Who said nothing that comes from the government can't be believed? Did you mean to use a double negative there? Your question is meaningless. Your attitude appears to be believe anything that agrees with your preconceived opinion, and disbelieve anything that conflicts with your preconceived opinion. That is not a good basis for a discussion.

There have been remarkably few mutinies in our armed forces, and in general the troops involved are severly punished to act as an example. This is followed by a quiet investigation of why they disobeyed. In general a legitimate problem has been found somewhere up the chain of command.

So what's that in Kilojoules - for those of us who live in the world? You do know that the calorie is a metric unit, right? 1 cal = heat energy to raise 1g of water from 14.5 to 15.5 C. 1J = 1 watt of power for 1 second. Because calories were measured by burning food, I suspect that is why we continue to use it. I wonder how one would measure directly in joules. Also to clarify - when we refer to calories it nearly always means kilocalories. 1kcal = 4.19kJ Metric, but not SI. It is an obsolete unit, replaced by Joules. I noticed that MacDonalds posted a 38% increase in sales over the last quarter.

So was the Warren Commission. If nothing coming out of the government can be believed, why do you believe anything Bush and his spin doctors say?

Maybe flawed education policy that puts college tutition + room and board out of the reach of many Americans has something to do with this. Maybe grants and scholarships should be targeted at certain majors instead of across the board. If you visit almost any science or engineering research lab in the US you will find as many Asians and Europeans as Americans there.

I realize that "your brain hurts" to quote your avatar, but where did Kallend make an endorsement for Kerry?

Nice cut and paste job. However, everything prior to the return of the inspectors is moot. Once Blix and his team were back in country, we were getting new intel. Unfortunately Bush didn't like what they were saying (and we now know it was the truth). Bush told them to get out, ignored their report, and invaded. Clinton, Albright, Edwards, Kerry etc. had NOTHING to do with that (poor) decision. -
The Chicago Tribune is often accused by conservatives of being "liberal", yet it endorsed Bush in 2000. In fact, throughout its long history it has endorsed way more Republicans than Democrats. I think conservatives just use the term "liberal" to describe anything they don't like, regardless of whether it has real bias.

During a dire emergency? I've seen it done too, prior to take-off.

Did John Kerry get a less than honorable discharge?
penniless replied to chuckbrown's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, several times. In Paris as well as Hanoi. Kissinger did it under the authority of President Nixon. That's not how Kerry did it. He, as a Naval reservist, did not have governmental authority to meet with, negotiate with, or transact dealings with, the North Vietnamese. Ciels- Michele Oh yes, Nixon. The HONORABLE Richard Nixon. -
Let us not forget that it was Dick Cheney, in direct contradiction to George Bush’s policy on gays and lesbians, who first came out and discussed his daughter's sexuality publicly while campaigning for George Bush. Lynne and Mary Cheney have both publicly discussed the fact that Mary is a lesbian while campaigning this year. They opened the door, and John Kerry had every right to comment on this in the context that he did. Mary Cheney was manager of Coors’s corporate relations for the gay and lesbian market, and has done public bar tours to promote Coors's beer to that market. She currently is paid a six figure salary to work on the Bush / Cheney Campaign. She's a highly paid member of the Bush Election Campaign and a fair target for comments. If you recall it was George Bush who earlier this year said that he wanted to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay and lesbian marriage, not John Kerry. You may also recall that in an attempt to get the gay and lesbian vote it was Dick Cheney who first publicly discussed that his daughter Mary is a lesbian while campaigning. George Bush, Dick Cheney, Lynne Cheney, and Mary Cheney can’t have it both ways. If they want to use Mary Cheney as a prop in an attempt to gain support from gay and lesbian voters, then Kerry has a right to discuss her sexual preference in the limited capacity in which he did.

Not being George Bush is a a major positive for Kerry. Bush has had 4 years as the "most powerful man in the world" with a Republican Congress at his beck and call, and he has messed up most everything he touched. The only positive I can think of for Bush is cleaning up Afghanistan, and then he did a half-ass job of that on account of his fixation with Iraq. Why didn't Bush follow through on his 2000 RNC speech where he made fixing Social Security his priority? Did Kerry stop him? There's no possible way that Kerry could be worse.

Regardless of what the President wants regarding guns or abortion, only the Supreme Court can actually do anything.

Louisiana is a "red" state. What are you implying about Bush supporters? (Actually the platoon has troops from Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi and South Carolina, ALL RED STATES.)

DNC memo urges activists to make thing up

But that intelligence came from an agency Bush controls and whose head reports to Bush and which, like any organization in the world, is influenced by political pressures from the boss. Further, Kerry voted to give Bush authority, he did not vote to go regardless of UNMOVIC reports of Iraqi compliance. -
Still living in the shadows of others, huh john? Was that called for?
-
Actually, no, he didn't. Edwards talked about it openly and Cheney thanked him for the comment, but Cheney never brought up his daughter's sexual orientation. I seem to remember that Cheney did publicly bring up the issue of his daughter's orientation just before the Republican convention. Anybody else remember that? Wayne The Kennedy kids, Johnson's daughter, Nixon's daughter, Amy Carter, Maureen and Ron Reagan, Chelsea Clinton were all subject to intense media scrutiny. Alexandra Kerry had her boobs shown around the world. If you don't want your family in the spotlight, you shouldn't run for high office.
