I know a lot of peeps with firefly suits that love them too. Might be worth checking out. The webpage is under construction so I would email or call to be sure. http://www.fireflysuits.com/ "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Is this for real? I have always used Woolite for my jumpsuits because one of my first instructors said it was best I guess it is a good thing I only wash my jumpsuit when it tries to kill me in my sleep "... this ain't a Nerf world."

I think morris pulled a muscle in my head. Flying a lot of tandem video, I expect my UV exposure to be greater than most jumpers so I ordered the heavy stuff for my Stiletto 89. I hope that doesn't make a huge difference but having jumped a small Viper with Dacron lines, I think it will be fine. I just have to get used to covering my lines in the landing area. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Just FYI for those that are bashing the new rating system, both of those instructors were very current and trained under the old AFF program. It is a good reminder we have to constantly work to stay ahead of the curve. I am glad no one was injured. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

That is obvious. At least after you said it Why not take a matching piece of velcro and cover the part you don't use instead of cutting it off? Then if you or a future owner want to go to a d-ring handle you can. I keep considering a hard handle myself but haven't changed as of yet. As far as what I would do, it is hard to say in the heat of the moment. I think pulling the reserve is by far the safest bet since you can't know how far the pin has moved. Just my opinion though. I am glad your choice worked out for you. I would have considered that as an option as well. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Your profile doesn't say where you are but have you called them and spoken to someone on the phone. I like to shop online but they have been very helpful when I have phoned them. Sorry to hear you are having trouble but I expect they will fix it. Good luck, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Am I correct that you are talking about screwing up the eval dives during the rating course? It is my understanding you can screw up on one jump in the course and still complete it. All dives don't go as planned but I can't imagine doing AFF's if I didn't think I had earned the rating. As far as people who require the built in second chance in the course, I have seen videos of very good instructors getting separated from the student. Their skill shows in how fast they get back but no one is invincible. I believe you when you say you have the video. I think all the course directors have their own collection of real student jumps gone bad that they use to impress the seriousness of these jumps. It reinforces the procedures to see what they are in place to prevent. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

I hear rumors of courses like that but still have yet to see video of them. Are you sure you weren't watching a practice jump? I am not sure there is a course director out there that would allow it. People get awfully quiet when asked for names. Vague accusations are easy to make and hard to defend against. That doesn't make them any more valid. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

PD Challenge Swoop Comp – Cross Keys Invasion
icevideot replied to chayes12's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Your seat cushion doubles as a flotation device...at least until the sharks come. Then it doubles as a bobber! (fisherman's cork or float for any of you that don't know what a bobber is.) "... this ain't a Nerf world." -
PD does not make them nor recommend them for the Stiletto because they have not done their typical, thorough testing on the combination. I have a lot of respect for that. Of course, Mel at skyworks rigging built a set for my Stiletto 89 on Sat. Hopefully I can catch up with him in a couple of weeks to get them installed. He is in pretty high demand because of the quality of his work. As soon as I get a few dozen jumps on the new lines I will post how I like them. If they are good enough for the Katana, I am comfortable putting them on my Stiletto. Cheers, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Lol. I had a lot of pm's and emails to call Mel. He does great work but I am impressed with how many referrals he got. I did 3 jumps on Fri and I think the packjobs were good. Line stretch and the first stage of the snivel look as good as a Crossfire. As soon as inflation begins, the slider comes down so fast I can't really see it move! It is up and then it is down and the canopy is flying. In slow motion the slider seems to move at what I consider to be a normal to fast speed for real time video. I am confident this is caused by the upper steering lines having shrunk enough to make the setting very deep when stowed. The lowers have been replaced so they are long enough to make it fly quite nicely. Mel built my HMA line set Sat but he is busy so it will be a couple of weeks before I can get them installed. I missed a lot of money because after Friday, I thought jumping Sat was a bad idea. My neck is a bit jacked up and the dz had a great day. I guess I will be putting my 97 back on risers until I get the lineset installed. After I have had them for a while I will post how I like the lines. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=118754;search_string=line%20dump;#118754 This thread explains it fairly well. I hadn't seen darkwing's relpy when I wrote this. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

I really suspected as much but I thought he was awfully hard on her in a public forum as he pointed out himself. If he knows the people involved he could speak to them and not all of us. The whole two wrongs don't make a right and all that jazz. I never really bought into the do as I say not as I do. I realize I have a lot to learn and I am always trying to do so. Of course presentation is important, whether it be one of us dealing with a student or a more experienced instructor sharing his wisdom. I really do wish everyone a wonderful Turkey Day. Let's go work on our fall rates. Cheers, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Sounds like a solid plan to me. I haven't really worked with Tandem/AFF progression yet but it sounds like it should work. Once you have had time to evaluate it, let us know what you learned. Happy Holidays, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."

I would have been hesitant to ask this on the forum too, due to the nature of the crap you typically read on here. I have to say I have been impressed with the way it has been treated by everyone who has answered. At least until now. I haven't noticed anyone trying to figure out who the involved party is. I don't even think they care. I know I don't. I now have more insight concerning possible reasons and thought paths that could cause this. I think anyone who takes this that personally has deeper issues. There isn't much on your profile but it doesn't say you are an Instructor so you may not understand how seriously we take safety as well as teaching. If you are an instructor then I don't know why you seem so upset by this. Have a great Thanksgiving. Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."

This thing sounds like fun. You guys make me want to come play.

Lots of students use them, and maybe a few people with certain disabilities I would guess. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Seems like a strong pilot chute could snatch the bag out of the container and leave stows that loose laying in the container. I defer to Mr Booth's article on pilot chutes when he mentioned stows. As for my reserve, I could hang my freebag up for hours and my lines would not "just fall out". I am not saying your way is wrong, it just goes against some things I have been told. After all, we are folding a car cover into a napsack and throwing it into a hurricane.... How much control do we have and how much of it depends on the engineering and design of the equipment? I am glad you found a method you are happy with. Peace "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Vignetting in RFCONCEPTS 2.9mm bullet cam.

I have never used these but starting the recording with the remote then sticking it in your jumpsuit might help with the above problem. "... this ain't a Nerf world." -
Okay, so who here can explain what line dump is? You could also pack it like a BASE rig and remove the slider and speed it up even more I would love to video it but I open high enough to like comfortable, staged deployments. To each his own. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

What if you were on the front of a Tandem and the pilot in command used the reserve? I am not sure of the protocol here. "... this ain't a Nerf world."

Just a question. Did these breaks occur on opening or landing? "... this ain't a Nerf world."

That is a brilliant idea. I have never heard of it before but I am going to try and sell it at our dz. Thanks "... this ain't a Nerf world."
