Is it time to work on 1 year repack cycles?
piisfish replied to bodypilot90's topic in Gear and Rigging
***some were shorter than 6 months since last repack OK, now I want your thoughts. Given that we are discussing a 6-month vs 1-yr repack cycle, do you think it would have made any difference in your experience with the 'sticky' freebags? And there is no wrong answer. JerryBaumchenwouldn't change lots on the stickyness issue. But on the general inspection of the gear which MANY jumpers are very bad at. Jumpers expect that "nothing will move" over a year of jumping. But loops do get damaged, flaps do get abused, velcros do lose hookability, fabric does get extra compression, and reserve PC springs do move around. Having someone trustworthy and knowledgeable handling your gear twice a year is a good thing in my opinion. 6 months should be good for Many people actually. The people from the north who have shorter jumping periods would pack/inspect once a year The people from the south who jump all year long would have their gear checked twice a year scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
Without specific details, in what activity did it happen ? Great loss indeed scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

1. Are these from US-built rigs? 2. Did any of these freebags have any coating on the inside of the fabric? I am opposed to any coating coming into contact with any canopy or freebag. JerryBaumchen yes (and also French ), and yes. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

Given the number of sticky freebags I already saw, I would say to extract the canopy without unpacking it. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

I don't think it is a good idea. Not for everyone. Many jumpers are not responsible enough with their gear. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

I generally use a very flashy nail polish, just a small line across so I have a tell-tale plus the polish is often enough just to stop screws unscrewing scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

I kinda do. But saying they are overpriced and overrated is not really far from the truth. You can get a quality suit from Bev, Tony, or even Deepseed for half the price of a LS. Let's see who usually buys LS (my experience and observations): 1. The cool kids..or those who think they are cool as shit because they know staff at a DZ. 2. The rich kids...or those who get mommy and daddy to pay for a LS tunnel suit just so they can compete in tunnel days (mind you half these kids don't even skydive). 3. The select few...or those who really truely have skills to pay the bills. 4. The non select few...or those who are posers (again with just alot of money to throw around when they could have gotten any other suit that does just about the same thing). it's like buying a Vector container fitting a 190 and having it embroiled Micron Series on the side wall. So who's really buying LS....mainly those people who have money to throw around (which really tells them alot about them) when they could get any other suit that fulfills the same role. Liquidsky is a status thing...just like how people buy BMW or Ferrari to show off. I can't afford one and I am jealous Just sayingFIFY scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

How can you save a few minutes with a semi stowless dbag ? scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
Do you have an original stiff main pin protector flap ? If yes, get the shorter modification to allow more flexibility scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
