  1. Bought my rig six years after this post, and still encountered this issue. First time my rigger sewed an additional piece of webbing to the leg strap to make it thicker. That worked for about six months (100 -150 jumps). Now it started slipping again. Will take it back to my rigger this weekend to see if there is anything else he can do to the last Javelin I will ever buy. It's great to be accommodating in fixing a problem. It's better to engineer the problem out of existence. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
  2. Nicely done. If you don't mind, how did you get the shot at 1:41? Exceptional any way you did it. To make it live, under the post box, there is a small box with url written in it. Hit that, put your address in it, then close it with the new box which will appear that says /url. Example: [ u r l ]put your url here[ / u r l ]. Obviously, leave out the spaces. You get something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw_yv3_fU7o Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
  3. When I got to Hawaii in 1998 there were three dropzones on the northshore (Dillingham Field, Mokuleia). The third one was called Drop Zone and it was started about 1997, I believe. It was run by Ken "Tugie" Anderson. They used a 402 for jump operations. It was affectionately referred to as a 4-0-Tugie. A lot of energy at that place. I saw them do a demo on Ford Island once. They really put on a show. Very good ambassadors for the sport. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

    OH NOOOO!

All things considered, Sarah doesn't seem all that helpful. What the hell kind of advice is that? Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

  8. Normally, hurricanes that hit Florida form off the west coast of Africa. From there they move with the glacial speed of the British Navy on its way to the Falklands toward the Carib. If you check the weather prior to your departure and there are no disturbances off the coast of Africa or westward, you should have at least 5-7 days of non-hurricane weather ahead of you. Notice I said normally. Hurricanes are whack. They can do whatever and form wherever, but that is the usual pattern. Agree with all of the above. Wx holds we have had lately are more rain/cloud oriented and last from one to two hours late in the afternoon. Not a big deal. Give you a chance to practice your PLFs, hang around in the harness, review your emergency procedures, get hydrated, or rest. Good luck and once you get your license, definitely check out Jump IN. You will have some fun with them. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
  9. The good news is hurricanes are not tornadoes. Tornadoes give no warning. Hurricanes that hit America usually start to form off the west coast of Africa and travel all the way across the Atlantic, fool around for a while in the Caribbean, and then hit the mainland. The trip across the Atlantic usually moves at the speed of the British navy on their way to the Falklands. This allows for plenty of warning. We have not been hit by a hurricane in four or five years, so all the weather geeks are more than ready to advise when it looks like a hurricane is forming. Prior to leaving, check the weather reports for us and if no hurricane is forecast, you will probably have at least five to seven days before one would hit. I would advise you to ensure you talk to the DZ prior to arrival, make arrangements for your class, be prepared to jam as much as possible in as early as you can in the trip. You’re not going to like this, but you should consider not partying during the training. Go to bed early, stay hydrated, and study in the evenings when not at the DZ. If a hurricane does pop up, consider moving to another DZ. Sebastian is a great DZ with good people and an incredible vibe, but there are others that can assist you. Hurricanes seldom move significantly south after hitting the mainland, so if one was to hit around Sebastian, possibly Clewiston, Punta Gorda, or Miami might be an option. If a hurricane is just hugging the coast, consider moving further west to Lake Wales or Zephyrhills. Note that I have attempted to use as many conditional words (probably, seldom, usually, ad nauseum) as possible here. Hurricanes can be wacky things. Exactly ten years ago, people from west Florida were told to consider evacuating in the face of Hurricane Charley. Many moved east to Orlando, exactly in the new and improved path of Charley. If you stay on your toes, you should be good. We have not had a lot of weather holds for students lately for winds. Most have been one to two hour delays for clouds and rain. That’s one to two hours to practice PLF, hanging harness, or discuss traffic patterns with your instructor. Not necessarily bad times. It would be hard to give you anything more definitive. Sometimes you just pays your money and takes your chances. Good luck.
