded) earth? There is some stuff I'll just never understand, so I've left out the sun god, god of war, god of fire, moon goddess and god of loose closure loops as well as a gazillion other manifestations of humankinds insecurities as they're harder to quote. t It's the year of the Pig.

I think everyone here knows I'm not much of a Bush fan. I think being a carrier pilot in the 1940's was even more of a challenge than it is today. Maybe he screwed up - maybe he didn't, but the only people I know who make no mistakes are those that do nothing. t It's the year of the Pig.

This is fasinating! It covers the same period so many white South Africans were leaving SA to move to... The UK, Australia and Canada! The crime rate here is dropping. Does this mean that the SA "Brain drain" are all career criminals moving to greener pastures? Seriously? I think people should have the right to defend themselves. t It's the year of the Pig.
