  4. My point exactly I've had many injuries over the years, and it's been my experience that doctors are too conservative when it comes to when or how much to push yourself After re-reading my first post I'll change it to: Get off the meds, suck it up. As soon as you can, only you, not the doc, will know when you don't need them anymore You're right Steve, dilaudid is a wonderful drug. I took myself off of it while still in the hospital, without the docs permission, but that's just me. I've always hated taking any kind of pain meds NEVER GIVE UP!
  5. Get off the meds, suck it up. You shouldn't need them after the first week Start putting as much weight as you can on it right away. Being on pain meds will let you push it too hard. My teammate was back BASE jumping 6 weeks after breaking his femur NEVER GIVE UP!

    Fury canopy for base

By whom? It's a trial and error thing to get it right. Be careful not to try to get it too close. If you have your DB setting too close to the stall point, any input with an off-heading will induce a stall. It's a thin line Do as Victor said, jump it to find out where the stall point is, go from there NEVER GIVE UP!
  8. If, in fact you have no BASE experience, all your years, and all your skydives with a wingsuit are not going to be of any help to you in the first few seconds off that rock. Which would be one of the most dangerous parts of that jump. The Skygod mentality might kill you though "Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it". Cool Hand Luke NEVER GIVE UP!

    Maritimes Canada

There is one that way, although, you'll need boat rescue to get out. It's a dry landing, just no other way out PM me and I'll set you up with the local NEVER GIVE UP!
  10. I didn't see it, but I heard about it. It seems likely. I was there and part of it. Avery and Dennis were the organizers. Unfortunately, the winds didn't co-operate How do we know that the pilot didn't agree to let him out after dropping the skydivers? I've heard that some pilots might let you out after dropping the first load, once they are out of sight. edited to add: Either way I don't think going to the FAA was the right decision As you said he didn't make the load, so....... ? NEVER GIVE UP!

    Number 100 . . .

What would you say to a student who just got their solo certificate, if they asked why do you skydive? If you don't get it, I can't explain it Just like skydiving, BASE is not for everyone NEVER GIVE UP!
  14. After my first A, when we got home to check out the video, we found out that the camera had picked up the song "The Reaper" by B O C. Thought that fit perfect NEVER GIVE UP!

  16. I have to agree with Tom, vents only give you a flying wing faster. They will not decelerate you any sooner. I spoke with Adam extensively about this when he was developing the Blackjack, and made a bunch of jumps on the pre-production model in 2001. As he explained it to me it will not open faster. What the vents do is give you a fully pressurized (aerodynamic wing) canopy quicker. Until it is fully pressurized it is only a decelerator similar to a round. Deceleration happens at bottom skin inflation, when the canopy expands. At this point you have an open canopy, but not a flying canopy. Without vents the canopy generally needs to move forward to inflate, even if just a little. So it will not open faster, but be a real wing quicker, therefore steerable and able to flare sooner. If you watch video frame by frame, on the non-vented canopies they do reach full span without full pressurization, then inflate. Maybe Marty can explain, he helped develop the BlackJack NEVER GIVE UP!
  17. Way to go Russel!! You're an inspiration!! NEVER GIVE UP!

    Tree Rigging

Hey Tom, The issue with the flap staying closed was fixed a few years ago, shortly after you had expressed concerns with it. I worked closely with Colin on fixing this problem. They work fine to terminal, even with aerials. There was even some people who thought that it was too stiff for low stuff, but I have taken it to both extremes, and it works great. From the pics, it seems that Tree has copied the FX's closing flap. If it is the same, he will need to stiffen it up. The problem happens when you're in a good track. Air flowing over the rig, gets in and under the flap and pops it open. NEVER GIVE UP!
  21. Yes from a helicopter edit to add: but only from maybe 200ft above if that NEVER GIVE UP!
  22. My first one was off an A-750ft, all alone. BASE#97 was on the ground because of a Skydiving injury. He loaned me a 42" PC, and I went off using my Skydiving rig, 9-cell with 1" risers, free packed,slider-down, using the death coil. I was supposed to wait for sunrise, but after about 30 mins. alone up there, I just had to jump! I called down and told them I was going NOW. They tried to get me to wait for light, but the next thing they heard was, FUCK YOUUUUUU, as I left. Made three more with the same set-up, before I smartened up! NEVER GIVE UP!
