how many failed aff levels before graduating or so far
Tonto replied to freeryde13's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Johannesberg Skydiving Club It's not DZ policy, but I'm CI so it does filter down. It's just something I do if I see the student is keen, short of money or simply needs more time to settle into their new environment. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Excellent letter. I hope those at PASA take note. We've mirrored USPA in the past, and have an ISP (Intermediate Skills Program) etc. Hope this trend is followed. I'm tired of picking up pieces of shattered body (and ego) t It's the year of the Pig.

FACT: 1. Ninjas are mammals. -------------------------------- What about turtles? Are turtles mammals? What about Ninja turtles? Are they Ninjas? t It's the year of the Pig.

I started jumping before I met my ex wife. I had 600 dives when we met, 1600 when we married and 2500 when we divorced, and I have over 4000 now. I have 2 children. One, 10, has 2 Tandems. Mom doesn't mind. The other, 5, will jump in about 2 years if she's still keen then. There are many ways to die. My ex wife doesn't mind me jumping anymore. t It's the year of the Pig.

Mmm. I hope you're not going to pack it again. Several months of UV exposure to your bridal could really spoil your day come your next mal... t It's the year of the Pig.

Oh Fuck. Who are they going to invade because of this? t It's the year of the Pig.

I'm with you there. They can move them and all kinds of stuff these days. Even keep the pictures on sticks. t It's the year of the Pig. -
What series are you watching? Here in SA, Pearl Islands started last night! t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't think you should jump again. I think you should get married again, and maybe swim with sharks after walking barefoot across the coral, or maybe explore the edge of active volcanos in Teva's and shorts. Do some backwards solo climbing ala Tom Cruise in MI2 as well, and walk the streets of Bagdad in a Boy Scout uniform. You have no fear. It should be fun. Keep us informed of who your 3rd bitchy ex wife is going to be as well! t (roll feeder..) It's the year of the Pig.

I'm an AFF Instructor, so I havn't voted in your poll. I was a Static Line student, but I have over 1400 AFF dives. I've had students move through the 8 levels in a weekend without a repeat. I've also had students do 23 jumps to graduate the AFF program. Most are somewhere in between with 1 or 2 repeats. I don't charge a fee for repeats. The student pays slots, rig hire and pack jobs only on a repeat level. I see it from the point of view of being contracted to graduate the student off AFF for a price. I see no reason why I should be rewarded financially for a student who I'll learn more from than the "perfect" ones. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Find it? It came right off your back! Where's it going to go? Bright colours would help though. I've caught half mine before I've landed. I've also caught many others. Just watch your stuff. It's not that hard. And if you lose it? That's not such a bad thing when you consider the alternatives. t It's the year of the Pig.

That's my reason. I usually introduce the hook knife concept when the AFF student graduates to single instructor levels, or if they ask prior to that. We still do some Static Line at our DZ - so it's easy to explain how a knife could be useful in that senario. Being tool users, we usually figure it out from there. I always have a knife on my rig. (Thanks for the option, Mirage!) I wear 2 when I do CRW. That one instance when I needed it, was the only occurence in 600+ hard core rotation dives, 11 wraps, 6 entanglements and 6 chops and subsequent reserve rides. In any situation an edge is required, something is better than nothing. Even the plastic Zak knives - as Winsor says, are better than nothing. t It's the year of the Pig.

Where are the pics? t It's the year of the Pig.

Why isn't he considering converting to the Methodist faith? I guess the next think would be that he wants you to change your name, right? What's next? t It's the year of the Pig.

Hey. That poll got me thinking too. I did put Erno up in my house for a while though, and I knew people who went to the DZ.com boogie... But I guess I don't exist as anything other than one of those 500 jumpers in South Africa... t It's the year of the Pig.

Ever had to choose safety over friendship?

Several times. Friends should never judge, but if they're putting themselves - or others at risk - you need to step in. t It's the year of the Pig. -
My bad. t It's the year of the Pig.

Well that's just bullshit. How many of your 6 billion people (That's the whole world in 2002..) are under the age of 8, and so not capable of choosing what they believe? Edit: I'm an idiot. t It's the year of the Pig.

I have an AAD, but it's years past it's 8 year check and I don't care. It's not what opens my canopy. I do that. If I can't, and it doesn't - that's OK. Now to hook knives. I'd rather do 1000 AAD'less skydives with a lunatic trying to kill me, than a single CRW dive without a knife. A knife is a simple tool. If you've ever been in a bad wrap, you're blind, can't read alti, trying to breathe through ZP, and been thinking "Fuck... fuck... knife... got it.. fuck.." you'll know how absolutely fucked you'd be without it. I'd go so far as to say that in life - if I were to choose only one tool to survive - it would be a knife. t It's the year of the Pig.

Smaller the landing area, the bigger the canopy. "If you have holes in your jumpsuit - your canopy's too small." t It's the year of the Pig.

You're showing your ignorance in option 4. Buddha was no god. He never proclaimed himself to be a god, and no buddhist worships him as a god or anything else other than a dude with some good idea's on how to stay cool in a world going to shit. I suggest you follow your god, and leave others to follow theirs, or not - as the case may be. t It's the year of the Pig.

I'm with you there. Get as far away from the hard crunchy stuff as you can be. The titanic sunk - but the champagne corks didn't... t It's the year of the Pig.

And that's what counts! t It's the year of the Pig.

I just relined a Stiletto 107 and chose 825, largely due to trim and wear on the 550 line. 550 is also more likely to snag a grommet - although that's not a line choice issue - but a gear maintenance one. I've felt no difference in performance, dispite "all the extra drag" 825 has over 550. t It's the year of the Pig.
