I can't wait to be next!! Presently, at only 72 jumps I'll be waiting in the nest for a bit longer. But, I'm definitly planning to give flying my all. Stacey was kuhl enough to send along her wingsuit workout so I can be buff and ready when I hit the magic number. I'm psyched!!

All of the advice given so far has been excellent. The question you ask cannot be answered in any subjective manner. Using the "checklist"... of Seven Things to do Before you Downsize", you have some objective method to assess your skills. May I add the suggestion that taking a canopy control class with your CURRENT canopy and gaining further objective measures would be a very helpful adjunct to your decision. I was told that you should nail all of the requirements for C license, CONSISTENTLY, before you are advised to try downsizing. Also, does your DZ have anything resembling a swoop club or canopy control practice? You can learn so much by watching others and working on accuracy. I took his course at 28 jumps. I was having some trouble with my landings. He pointed out several issues with landing mistakes in general. I didn't have circumstance to use a lot that day, and stood all my landings during the eval jumps --Figures! But, I've stood every landing since. I do Russian Radar differently now... and I practice a variety of canopy situations at high altitude to better experience my canopy. I plan to take it again... especially when I'm ready to downsize... (i.e. a loooong time from now

This document is a must read on this issue. I just attended Jon La Blanc's lecture on this exact issue based upon person experience and that study. Please Note: Jon made it clear that this is what he would do, as he is not issuing formal recommendations. Three main take-aways were: 1) Don't unstow your brakes on either canopy. Steer instead very gently with rear risers.(side by side-don't touch the far right or left risers... use inside rear to nudge the other canopy along, i.e. turn left with the (left) rear riser of the canopy on the right) 2) Don't cutaway from any stable configuration. Just from downplanes. 3) Don't flair at all. You have additional canopy overhead, and can just prepare for your finest PLF. I can't cover his whole lecture here nor do I have that permission. But, if you can attend at any safety day he gives anexcellent review. Including reserve size issues, etc... I've been a rider for years, but don't find the time much since I started jumping. One of my neighbors has 15 horses of varying breeds and I am welcome to exercise them anytime. It is nice, but unfortunately they are primarily trail riders. I don't get much speed for long. Thought I would want to own because I come from a horse breeding family (for harness racing). Have owned on paper so that they could race here... But, now no time to invest, and $$ goes to the jumping!! Beautiful animals though..
