Yes. Something you're very comfortable with and have done several times in daylight without incident. Now get your SIM, read the section on night jumps and listen to the briefing before the jump. Be extra altitude aware. Wear a Dytter if you don't already. Make sure your Alti lighting system doesn't interfere with your alti or other equipment.

That's what I was thinking when I started reading this thread. He was in... Traveling 2 - By Patrick Passe, right? White/Green/Blue suit.. Racer? He made those deployments look REALLY clean. I think if the jumper really knows what they're doing and are using the right gear - there's no problem with it. t It's the year of the Pig.

crewkeith has the right idea, and I'm no expert on rear riser flares. I can't tell you what to do right on your canopy at your DZ on any given day. You're correct that a high speed stall is a real possibility through over controlling the rear risers - but it's probably the potential canopy collapse directly after that stall that will spoil your day at swoop speeds/altitudes. In my opinion, if your swoop is perfect, you'll use your rears to increase the length of your swoop while already flying horizontal at ground or below gate level. If your swoop is NOT perfect with even a hint of the need to dig - then its toggles from there on. t It's the year of the Pig.

If this was meant in jest, I apologise. Bear in mind that there are many more variables to consider when making any turn. Snap/carve/something inbetween will have wildly differing altitude loss. Density altitude is another factor few think about till it gets high or hot or both and people start losing skin and bone. t It's the year of the Pig.

Freefly freindly? Lets have a look.. Doing the mod to cover the bridal between BOC and container is an easy job. Get it done. What are the pin covers like? Do they close down or up? Can you lift the container off the ground by the reserve flap using thumb and forefinger without it opening? Is there any velcro, like on the riser covers? If so, is it new - or in excellent condition? If the riser covers are open, are the brake toggles exposed? t It's the year of the Pig.

AS far as I know... All containers are made in many, many sizes, and those sizes are specific to each manufacturer. You're going to need to rephrase the question to get the answer you want, I think.. t It's the year of the Pig.

which is better windtunnel or jumping ?
Tonto replied to DOCsa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well.. not really. The SA Cat 2 program is the equivalent of the USPA ISP. It simply means more dives while under some supervision by more senior FS exponents. There is no national "Cat 2 coach" test or course. As a Cat 2, you're deemed "safe" to jump flat with one other Cat 2 and probably not kill them. Nothing more. Tunnel time will help your skills, sure, but as an instructor, I wish people - all people - would spend just 5% of the time they spend dirt diving looking at the wind sock on the way out - the direction of the previous jump run - the spot - their order in the exit - their time in the door depending on uppers - their possible out's if deep or shallow. That's the stuff that keeps you jumping - and if you keep jumping, the skills will come. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Word. Overamping on the rear risers to dig out can have VERY ugly consequences. t It's the year of the Pig.

Target fixation (Or obstical obsession as it's know elsewhere) is common when people are under stress. Many "victims" simply don't realise that when hanging between your risers, if you are comfortably looking at something - you're heading right for it. I think you may be on to something with the low turn info lingering in the back of the mind. Many students understand the rules - but fail to prioritise them. Priorities of freefall? 1. Pull 2. At the correct altitude 3. Preferably stable Priorities of landing? 1. Level wing 2. Open area 3. Flare for landing 4. Preferably into wind t It's the year of the Pig.

Hi Pierre, Injuries such as yours are very specific - and I doubt what worked for Peter would work for you. You have one good leg, so it seems a shame to use a system which would disable both legs. One of the major risks for para's is fracture due to lower leg bone density, but lots of therapy these days works on weight bearing with calipers etc to help strengthen the bone. Try and find a senior skydiver or instructor at your DZ who want to help you. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses and design something that will work for you. As soon as Peter contacts me again I'll see if I can get an e-mail address for you. Right now - find someone who will accept your dream as a project and help make it happen. Blue Skies, t It's the year of the Pig.

$26 for a turn up and hang on AFF. $38 if you brief, debrief and supply them with goggles, alti, jumpsuit, etc. $40 for a Tandem - without having to pack or own the gear. On a good weekend - around $600. When the wind blows, few students etc around $125. t It's the year of the Pig.

Yes, Plenty! Dec 88/Jan 89 at mMabatho, Bibi's (Swiss) Boogie. A "shoot through" used to be a D licence requirement back then... Again 89/90.. Ahh.. those Molopo Sun breakfasts, 20km bad spots and sunburned Europeans! Thanks for the beer for your 18way! t It's the year of the Pig.

I have a Stilleto 107 with over 1000 dives on it. Newish lineset, about 250 jumps ago, and it flies great, packs easy. Cost was $400. t It's the year of the Pig.

Or 500 jumps - whichever comes first. My cypres seldom makes it through 2 years with less than 500 jumps. t It's the year of the Pig.

Anyone want to see the true nature of our enemies?
Tonto replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
I support neither, but I do expect a little more disipline from the so called "leader of the free world" when it comes to choosing which fights to get involved in. t It's the year of the Pig. -
This is a fairly basic description of a "Classic" accuracy approach. Bear in mind that these canopies are specifically designed for these approaches, and that the landing is on a "Tuffet" or well padded area around the disk allowing one to land on their butt without injury. In competition, score is more important than dignity. Today's 9 cell, highly (Even 1.2 ppsqft) loaded ZP canopies rely heavily on speed to create lift for landing. "Parafoils" or accuracy canopies, while in very deep brakes are still working weight vs surface area to soften the landing as some of the more extreme designs are easily capable of "reverse" flight. I wouldn't be comfortable making an aproach like this on a "regular" skydiving canopy. Most of us will never need to stomp a 1cm disk. Practical accuracy has 2 major components. 1. Miss an obstical without injury 2. Make it to a safe landing spot. Landing consistantly, safely, with dignity in a 5 - 10 yard circle should be your start goal. If you can't do this from a good spot 100% of the time, you're either jumping in conditions beyond your skill level, or you have more homework to do. (We all have more homework to do.) t It's the year of the Pig.

It's very new to me too, I assure you! Some PM's with HH, 3 days at the DZ, and here I find myself a greenie. Thanks for all the support and good wishes from everyone. My experience in swooping and canopy control covers many years, many sizes and many generations of canopies, from 5 cell mains, to sub 100 crossbraced rocketships. My skills are based firmly on the survival side of the performance curve, after busting myself at about jump number 150, so I'll be passing much of the "How do I do a 400ft swoop?" questions to Skymonkey One. (My answer would be "Very, very carefully!" ) I've only recently switched from toggle spanks to front riser approaches in the past 600 swoops or so, and the vast majority of my experience is at hot and high dropzones, so I hope to relate well to others getting into swooping while wanting to keep their legs intact. t It's the year of the Pig.

But... The US has already developed nuclear weapons. Isn't it a bit late for a pre-emptive strike? t It's the year of the Pig.

I'm sure you'll find it if you search this forum or mail bird-man Inc. I think it was a Chaos 79, loaded to around 3.5ppsqft and trimmed nose down. The doc was on video, and I saw a still of it some time ago. t It's the year of the Pig.
