Terminal dive? Deploy drogue from terminal?
-
Well, unless you have some kind of cyborg technology with I don't see how I'll be able to view the video in your head. :P My back is finally starting to get to the point where I can think about heading to the DZ. Hopefully within the next month or so.

Douva's summary is pretty much correct. My version of events is posted at http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1419921 Anyone happen to have video of my crash and burn? I'd love to see it.

No feet as in my feet? :)
-
Sounds like a plan, though I probably won't be out to Eloy again until next year's boogie.
-
Unfortunately I had to be in Dallas Sunday. I thought I was going to get my cousin to jump on Monday, but he wussed out. Didn't find that out until pretty late though, so it wasn't worth trying to make it back to jump.
-
Yes, it's Heath.
-
Yes, it's Kim. And I'm pretty sure that the last two times I saw them, they were rings of some kind. Maybe she has both. Maybe she'll wear both! I'm sure she'll tape them or something.
-
Yeah, I briefly looked at the points they wanted you to be able to turn before taking the class and it certainly does look quite challenging. If I'm lucky enough to be near a tunnel sometime soon I think I'll put my $$ into that first.

Yeah, as I mentioned last weekend I thought there was no way I was ready, then this weekend I realized I probably could offer useful advice to some of the people I'm jumping with. That's really my only incentive at this point; if I'm jumping with someone and see something they can improve on I'd like to feel confident in being able to coach them about what I saw. It seems to me that it's not quite the same offering advice to someone with 30 or 50 jumps who probably just needs a pointer here or there vs coaching someone who just got off AFF. I really want to be able to help those I jump with, but I also want to make sure I'm not inadvertently doing them a disservice. I already talked to one of our S&TA's about this and he said he'd be happy to play student for me and that as long as I'm only giving advice on what I know to be true it's not a problem, so maybe I'll just go that route for now and hold off on the rating until I'm a more seasoned skydiver.

Yes, should happen Saturday; probably in the morning. I'm at 97 jumps and Kim's planning on matching that Friday, so we should have 2 practice jumps before our 100th.
-
Actually, I believe they are rings. We already have one person at the DZ who now sports a 'gimple', we don't need any more; I'm pretty sure she'll be taking them out or taping them.

I'm thinking I don't want to land in the corn field naked...
-
1) I'd be more worried about a misplaced grip and being the 'hangee' ;) 2) Good idea! I was thinking about wearing a towel under the harness but the tear-away pants sound like a much safer and better idea. 3) Screw the shorts! :)

I assume you mean the coaches course?
-
Myself and a fellow jumper are soon to hit the magic 100. Somehow, aside from doing our 100th jumps together, the idea came up to do it naked. She's much slower than I am, so we're planning on doing some kind of hybrid. We're planning on doing a practice jump or two with me in shorts & tshirt and her in her new spandex suit. Any advice? (Other than don't do it, which I can understand where I'm concerned... ;P)

I'm wondering when most people got their coach rating. I realized last weekend that I was fast approaching 100 jumps and that I didn't feel at all qualified to be coaching someone. Yesterday I realized that I was noticing things someone with about 50 jumps could do better, which was a bit of a surprise to me. Part of this is my number of jumps is a bit misleading; I've only been jumping about 6 months. I imagine there's probably other people with 100 jumps who have a lot more experience than I do. It's unlikely I'll head to another DZ to do a coaches course, and we probably won't have one until the end of summer, so I could easily end up with 150+ jumps by the time that comes around. I'm just wondering what the experience of other coaches is like leading up to their coach rating.

My most recent stupid move was putting the canopy into a tree. I cut base too short and was going way long on a no-wind day. I'd been doing some toggle turns trying to bleed off altitude and finally got low enough I figured I should turn back into the pattern. Of course being a no-wind day and little if any other traffic (and me being rather far away from the pea's), I should have just chosen a different heading that would take me back to a clear area. Instead I landed with the canopy in a tree. Ooops. Disclaimer: Just because this is what I would have done don't take it as advice. I'm not even a 100 jump wonder yet. My most embarassing stupid move was on around jump 40. I tracked too long; looked at my altimeter while in track and saw 2800. Instead of dumping immediately I stopped the track and then waved off. IIRC I was in the saddle by 1600 feet. Got myself grounded for that move. Morale: altitude awareness (duh), and don't blindly follow routine when there's a damn good reason not to.

You studied? My jump prep never started more than 1/2 hour before my jumps and never lasted more than 20 minutes or so (except for level 2 of course).
-
I was having lots of hard openings with a Sabre 230 (actually, at least 2 of them, both rental gear). I finally started split-rolling the nose about 5 or 6 rolls and that mostly took care of the openings. Yesterday I jumped a Triathalon 210 for the first time... MUCH softer openings.
-
What was your most expensive jump?????
Decibel replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Man, talk about time-value of money. My ground school/level 2 cost $210, which is more than much of what was posted. Actually, I paid for all of AFF up-front and got a 10% discount, so I guess it was actually only $189 if you want to count that way. Luckily I've yet to break, lose, or cutaway anything. Hopefully it stays that way! -
Congrats! SSM's SCR cerimony is this weekend; I guess that'll be the final part of making mine official. SCR-14570, CRS-2, A-44670

I used to use packers almost exclusively until last weekend when we were suddenly down to two packers (one of which does only the tandems). Luckily, after about a dozen pack jobs I'm down to around 20 minutes, so it's really not that big a deal. Once we have more packers again I'll have to see; it's damn nice to be able to relax between loads, but it's also nice being good enough that I can get myself on a load when the packers are busy.

Maybe the sex is happening during freefall, though I suspect that would create a unique perspective about which is better.

Ugh... that was *BAD*
