no it is more of a way to slow down your sit as your are flying it in your 90s right? aka you want to have your thighs spread in a 90 degree angle. the angle between thigh and calves is 90 and upper body is around 90... then to slow down you basically kick your knees in to add more drag... Sabre 135 w/ 25 jumps ~ 1.4 WL
dharma1976 replied to Kimblair13's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
not wrong at all do you want pictures of my scar and flosting bone pieces from last year to show him... btw I now load at 1.33 after another 250 jumps, but back then no good... I guess the invincible young jumpers dont like to let fact interfere with there opinion eh? What WLing did you start swooping at?
dharma1976 replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
sabre2 170 started with double fronts worked through 180s and then moved to the 150 sabre2 as the riser pressure got a little extreme as I lost weight... Good canopy for learning to swoop?
dharma1976 replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
f-ing awesome canopy to learn to swoop on... I will tell you this...I started swooping on a sabre 2 170... and when I got to the point where I could shut the thing down when I wanted to...then I contemplated downsizing and trying the elliptical platform...what I found was...I liked the crossfire2 awesome canopy...loved it, but not wanting to push it, I stayed with the sabre2 and lost 20 sq feet. but learn the sabre2 135 first... believe me if I can swoop the balls out of a 170, you should be able to swoop the balls out of a sabre2 135... Cheers blues and lets keep our insides where they belong... so, this is true? i'd heard that everythings easier when going faster. well, obviously not docking as the wind speed pushing on arms is then awfully strong. Thank you very much for your input & encouragement! Now I just gotta go do it! What did I do to go slower? Legs are in a wide V & I bend/flex my ankles so feet are almost 90degrees (think of hanging from your ankles) oh & practiced a bunch (lots of solos logged here!) thats just the fast guys trying to compensate... hey with my slim cut merlin and not flying in a full split, I can chill out relaxed at 148 or fly in the 190s its all about the range and flying with who your flying with... I jump with 90 lb people and I fly with 220 lb people I guess you have to get comfortable with them all eh? I once heard somewhere that flying head down is t like the zen concept of the fish in the river ;) relax and flow with it or something... but I worked throught the burn already and I know union carpenteres that complain about their hips hurting the next day so thats normal... Cheers and blues Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

yeah I have a bunch of friends who can fly head down but can really fly fett down... I love flying feet down... I love flying head down I even love back flying and belly flying too... but hey to work on hybrids dont you need belly skills? and autmonauti seems to be another choice we have been doing lately keep it on all the angles and positions and then you are a good freeflier ;) cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

although I agree, and I can fly in a tshirt and a set of carhartt pants, my question was more wondering if he was wearing very draggy clothes that might hinder his speed RANGE... a valid point, I am sure you will agree... what kinda suit are you jumping... I know that I average about 150-155 in a sit, around 168 in a head down... I fly a merlin suit that they built up for me which is slim cut with double layers on it for drag... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

go here briangermain.com and find a course near you, and then ask brian about his accident will 20 times your jump numbers... also buy the book he sells, after I broke my fibula and crushed my ankle bone into dust I did the smart thing, upsized, bought this book and slowed the f down... the second before I hit these thoughts went through my mind a. why didnt I listen to everyone b. am I going to die c. am I going to be in a wheelchair d. oh god this is going to hurt. and then I bounced... and all that feeling of invincibility left and I laughed because I could feel my legs and I was not dead. Please... take your time, keep your blood and bones in your body, and stay alive, its the only way to get good in this sport. Rushing will only lead to pain and hospital bills (fibula surgery is about 15K these days, and thats if you get lucky) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

nice post! and read brian germains book a parachute and its pilot so you might maybe just understand the wing you are flying and how it works before you make mistakes based on ignorance saved my ass a few times ;) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

hey man, I get it, the nurses started to get sick of me in the ER they were like this is serious you know.... even better is cursing out the entire surgery staff when you come out of anesthesia... I tried a crossfire2 two days ago loved it...but watching a medivac leave a dropzone is always a big bummer on the day, so I'll stick to my sabre2 170 for now ;) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

do you actually only have 100 someodd jumps or am I imagining things... how about this, look at my friends incident in the incidents forum and then think about it. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1125536;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Swooping.....people are different!!!!!!!
dharma1976 replied to perse's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
yeah I spent the winter letting my titanium settle in and reading brian germains book... man even through the perkacete (sic) brians writing made sense...and then I read it again and again and again and again... it changed the way I fly my canopy... changed the way I rushed things changed the way I approach every landing... I reccomend it to anyone interested in swooping for the first time especially at 200 jumps...isnt there a great passage in the book about brian breaking his back at 300 jumps? Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
I noticed this about it which I did not like 640K video 320 with external optic... but for someone who just wants a quick fix on seeing thier perpective, it is 400 something dollars on ebay or so I saw. Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

dharma1976 replied to perse's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
yeah and then there was my friend, who was all af the above and was getting so much coaching and I even heard a pro swooper say that he thought that he was going to be on the circuit at some point, and he is now in a wheel chair... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
actually if you talk to icarus, they will not sell you the crossfire until you have 500 jumps period the end, that is there policy cause they are sick of hearing all the but I did this and I did that and then reading about that guy in the incident reports cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

I have been to skydive arizona twice now for stays of 2 weeks plus...I had a great time there and knocked out a lot of jumps there, the staff is awesome, the jumpers fun and the sky big... The airplanes are awesome... basically go here, it is great...

I learned at the ranch and have a special place in my heart for it. I love jumping here during the week, but tend to migrate to another dropzone for the weekend rushes... also turbulance is a big issue here, but it is so worth sitting out around 1 to jump the rest of the time ;)

I have been to zhills twice now and really enjoyed jumping there...met some great people and had a lot of pickup jumpers to chill with, sometimes a little wet...but hey thats florida, but there is not much to do in the immediate area...
