Any other Krav Maga practioners out there? A new class is just being founded near me so me and a few other guys from work are going to start. I love the simple philosophy, it fits hand in hand with our own self defence training. Simple so you can remember it in the heat of the moment. Also not being so structured as martial arts, missing classes because of shift work wont be such a big disadvantage. Really looking forward to it. There is no Worldwide Krav Maga classes near me so instead we are going to Commando Crav Maga (CKM). WHatever the politics and validity of the claims of the founders, its still effective. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xhKjpdWyYMc

I'm working. No doubt I'll be chasing the little hoodlums round the estates as they get drunk and raise hell... ... I wouldn't have it any other way!
-
Thats a bit inconvenient to carry around with you

I can feel a DZ.com revolution coming. People are fed up with the dickheads

I think there is a happy medium to be found somewhere. The trouble with politics in general is from high school to the highest level, these people never really get a grasp of real life. It's certainly true over here anyway. Privately educated posh boys who make their way through life but really don't have a clue what "normal" life is for the people they represent.

As nice as those qualities are they don't neccesarily make for a good leader. Sometimes you need someone a little bit detached to be able to make decisions without distraction.

2008 was the year man-made global warming was disproved
Scoop replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Who cares. The worlds climate goes from extremes during its life cycle. It'll do just fine evolving.... ... whether humans are still about when that happens is another matter THE WORLD WILL STILL EXIST WITHOUT US. WE WONT 'KILL' THE PLANET -
You might want to look at this. Looks like could be ideal. Fairly cheap too so ideal for first rig as will probably sell and look to buy again when you know what you want from the sport discipline and canopy wise: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=71084;d=1 It's an old dolphin. I've never really had a good look at one but I understand they aren't very secure for freeflying. This could be a myth so have a good look at the reviews and start forming a relationship with one of your local riggers to bounce questions off and seek advice. Hope that helps

You are right Tony. I was going to suggest the OP read the material available in the safety section of the website but its so out of date it talks about round reserves still Yes, at some point you will need to talk to your instructor before making that decision to buy however I enjoyed my 210 Silhouette canopy. I loaded it just over 1:1 and found it fun but really steady and easy to control. Dependent on your canopy experience and skill level you might also like that or might be more suited to something sportier or maybe even more tame. Thats when you need the opinion of someone who knows you to help with that judgement. Cant do any harm to look under the "gear" tab in the dark blue bar and read some of the reviews.

Yes, stop fucking asking questions and go and buy a Papillion!
-
Surely it'll be nice for people have it one place then rather that trawl all the websites. Not useful

According to one of the Speakers Corner threads about the WTC collapse we have lots of building experts on here!
-
Yup! It's especially funny when the topic is so specific like a particular canopy vs another canopy so you wouldn't think to search and someone pipes up saying didn't you know someone posted that topic back in 2003!!! Like you're the idiot Imagine how rude it would be if you asked in general conversation (In the real wordl!!) how to do something and some 3rd party who needn't have commented chips in the discussion with "just look it up" or "god, we've had this discussion before". Also when people start saying "this sport is dangerous and you're buying life saving equipment. Why discuss it on the internet blah blah" what they are really doing is just ego-stroking by reminding themselves how cool they are. People, the beauty of forums such as this is to allow discussion. If you don't want to discuss then simply STFU. The old saying "if you haven't got anything good to say don't say nothing" should apply here.

I would lik esome information on landings please?
Scoop replied to joanne123's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm sure if you went to local DZ and explained your concerns they would let you have a go practicing a few PLFs (Parachute Landing Falls) which is the term for adding a bit of control and absorbing energy on a hard landing. Some DZs have posh fan trainers where you will glide down on a wire at a simulated rate, others may make you jump off a platform. I'm sure any good DZ would let you try that before you spend your hard earned on a course. Also maybe a tandem would be a good first step for you? -
He is reaching for the grip and his knees are a bit low.............

Yeah but skydivers do that too! -
I guess now you know why cyclists, runners and other athletes train at altitude! More red blood cells!

I'm sure it probably could be done but I'm not sure I could take my hook knife out under that stress, at terminal freefall speed against the relative wind, with gloves on and still have the dexterity. I'd probably unpop the pocket on my jumpsuit and watch the hook knife fly away the moment I tried to remove it.

Come and join me for a post Christmas dog walk...

Very cool pics. Thats some nice countryside you got there -
Yeah, I bought the components for a new computer which built couple of weeks ago and for my birthday in March I got a rig coming Noone knows me quite like me!
-
I should have some super sweet custom embroidery on my new rig when its done... I will wait for the great unveiling though and neccesary beer purchase

I've landed off a few times and its ended up being quite fun BUT only because it all went fine. I think one of the important things is having that confidence and good judgement to recognise you won't get back to the designated PLA early and find an alternative safe area while you still have lots of time. When people try to make it then at the last minute have to avoid trouble is when accidents happen. A good DZ briefing should tell you of any local dangers you should be aware of if landing out.

Ahh, its different over here. The offence is driving whilst over the prescribed limit and police don't need a reason to pull people over. If you're on a road then you can have you 'documents checked' at any time. If they then smell alcohol on your breath or if you have performed a moving traffic offence they can make a requirement for a breath test. Failure to provide a specimen of breath is arrestable in itself and carries just the same penalty as a conviction for 'drink driving' EDIT TO ADD: We don't have quotas. But its very satisfying to get someone off the road who shouldn't be on there. Waiting until they've had an accident and killed someone isn't very good now is it.

How many people that you have had sex with do you keep in touch with?
Scoop replied to CSpenceFLY's topic in The Bonfire
Just 1. It was a really good thing that just didn't end up working out. Nothing nasty brought it to an end so we are still in touch. Is definately a bit weird when we are together though. Still something there... dangerous -
You know how many sloppily written, mis-spelt letters you're going to receive now on dodgy looking hospital headed paper from skydivers? "We regret to inform you...."
