Yes it is! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

This is a fairly new advertising media (known as "Viral"). Based on the power of the internet. Officially, these are shot by production companies to put on their reels (known as "spec spots" or "test spots"), without any input from a client or agency. In reality, most of the ones produced nowadays are actually ordered by specific clients. It allows them to cross boundaries that they could not cross on TV, while "officially" having nothing to do with the content... They are fun though! I do both. I've been skiing since I'm 2 1/2 years old, and snowboarding since 1983. Snowboards back then had regular ski bindings, and you had to wear ski boots to ride them! Painfull on the knees to say the least... But to this day, I still put the skis on when there is deeeeeeeeep powder. Going straight down, lean the body back, until the tip of the skis are off the ground and the back of the head is touching the snow... Yeaaaaaahhhhhh! Be careful about hypothesises... Many hypothesized that my goggles had no power... Boy, are they sorry now! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

As much as I usually agree with your political view, jcd(bunchofnumbersIcouldn'type), I disagree with this statement. The "smartness" or "dumbness" of voters should have no influence as to who is elected. Otherwise, it would be an "elitist" regime (although it is somehow...), meant only for the "educated" elite... As far as I know, revolutions are carried out by the "people" (even though they may be "controlled" by the "upper classes"). And if for no other reason, their vote should be worth as much as anyone else's (not that it always does though...). I am running out of """"" energy, so "out for now"... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

I actually agree with you. Ask people in the streets if they are free, they will claim they are. Ask them what their definition of freedom is, and most of them will be at a loss to explain it. Repeating you are free does not make you so. I also believe this country was founded on the basis that we should always strive for a better life, and never take for granted what the governing powers claim is/was. Being critical to the government, if one can back it up with rational reasoning, is essential to the preservation of this country's institutions. Dissention (does this word even exist in English?) is a very positive thing if done thoughtfully. Uh... I hate peanut butter. But I do pay taxes now.

I heard once that a pope died after having a hiccup for 23 years! Oh,hiccup. i don't know how to fix it. But I thought my little story would make you feel better.
-
Damn, I didn't even do either for 15 years! I was paying taxes in another country. Silly me. But that's been corrected now! Seriously, actively contributing to society in one's own way is what is crucial to a country. I don't think any branch of society is more important than any other, as it can not survive without the others. 2 unsupervised pack jobs before you got your A?
Frenchy68 replied to fields's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I jumped few unsupervised pack jobs of mine before getting my "A". As for the gear check: my instructor purposelly mis-routed his chest strap. After I pointed it out to him, he told me he was shitting bricks, as he was afraid I wouldn't spot it and he would forget about it and jump it... Probably. But they were still a couple of years away from developping these as reliable means of payload delivery, if I am not mistaken. The British managed to stall long enough for the big players to get their shit together... (Although these bastard cheating Brits were using radars against the mighty luftwaffe! Can't trust them...) That's speculation. The battle of Britain pretty much ended in October 1940. Without air superiority, the Germans did not stand much of a chance to invade Great Britain. The Russian turned the tide at the battle of Stalingrad, in October of 1942. That preceeds the landing of the Americans and allied forces in North Africa. The US played a crucial role in supplying Great Britain while Germany was trying to enforce a blocade. And it played a very essential part in the defeat of Germany. But I think that claiming that it was the only factor in Nazi Germany's desmise is innacurate. You are right regarding the rebuilding statement. However, terrain is an essential part of any military campaign. The fact that the British and Russian used it to their advantage was crucial. The US is also blessed with very useful natural defenses against its potential super-power enemies. Head down 395 from Bishop to Mojave. There are few out there, including a couple few hundred feet away from the highway. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

Thanks, but I slep that one out! In all seriousness, I doubt that the motivation from the King of France to send troops to the US was the fight against tyranny! It was just another way to try to stick it to the Brits. It always seems to be that way: the higher powers fight for supremacy, while the poor fuckers, who are the ones filled with beautiful ideologies of freedom and equality, are the ones dropping blood on foreign lands... Talk to me about night jumps....
Frenchy68 replied to hawkflight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've never done a night jump, but I would assume that checking that your AAD is still on before boarding the plane is pretty important. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return." -
A slight tangent, but am I right to think that even in a case of high altitude cutaway (12,000ft), it is preferable to go for the reserve while at sub-terminal fall rate? 1 on jump 63. Probably poor packing job. I have a feeling answers will vary based on type of jump (CReW, early Tandems, etc...) and packing ability...
