Personally, I find the prospect of adding multiple rubber bands designed to inhibit the slider coming down frightening. I don't think it is hard to find the centre of the slider and you are just as likely to attach both rubber bands at uneven distances. All my slider up has been sub-terminal so far, I don't wrap the direct control twice like it sounds many people do. I just pull enough of the slider through a black rubber band to support the weight of the slider during extraction.

"Don't be economic girlie-man!" Did anyone else immediately think of Rainer Wolfcastle. I love it.

I know tailgate lineovers have been discussed, but you'll have to find the posts on your own.*** Maybe my search skills are bad, but I still cannot find anything on this forum about it, and I have tried. It seems to me that if there have been several incidents where a slider down lineover has occurred when a tailgate was used correctly, it should be easy to find, or find people who know about it. If anyone else knows of a specific incident where someone had a slider down lineover while using a tailgate and cleared it with the line mod and landed successfully I am interested to hear about it.

1) There have been SEVERAL documented cases of line-overs with tailgates. They've even been discussed here and at over at Blinc. Hi Jason, I did a search and couldn't find anything here relating to a slider down line over with a tail gate used correctly. If you have the time and know the information I'd be interested to hear about these occurrences. Thanks.

I only have three jumps on one. The first was a 5 sec slider up. It opened hard and fast and straight (which is always nice). It has a fantastic glide ratio and flare. These are not at the top of my priorities for a canopy personally. I felt it responded a little too much like a skydiving canopy, but only had that one jump to really judge its flight characteristics. The other two were freefalls for 186ft. The first one was great, it opened at the same height that my flik does, was immediately pressurized and flew to the end of the landing area (which is unusual on this jump). The second one was not so good. It opened in a stall and I pounded into the sand. The previous pack job was by someone else and they assure me that the brake setting they packed with was the same as the one I used on the last jump. I'm not convinced that it was, so it is possible that it was brake issue and not a canopy issue. However, I did decline freefalling it from a 210ft cliff. I'd love to do some more jumps on one.

Interested if anyone is using one for BASE. Does it handle opening shocking without cutting out? Picture quality in low light? Thanks, Jesse.

Hi Tom, Can you elaborate on this at all, particularly what your special setup is and how many times you have freefallen below 160' (over ground, water etc). Thanks.

I like it a lot. The 5th line in my opinion is unnecessary, and even dangerous if you are jumping in areas where the landing area in not optimal (ie, Australia). My concern is the unforgiving nature of transitioning from deep brakes to full flight, and from deep brakes to a flare. Basically, with the 5th line the control range is narrowed and much more sensitive to minor inputs. The flare after the removing the 5th line is great. Most (all bar one I believe) Australian jumpers have removed the 5th line. There is a detailed discussion about this on the ABA site. I guess if you are jumping in places with good landing areas it is not a big deal

Very similar to mine. I have three settings on my Flik 266 vtec, the manufacturer's original is number 1, and I have two more at 4 and then 8 inches deeper. The second setting is the one I use almost all the time. The 1st I use every now and then on low bridge freefalls (especially when I don't anticipate releasing the brakes before landing). I also removed the 5th control line.

I think it is certainly true that pins open consistently faster than velcro. I've done 100 jumps on a reactor 4, and frequently freefall under 200 feet with it, but certainly would prefer a pin rig for the low stuff. I took a vertex off a 165ft freefall over solid ground last week and opened reasonably high. I wouldn't have done this jump on my velcro rig (not because it wouldn't work, but because I see a higher risk for potential problems ie, staggered opening with the shrivel flap). When I stared most of the advice I was given was to get a velcro rig first. While I am happy with the rig, I now see the advantages of a pin rig over velcro and would prefer one. As for the closing sequence, I think it's easy and not something a beginner needs to worry about overly. Having said that, the velcro has taken me everywhere so far and has been solid.

One of the best I think. I especially like the push bike in the canopy trick. Everyone should buy two copies.

Others will know more about this than me. I had the story relayed to me after I made my first jump at this spot several weeks ago. The version I heard was a cavalier jumper was actually trying to swoop the climbers under canopy and fucked up, pulling several people off, and from what I know, killing one and paralyzing another. As such, jumpers aren't especially welcome at this spot anymore.

So, let me get this straight. You are saying that it is always incorrect to use the word 'less' for "a quanity that can be counted". Well I have fewer money than my room mate.

I don't have to do anything. And I'm certainly not going to waste my time debating guns with someone who obviously has different opinions than me. I've lived in both countries, I believe without a doubt that Australia has less shootings. If that makes this country fascist than call me Mussolini.
-
No, the word I wanted was the one I wrote. I'm sure people will be able to understand that I wasn't saying that Australia's shootings are less tragic when they happen, but we do have LESS of them.
-
No, but many less tragic shootings.

(Just trolling through old posts...) I've done them from 168ft over land. Canopy ride was about as long as a PCA from that object (5-6sec). I've done one from 120ft into knee deep water as well. Not a long canopy ride but I think it would be doable onto sand or some other soft surface if you were very quick.
-
OK. Thanks Jasmin. Are you trying to say something?
-
Just a shot from a couple weeks ago. Why not...

Did my first two-way from a certain 500ft cliff. There was something rather special about being in freefall and looking at someone else's pilot-chute in my face before I opened right above them.
