Run a garden hose down the hole and turn it on. They will come out. Then you either have to catch them or shoot them. Personally, I prefer a higher caliber than the 22, such as a 357. I did once. At about 1000 jumps with a conservative wing loading of about 1:1. I had a left brake line become unstowed during opening, and wrapped around the top of the riser, with the ear part of the toggle trapped between some lines with tension on it. I opened in a turn, but not a bad one. I reached up to try to untangle it, but there was too much tension, and when I tried to pull the riser down to work on it, I went in to more of a turn. I then cleared the right brake, and managed to fly straight. Could I have landed that? Probably, and with a good plf would have been ok, although it was about 3/4 brakes the whole way. Could I have chopped it and landed my reserve safely? Yes. But I chose to hold my right toggle in my right hand to fly straight, hold my left toggle in my left hand and reach across with my right and cut the steering line just above the toggle. The toggle came off in my hand, the steering lines slipped on through and trailed behind, and I steered on into the landing area and rear riser flared. But I had it all done by about 1800 ft. The repair cost me $00.00 and about twenty minutes, as opposed to reserve repack possible and loss of free bag, but that was not the determing factor. It was just the right decision for me at the time. Different wing loadings, experience , and opening altitudes would certainly make a difference. I was jinxed! Before loading the plane for that jump, a nonjumper had asked me what the hook knife was for and if I had ever used it before. It is mostly up to the owner, and how the dog is trained. The scariest dog I ever came face to face with was a Great Dane. The most affectionate and friendly dog I ever saw with anyone was my Great Dane. The only dog that ever attacked me was a Spitz. We rescued a half dead Pit mix from a dumpster years ago, and he was great with me and my family. But we wanted him to be a watch dog, and he was a good one. Yet he never bit anyone or attacked anyone.(I was heartbroken when I had to put him down last year). Point is, it is mostly the training. If you take a 12 week old puppy, and spend enough time with it, it will do well. Different breeds have different instincts, but that can be overcome. Thanks for the input Scott. We have jumpers from all age groups and experience levels. From FSU students to geezers(sorry Mr Bill). From 1 jump to 7000 or so jumps. That's what makes it fun(and interesting sometimes). We will be out this week end provided I get back in from Baltimore. A good friend of ours is getting a tandem jump for his son, we would like to see it. Another great weekend of jumping at the School of Human Flight. Weather was a little iffy on Saturday but Sunday was absolutely beautiful. Contrary to what I have heard lately, "all" the jumpers have not left here. We have a talented, seasoned group of belly flyers, and we had some great 4 and 6 way jumps on Sunday. A good bit of our core jumpers were there, along with a few new faces. The silly flyers (freeflyers) were there too doing that thing they do. Tandems and students were present. All in all, a fun weekend. It was great to see Christain and Tiffany, ya'll come around more often!
