  2. 3:5:0 Got caught doin' the dirty on Sunday Had a nice canopy collapse for a few seconds after flying in the burble of a tandem *smacks head* Scared the F#@k out of me! Won't be doing that again in a hurry! Apparently it was pretty impressive to watch, I wish I had it on video. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  3. I don't know if this is sarcasm, but I think it should be made clear that this is definately not what you should do! The best way to get stable is to arch, even if you are upside down you will automatically flip over back to belly to earth, your instructor will explain this to you and will be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Have fun! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  4. Real bricks??? This is too good to be true! Maybe one day we'll turn the taps on and won't have to wash our hands with brown chunky water!!! ........well, a girl can dream! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  5. Ok.........I knew about the swoop pond (who could miss it!) but new showers and toilets??!! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  6. I was a vet nurse for 4 years. I left about 4 months ago, got sick of it. In Australia there's not much further to progress being a vet nurse, unless you want to go to vet school, but I had no desire to be a vet after knowing what they put up with! Good luck to you. I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  7. This has been said many times before but the fact of the matter is, we are jumping out of planes with nothing but some material to stop us flattening ourselves on this beautiful planet, it's as safe as it can be made, but I would definately not consider skydiving a safe sport. Any one of us could be in the incidents forum next week even if we do everything right. Does that sound like a safe sport? Edited to add I dont think tandem passengers realise they are greatly increasing their risk of death by doing it. Of course its fun for them, I don't think they know just how much can go wrong, and how quickly it can go wrong. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  8. Those colours for the container are awesome. I'll buy it off you in 5 years time (as long as you keep it clean!) www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  9. That was Sunday. We jumped at Picton on Saturday. Yeah, he basically said they were putting loads up most of the day sunday, just hop and pops I think he said. 27 Skyvan loads yesterday (at 5:30pm and still going!). Can't wait to get there on Friday! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  10. *Slight hijack* Bill, can you clarify this a bit more for me? I was told canopies are designed to deploy in brakes so that if you have a collision on opening neither canopy is flying in full drive, and therefore it will not cause as much pain/problems/destruction to the other. No one ever mentioned that it was actually better for the aerodynamics of the canopy until now (or maybe I should have asked more questions). You can reply via PM if you don't want to change the direction of this thread too much! *end hijack* www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  11. There's a lot of good info (and some bad) in this link. I know it looks like a mess but I'm not computer literate enough to make it neater. Just click it (hopefully I got that much right!). http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=454920;search_string=turbulance;#454920 www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  12. What a waste of money! Do you know how many jumps you could do for that amount of money?! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  13. When I was going through AFF and my B Rels (not too long ago) my instructors always told me to relax, and I thought the same as you - how can I relax while I'm falling 200km/hr towards earth?? Then on one of my jumps my instructor told me he wasnt going to let me start turning points until I smiled at him. So, we exited, I sat there for a while wondering why he wasnt giving me signals to go to the next point, then I remembered and smiled, and it was all good after that. For me, smiling helped me relax, but I guess it's different with everyone. When you finally do relax you'll feel the difference though! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  14. My hands got so cold on a jump I did last year that it hurt to move them. The trouble with that was that when I landed, it was windy but I physically could not collapse my canopy because my hands hurt to much. In the end I had to bite the bullet and deal with the pain to collapse it (in preference of getting dragged into a fence), but by then they'de driven over to where I had landed because they though I was hurt since I sat on the ground so long (trying to warm my hands up). That was the last time I jumped without gloves in winter. As far as I'm concerned (regardless of the pain and uncomfort when hands get cold in skydiving) it's a safety issue. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  15. Steve told me they were doing hop and pops from pretty low with Poo's Cessna. He was in town at the time though, but was going back for some jumps. Only 4 more days to go til I'm there! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  16. I gave up my social life, but also gained a different social life at the dz. Now on saturday nights I am either too tired to go out because I've been jumping all day, or too poor to go out cause I spent all my money jumping. My friends get a little tired of it! Skydivers have good parties anyway, so it's not so bad! You just have to decide what means more to you. Personally I dont really feel as if I've 'sacrificed' anything for skydiving because I have gained so much aswell, including my wonderful boyfriend who I never would have met if I hadnt started jumping!
  17. .........and to think I was trusting you to stop Steve drowing in a drunken mid night swim or simply falling asleep on the runway. Oh what have I done??? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  18. I don't think it's any of your or the DZO's business. What this guy does outside the DZ is his own business. If he is high at the dz that's another story, but all you really have proof of is that he was growing weed and (assumedly) dealing. Also, as the post above me said - do you really think he's going to be free anytime soon?? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  19. Realising at 9000 feet that the reason my boyfriend is grinning so smugly at me is because he is holding my pilot chute.............and then watching him let it go. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  20. Sunny is right. I'm one of the many people who had landing difficulties early on. I stood up about 8 or 9 landings in total up until i had about 50 jumps. I had lots of instructors giving me tips and even got one instructor to give me one on one advice for about an hour before jumping one morning. It all paid off in the end, but I was at the point where I was expecting to smack in on every landing. I think your mind plays a large roll in this also and if you think you're gonna smack in, chances are you will. Just relax, get ready to PLF, and if you stand it up, that's a bonus! Don't feel like you're behind the curve, what you're going through is actually fairly normal. Just do a search on these forums and see how many threads there are similar to yours! Good luck!
  21. I disagree. No one's landings are perfect when they are starting out. It wont take long to tear up the knees and ass and get grass stains all over your $300 jumpsuit. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  22. Congratulations! Did I miss the beer dammit?? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  23. Dave you should go down with Steve. He's leaving on Sunday. We're jumping at Picton on saturday if you wanna come down and do some jumps! I havent jumped in a month, it's crazy! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  24. I'm only going for the second weekend, but I doubt I'll be jumping there, I dont have much money at the moment. It's all about the party. Pretty much everyone I've asked at the dz is going, it's going to be huge. I wish I could be there the whole time, but I'm sure I'll be having much more fun at work.... www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
  25. A good car wash wouldn't hurt either. At least the blood or whatnot is on the outside. If someone died a bloody death inside a vehicle, you're never getting the smell out, no matter what you do. I hope you're not speaking from experience..... www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
