Digging or not? What makes the difference?
selwynj replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You basically want to allow the canopy to reach level flight on its own. Your turn should be high enough for this to happen. This period of level flight will only be reached after your last input to the canopy has been done and 4-5 seconds have passed. This will however differ from canopy to canopy, wingloading steepness of the dive etc. My advice will be to find a capable canopy pilot and have a long chat to him, because there is much more to this than meets the eye. If you get it wrong you WILL HURT YOURSELF. What canpoy? What altitude? what wingloading? “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA -
Just purchased a X-Brace. Had line twist on the first 5 jumps and spinning. Had a reserve ride and took it to a rigger to change the steering line stows. Moved these up to the canopy 6cm and now it opens great and on heading. Done about 65 jumps on this since. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

X-Brace at 450 jumps? I was under the impression you could not jump these untill 500 ram air canopy jumps. Did you buy this from PD? “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

I've had a protrack 4 years and an optima for +-1 year. I love both. I use both as audible's and use the swoop corridor on the optima. Works great. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

Thanks. I will continue this there. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

Can some of the more expierienced canopy pilots please post how to setup for 450 turns; 530 turns etc. Where should the gates be in relation to your setup? Also what type of turn ie: leg strap, front risers, both. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

I have done this but not so low to the ground. I used my rear riser after coming out of a turn. If you play the first video and stop where he initiates the turn you will see the RH rear of the canopy flair. I must add that I don't think that this should be attempted at normal flying speed or a low wing loading. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

Cleaned mine and my wife's last night. Last cleaned 3 months ago and have done +- 100 jumps since then. Released the 3 rings and massaged the webbing near the 3-rings. I certainly did not know that these become hard as I saw last night. Thanks for the info. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

Thanx for the info. I will pass this on to him and hopefully he will start jumping. I'll send him for a tandem first. “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA

Hi there all, I was wondering if there are any skydivers out there that are blind in one eye? How does this affect your landings? Does this allow you to progress to smaller canopies? My brother has sight in one eye only, but has asked me about skydiving. He has a microlight pilot licence and and flies model jet aircraft. Any suggestions? “It takes ten years to get ten years’ experience” Eric "tonto" Stephenson D515 PASA
