it shouldn't be hard to implement, as all major DZ's claim that they have someone count all canopies opening, checking for cutaways etc.... we have lived a loss at a DZ I used to jump at, one jumper went in, with nothing out, just before lunchtime. Was noticed that he was missing about 4 hours later by his girlfriend (who was absent of the DZ for the day). scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Get lots of "face" shots so that the tandem student/passenger can identify, get some nice panoramic views, get "where he is coming from and where he is going", don't make it shaky, don't make it a video about "your skills" but about "his experience"

"Cold Hard Facts the Anti-Gun Forces can no longer escape."
piisfish replied to Shredex's topic in Speakers Corner
nutters have too easy access on guns. It seems to me that the relationship to guns is not what I would consider healthy. Of what I saw (in my very tiny experince of US and Americans), some people consider weapons as "The Savior" and they can do anything, as they have a gun to protect them. Some others consider them as "The Devil", source of all evil. Some see them and consider them as toys or accessories. They must be respected and treated correctly, and people need to be conscious of the lethal capacity of their guns. Yes, I also have met very gun conscious people, who can have lots of fun with their guns, but who will not do "crazy shit" with them Guns are not good or bad, the People behind guns need to wake up and be adult enough. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
As a civilian, did you have to use your gun ?
piisfish replied to piisfish's topic in Speakers Corner
Mark, I know that, as usual, polls are imperfect In your case I would than say yes (using the gun does not necessarily mean shooting with it) You showed it, and it had the desired effect. I also forgot an option which would have been for me : I own guns, but never wear them, only take them to the gun range and back. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

so, honest question for you open carriers and concealed carriers, as "not on-duty" people, did you ever have to use your guns ? I am not talking military/LEO/security on duty. Not trying to bash anyone, I still have my guns at home. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

Which downsize first scared you?
piisfish replied to NeonLights's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
never scared, but very surprised at first when I downsized from my Crossfire2 119 to my Neos 109. Only 10 sqft difference, 9%, but as the lines are longer the canopy did look VERY small the first time scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

what does the pin protection and the exposed poptop have in common ? This is not relevant, the pin/s is/are against the back of the jumper, therefore having the best pin protection, there is a whole parachute between the plane parts and the pin. The Javelin, as you describe it, does not have an exposed poptop, but a partially exposed reserve pilotchute. The pin is "protected" by the flap, but still exposed to being bent/hit/pushed out of the loop. The Racer reserve pilotchute also has NO FLAP to push before launch, which by definition would insure an easier launch of said PC. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

An Alternative to Commercial Skydiving Helmets
piisfish replied to DFF's topic in Safety and Training
I would say just a bit more protection to protect from the scrapes and shock from the helmet shell itself, there are enough videos of people "hurt" by their helmets. For me the actual size/fit/function of helmets on the market is already very good. Just a better padding would be better. Am I for normed helmets in skydiving ?? HELL NO . We couldn't sticker/paint/screw stuff on them anymore. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
An Alternative to Commercial Skydiving Helmets
piisfish replied to DFF's topic in Safety and Training
Sorry for the tone this thread is taking. DFF has some good points about his protection, Dave also has a point with the statistical result of actual impacts. Definitely in my opinion some real decent protection could do no harm incorporated in actual skydive helmet. Please keep it classy.
