That is AWESOME. Posted previously or not, thanks for posting it now. I had not viewed this before. Kudos Paulo, great piloting skills amigo.

Absolutely try sit flying! With 39 jumps gotta presume you're stable, in control and able to roll over into belly position. Pay for someones slot and have them give you some instruction and go out with you for critique. Its best to have a Dytter or Pro Track as veiwing your altimeter will be very difficult/impossible when in the sit position (until you learn balance and can shift your arms). Otherwise, you'll get into a sit fly and have to bail early to check your altitude.

Kudos to the Sunshine Factory! I purchased both my rigs through them. Wonderful to work with and they went above and beyond to get me new gear when a bozo docked on me hard enough to remove my helmut (pro track equipped). Joannie is the best, plus shes attractive to boot! Thanks for being you Joannie....

Don't buy it. Get yourself a decent used rig, plenty are available. Don't settle for student gear. If equipped with AAD that would also be "student". Don't need 2 canopies out if you dive a hard turn below 1000'

Where to put my rig on flight to Florida?
jaybo replied to Chrisky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Contact knowledgeable airline representative to get policy details and try to alleviate the hassle. Carry on definitely! Parachutist had an article about securing rig handles to prevent accidental deployment. Check with them for the correct procedure and or issue #. Good luck and we'll see you in Lake Wales. -
Contemplating buying my first rig
jaybo replied to bluewaterstream's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Get the rig, NOW, especially if the price is right. Having it doesn't mean you cant rent a 260 or a 230 to jump a few times first. Yes, its a big step down and youre aware of this... The relation between size and flight aspect is not directly proportional. The aspect increases geometrically. This ratio becomes much more apparent in the under 200 sqft canopies and downward. A 210 at your exit weight is good choice. Plan on flying it for a few years. By the time your ready to downsize from there your container will likely need replacing as well (so don't worry about that). So try out that 260 or 230 for some jumps first and don't let the allure of your brand new rig override your common sense. Better to be jumping than reading old issues of Parachutist while recovering. -
I have something in the DVD/Video player constantly, to the point the girlfriend exhales loudly and goes into another room to read! (last night as a matter of fact). Hell, I make my family and friends watch skydiving vids...and I rewind to check out exit position, transitions...whatever!

Fear and flying with skydivers questions please.

Quoteok now stick to reading and not posting. I'm with you on this one! -

A friend was jumping with her sisters custom frap hat and it came off once she reached terminal. Shes freaking because the $300 price to replace and completely screws up the 4-way. Her sister is pissed because no points were turned (didn't care about the frap at the moment) and my friend is trying to justify the loss of concentration. A guy walks into the hanger and asks "who left their frap hat in the pea?" Good spot or what?!

Well, BravestDog, I'd say that pretty much sums it up...NO to DRUGS/ALCOHOL...until the beer light comes on. And at least one person touched on (IF you can't get a good enough buzz from jumping...theres something very very wrong with you).

Kim, Nice heads up in an emergency situation! Don't let anyone give you s_ _ _ about dropping the handles! Chances are most lower number jumpers will drop handles in a similar situation (myself included, yet to find out though). Did you recover your free bag?

Why does any self respecting jumper entertain these films as worthy to watch? (No offense Bill, your the best). The exception being XXX, I'd like to have been to the Bridge for that one. Get films made by skydivers for skydivers.

Regarless of the spelling, a Thailand skidiving adventure sounds pretty exciting (except for the flight time). In lieu of Thailand, we have the SoBe boogie this weekend and thats something to look forward to...and the South Florida fair. Trust me that one of these events is a lot more interesting than the other. But next month were heading to flyangel2's part of the planet for a little boarding adventure...that should be awesome!

What's the real story on Amelia Island DZ?
jaybo replied to oldfart's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was curious to see what DZ was on Amelia Island and checked this thread. Thanks for filling me in on Mike, last time I saw him....well you guys know. After the fund raiser never heard any news and its great that he's jumping again. -
Thank you for sharing and congrats! Very well written and fun to read.Your one of "us" now and always will be. Karl...hmmm, I expect he'll be taking some heat for this one.

Double Congrats. Pretty rough Hop n' Pop... Years from now when your on the Pro Beach Swooping tour your response to the bio when asked "What kind of student where you" would be....? Tell em you were a complete natural, all of us on this forum can keep a secret...Right?

Saber 2 is all that and more, also snivels longer for a softer opening. So dont pull too low, 500' snivels are common and I've had a couple 700'.

__________________________________________________ I am always scared until I leave the plane. Then the fear disappears. I can't explain it. I guess I realize that I can't get back into the plane. __________________________________________________ Ain't that the truth! Did you read the thread where someone named the door the Gaping Maw of Hell? Maybe thats a little much, but ya gotta love the excitment of the first jump of the day. Watching the RW folks leave first, feeling the plane buck up with their departure. It's almost time to go...moving back to the door....it's clear...spots good.... Man, I'm too amped to continue typing, better get back to work.

I'm feeling for you all. Especially those of you hit by that artic blast in North America this week. I made the move to Florida 3 years ago from New England and love it. It doesn't take long to acclimate to the warmer climate. So next month when a group of us are in Colorado boarding, we are going to freeze our tails off. Wishing you guys an early spring, if not, visit us down here...you won't want to leave!

I'm continually pleased with the support skydivers lend one another. Kudos to all. We all read the incident reports, this forum and question ourselves and our choice of activities. Self preservation is numero uno. I look at the statistics, specifically the pie chart USPA issues and view the huge slice made up of jumpers under good cloth. The writings on the wall and its emphasized in the previous responses. I've been told "it usually isn't one poor choice that gets you, but a combination of less favorable choices". I forgot to turn my AAD on once and following advice given me, sucked up my machismo and rode the plane down. Plus, I had promised friends I would never jump without one.(Tommy Piras would probably be with us today had he not forgot to turn his on). Hope your heart keeps you in the sport.

About time... I waited close to a year past its originally intended DVD release date, couldn't wait anymore and settled for the VHS format (no complaints, its awesome everytime I watch). So come on Patrick, were all waiting on your next film...

I guess I lead a sheltered life, never had a true zero g experience (in a jump plane that is). I'm wondering about clearing the aircraft? How about on the previous mentioned raft jump? Can anyone comment?
