Looking for a guy who I believe is from Indiana?!? His friend's name is Steve and I met them IN Lysebotn back in early August. Have some cool pics from there I think he might want?! If anyone knows him or Steve please let them know! Thanks Dave

I just bought the Uniden GMRS with the 5 mile range. They are the same as FRS for the 14 channels including the shorter range(1.7miles?). Channels 16-22 are the 5 mile channels. So it is nice to be able to have both. You back in Norway K? SabreDave

Maybe you have already checked but..........Lloyd's of London was always the go to agency for people with bizarre and extreme insurance needs! http://www.insuranceconsultingcompany.com/lloyds.htm Hope that is useful! Keep up the good work Jason! SabreDave

Newbies: Do you pack your own rig?
SabreDave replied to flyinghonu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
YEah, so why wouldn;t you jump them?? In general (not directed at any one person!) it seems there are more and more people every year getting into skydiving that are lazy, complacent or just don't give a fuck about what they are doing. To have anything more than 10-15 jumps without packing it yourself seems silly! There is a big defference between someone who has done 500 or 1000 pack jobs paying someone to pack up their shit than folks with less than 100 jumps paying someone. I know it is a changing world but back when I started if you weren't willing to put in some effort, some work and some learning time, the coaches weren't really willing to work with you as a student as that attitude would be showing a lack of repect for the sport. People who have the hot custom gear, the cool expensive jump accessories and can't pack their own shit should try something a little less demanding than skydiving. Learn to pack the bitch when it is a brand new zero-p canopy. If you do, you will be able to pack just about anything, anywhere, anytime! Yes, it does suck but you will learn unless you are below average intelligence. PEOPLE!!! Learn to pack!! It really is important to understand your parachute inside and out, to have an intimate relationship with it. You should know every line, seem and fold like you know your lover's body!! As for packing itself.................... Since I am assuming (although I shouldn't) that those flying high-performance canopies can pack their own stuff I will say this. There is a lot of voodoo for newbies when it comes to packing. It's not that complicated so try not to make it so for yourself. If the lines are straight and clear, the slider is up and in proper position, the brakes are set and it is structurally sound the bloody thing is going to open! If it slams you, learn from it, if it opens off-heading or with line twists, learn from it, talk to the packing gods, talk to a rigger you trust, talk to the freaking manufacturer, just pack your own parachute! Skydiving in the modern world is getting sad. As the skydiving gets better by default it is also getting worse. So.................put that in your pipe and smoke it! SabreDave -
Looking for contact info for Alex from Ohio, Columbus Ohio I think?!? No, I don't know his last name. Alex if you see this, email me! It's Canadian Dave, we did that severe hangover jump from LaMousse (Sp?) back in August. If anyone knows him please tell him I am trying to get a hold of him! Thanks. sabredave@yahoo.com SabreDave

Hey kids I know this is a long shot but....................any active jumpers on Vancouver Island??? Anyone know of anything worth stopping to play on out here?? Been eyeing a crane but it is quite low. So, anyone.............anyone.............?? Thanks SabreDave
-
Wow!! That's intense!! I am glad you are recovering well and getting back in the air! Thank you for answering those questions. As for the girlish sounds............my friends will gladly give you a demo of what I sound like just climbing over the railing No dams where I am, the only dam I have jumped was in Switzerland but not that one. It was probably my scariest jump yet or = to my first anyway. Be well.................. SabreDave

Holy Sheep Shit Batman!!! That was U-G-L-Y!! A few questions for my personal knowledge. Was it a vented canopy? Did the canopy stay reasonably inflated while the nose was against the concrete? It looks like a slider up, was it?? Aprox. how many twists?? Too many to reach above the twists? And finally is he OK?!?!?!?! He sounded quite hurt but I hope that was just the wind knocked out!?! My best wishes for a speedy recovery for the jumper!!! SabreDave

Troll, Troll, Troll..........................no not you.........the canopy!!:) Trolls are nice, have you looked into them? Maybe they are even available with the centre cell vent now?!?! Not sure but it sounded interesting the little I have heard about it. My Troll 290 MDV has so far been great on the lower stuff I have done. SabreDave

I have some pics of a beautiful, shiny Gargoyle built by Morpheus for me. I will send them along in a private email later this weekend amongst others pics as well. Nice work man! SabreDave
-
I own a Gargoyle but have not done any really low FF's. From everyone I have talked to, you should leave the flaps closed no matter how low you go!
-
Ahhhhh Well then I guess I didn't see it. My bad, sorry. SabreDave

AS entertaining as all this crap is.......... If you are talking about the Roll Over from that bridge in the Soul Flyers Clip (I have not seen the entire video) I am pretty sure, no, I am positive that is no BASE canopy but is in fact a paraglider. I dont know alot about them but just a point I thought should be presented. Personally I think that is far more ballsy than with a BASE canopy. I just don;t think I would want to rely on what works wth a very different kind of wing for comparsion with a BASE canopy. SabreDave

Here is a thought...... I am not a super experienced jumper but spent 3 years + ground crewing before I started. I am a photographer by trade and for fun. I can't count how many pics I have that look like that and worse. Most folks don't change their vid cam settings from standard so are usually recording at around 1/60 of a second thus ever being able to catch it. I was always shooting stills and on the daylight jumps using shutter speeds between 1/4000 of a second and 1/16,000 of a second. At those speeds you freeze all of the crazy shit quite well. Could it be that this happens more regularly than people think?? I have pics from several different people that look like that. People with hundreds of jumps, rggers rating etc...... Very knowledgeable people. One of the things I had to get over when I started jumping was the way canopies sometime look coming out! Anyway, just a thought, would like to know more if their is a way to prevent this. SabreDave

Hey dude I'm in Calgary................ email me! On another note- Hi Ron, nice to meet you in the Swiss Valley back near the end of August. Hopefully we can share another exit point in the future!:) Cheers SabreDave

Rumsfeld: There were no WMD's, There is no Al Qaeda/Iraq connection
SabreDave replied to AdD's topic in Speakers Corner
There is no "new" justification... we are there now and have an obligation to, and an interest in, returning the country to a level of stability where they can govern themselves. J Just a thought here but.......(I can feel the flames) does anyone else consider the fact that maybe, just maybe they are not capable of governing themselves? Some societies are not ready to embrace democracy, some outright don't want to. When you have thousands of years of tribalism and religous splintering and ongoing warfare because of it, maybe it can't be sorted out all nicey, nice democratically?!?! On another note.... With all the talk in this forum about God and Christians etc maybe it is time to consider what I believe to be true...........organized religion is poisonous. It has caused more war and killing than anything else in the history of man! An interesting quote by GWB, "I believe God wants me to be president." You will find that people like OSama, Al Zaqari(SP?), etc, etc also believe such utter fucking nonsense. God has no place in the justification for war or killing by anyone. Not the Muslims, not the Christians, NO ONE!! That fact GWB would say that insanely arrogant and dangerous thing was the real breaking point for me and alot of others in the world. He sounded no different than those pricks in Hamas, Al Aqsa(SP?) Martyrs Brigade, Al Qaeda etc............... Phewwww, I'm done...........for now. Have a nice day -

QuoteHey -- it doesn't matter. We're there now. Maybe next time we'll try to have some better intelligence before going to a war which ends up with tens of thousands of people dead, but, he was a really bad dude. reply] A bad dude helped into power by what country? Armed to the teeth by what country mainly? Encouraged to attack Iran by what country? Or how about Afghanistan? Does anybody remember when Bush was a supporter of the Taliban? Remember when millions were given to them for supporting opium poppy eradication? They were a US ally in the "War On Drugs" and were encouraged by the Bush administration even with their brutal and well known disgusting human rights record and treatment of women! Then there is the former CIA payroll boy-Osama..... but that's another story These clowns (Saddam/Osama) are both assholes that deserve a quick and timely meeting with Allah no doubt(is that a personal attack?) But what level of responsibility do the people who supported them at first and helped them to attain a level of power have? Any? SabreDave -
Disaffected Americans look north to 'better government'
SabreDave replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
I am not making assumptions here about Alberta. However, sabre was implying unemployment is out of control here and it is soooo much better in his region. I happen to believe it isn't. And, looking at the numbers I just posted, NJ has a better unemployment rate than all of or any of Alberta. That's all I am getting at. Well, you are wrong. I made no suggestions whatsoever about your unemployment rate. That was you reading way beyond what was written. You have only now said you were in NY so how could I have commented on that?! I was strictly talkking about my region in Canada in response to how "things in Canada are soo bad," with NO assumptions about your situation or mine. Alberta's unemployment rate is the lowest in Canada, we have alot of wealth and a powerhouse economy, that is allI am saying and it was a sarcastic remark to all of the slams about Canada. As for keeping money, I keep plenty. My quality of life is quite high and I surely don't need anymore than I already make. Northern ALberta?? Do you even have a sniff as to what is in northern Alberta? Rates for Canada= -Newfoundland 15.0 (16.6) -Prince Edward Island 11.2 (12.0) -Nova Scotia 8.4 (8.8) -New Brunswick 10.0 (10.0) -Quebec 8.2 (8.2) -Ontario 6.8 (7.0) -Manitoba 5.6 (5.7) -Saskatchewan 5.2 (5.2) -British Columbia 7.3 (7.5) http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2004/08/06/571444-cp.html I think what we can agree on is that it depends on where your from!?!?!? You may look north and think we are all socialist, taxpaying peace mongers with no freedoms. Some here look south and see a violent nation of closed minded religous-right bible thumpers whose "freedom" is carefully watched by its government. You like/love your country and what it stands for I think?!!? We feel the same about our country and the different way we view and act on things. If we collectively didn't feel that loyalty to our respective homelands we wouldn't be very good citizens. And no I don't think leaving is the answer or I would have done so years ago to escape the Liberal bastards that run this place. Now here are some useless numbers right back at you Please notice I included your state and its rate which is higher than ours (Alberta) U.S. Average (as of September) 5.4% Arkansas 5.5% New York 5.5% Texas 5.5% Missouri 5.6% Washington 5.6% Alabama 5.7% California 5.9% Illinois 6.0% Mississippi 6.0% Ohio 6.0% Michigan 6.8% South Carolina 6.9% Oregon 7.3% Alaska 7.6% District of Columbia 7.9% PS- I haven't had this much fun since the pigs ate my brother! Disaffected Americans look north to 'better government'
SabreDave replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
Hmmm ... sounds like I need to visit SabreDave during the Spring/Summer months of 2005 so he can show me some of his big wall exit points. Absolutely!! Here is one of our local exits. You will especially love my landing! Ka-fucking -BAM Worth it!! The landing is a 45-50 degree rubble slope at 6,400 ASL. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1702 AS for GravityMaster, if that is your real name Please repost with qoute where I said it was good for the gov't to keep the surplus??!! Hmmm, right I didn't, so you can't. Budgets work like this............work out a budget. Spend as carefully as governments can. At the end of the year if you spend too much it is a deficit, as an Amercan you probably are familiar with the term deficit?! Once the fiscal year has ended if you have money left over it is a surplus. At that point is when it is ready to be put back into the good of the people. My provincial gov't is already paying roughly %25 of my natural gas costs for heating. We have 2 new hospitals going up in Calgary. We have a dozen new interchages, schools are recieving more money and we hhave the multi-billion$$ Heritage Fund for a rainy day. It will be put back in but not until the final numbers are in. Get it?? SabreDave -

Canuck in USA has stated the obvious. Educate yourself a little first. 3-4x the price??? A statement of pure ignorance. Keep believing the myths if that what it takes to keep you from moving here!! Do a search sometime and find out how many Americans are now traveling abroad to places like India to have thier major surgeries done because the US system has failed them. Some of you guys sure like to criticize the world, try looking in a mirror sometime, you have plenty to work on within your own borders, put your efforts there. Me, I'll just keep living in my debt free province with one of the strongest regional economies in all of North America. Low, low unemployment and a budget surplus projected to be around 6 billion this year. Not to mention the fact I can go daylight big walls and land in front of the rangers or police and have them just say "COOL" Bwahahahahahha And don't worry, we will still lend you our snipers to do the high altitude work when your boys arent up to it SabreDave -
Ummm, no. Why would what somone else does affect my maculinity? What pisses me off is when women put on shoes and leave the kitchen. Amen! SabreDave
-
Nope! I couldn't give a rat's ass what other guys do or dont do. Not my bag of fun but if they wanna do that for fun, to feel good or to win some stupid reality show then have at it. You would have to be pretty insecure to have other men dressing like women affect your masculinity. I also don't feel dumber as a skydiver when someone else hooks in and busts themselves up nor do I feel more of a skydiver when someone swoops 333 feet perfectly. It is what I do as an individual period. The manly man...... SabreDave
