sorry if my reply is not what you wanted to hear. My opinion, even if I haven't been in the activity for 40 years, is valid. At least for me. If changing canopy is not an option, and relining would be a "last ressource", changing the slider would be one of the ways to get things going. Larger slider is not "always" better. Sometimes smaller slider could work. But having an "elderly" (no disrespect here) jumper acting as a test jumper is not, in my opinion again, the most reasonable alternative. Maybe try to set him up with a demo Spectre with dacron lines. He might like it as much as the Raven. and keep the Raven for the good memories. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Conflicts of interest in skydiving instruction

isn't that what instructors and coaches are paid for ? and even if they are not paid, shouldn't they give forward to newer jumpers that kind of knowledge ? scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -

Not too long after Istel and Sanborn opened their PI dz at Orange, MA, Istel came up with idea of a 'chute' where you just dropped your rig at on the edge of the target pit, it was then pneumatically shuttled into a packing area where it would be ready for you to go again by the time you walked over there. That was about 1962 or so. JerryBaumchen Hey Jerry, what happened to this idea ? Did the next guys come by and didn't want to walk, but instead got a pickup by the turbocharged golf cart ? Here in Switzerland in most DZ's you learn to pack early, sometimes before your 1st jump as you will be jumping your own pack job. Plus the hired packer thing is "almost unknown/unused" here. If you can't pack, you can jump. Once. And then learn to pack scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
If clamps were THAT destructive, wouldn't we see more catastrophic failures on BASE canopies ? scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

315 jumps, Katana 120 loaded at 1.5, seems you unfortunately didn't get the message correctly. Good luck scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

hi Jerry, was it an Apco canopy ? These guys had interesting stuff back in the days, like a rocket propelled reserve which could apparently go through a couple of layers of fabric scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

I thought the coolest part about the whole deal was being in an airplane with 179 other skydivers!I would have loved that too, but I think I would have been even more impressed to be 140 in a helicopter http://www.deltaevasion.com/histo02.html scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Flying Rhenquest, may I suggest investigating in a change of pillow ? My wife got me THIS ONE when she was pregnant. Best present ever. I waited 40 years to find the pillow I needed. Like you I am a snorer, plus I do apnea. With this pillow I can sleep on the side without numbing my arm scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

In my country neither is mandatory. I had one and not the other. If I had a helmet cutaway, I might not have needed the AAD. Still I recommend having both scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
