anyone been disapointed when received new gear?
frenchcloud replied to frenchcloud's topic in Gear and Rigging
it s only a question... i just wondered if that s something that happens sometimes. like the colours on the rig don t match exactly with what you ordered... or harness size problem despite giving your exact measurements ...or simply unexpected details. share. -------------------------------------------------- The tongue is NOT only a tool for speech! -

i just got a brand new aerodyne pilot 168. i have 3 jumps on it only. the opening is the most amazing i ve ever had. never have i experienced a smoothest opening and on heading! i found that the cells on the extremities took a little long to open though. what surprised me was the break lines length. under canopy i had to pull the toggle all the way down to feel a consequent turn. the extremty of the break lines (those attached to the canopy tail) floated way in the back when the toggles were left free. then i could pull on 8 inches on one of the toggle without feeling a turn at all.then, when i landed i had to roll some of the break lines around my hands to have enough range for a decent flare. i had the lines shortened last week end and jumped it again. the canopy now responds perfectly! has anyone experienced the same thing on that canopy? -------------------------------------------------- The tongue is NOT only a tool for speech!

frenchcloud replied to frenchcloud's topic in Events & Places to Jump
hi, i just arrived from paris, france in illinois where i m gonna spend this year at the university of illinois urbana champaign. i am a lost french skydiver lost in an unknown country. i know that rantoul convention statrs very soon and i m only a few miles from it. would there be anyone so nice to get in touch with me and eventually give me a lift to the convention...? i just hope i ll get to be present at least one day so i can write an article for my french skydiving website. i hope someone will hear me. thanks. patrick edit: I added the WFFC in the title so the right people might read it. ~Skymama -------------------------------------------------- The tongue is NOT only a tool for speech! -

packing all kinds of rigs
frenchcloud replied to frenchcloud's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i pack for my home dz in france all kinds of rigs and tandem rigs more than anything else. packing all day long means jump credits after!!! i m coming over to illinois next year and just wondered if it was possible to show up and ask if i can pack for them. i guess every dz has its own packers but sometimes an extra pair of hands can be useful. i think i ll go to any if it is close to the University i m going to. any wellknown places where they might need packers...? -------------------------------------------------- The tongue is NOT only a tool for speech! -

well, i m glad to come to u of ILLINOIS because i get to live in a different place, meet different people with whom i ll hopefully have interesting and original conversations. why am i coming? i got a job there. i ll be teaching french for 2 semesters. true, i ll be far from home but it s what i like. it s an amazing experience. i hope i ll make friends and travel around . i hope some of them will show me around like i ve done with all the american students i ve met in france. i already taught french at clark university, MA. i want to come back to the US but somewhere different so my eyes get to see different things. i wasn t a skydiver when i was in MA. know i m coming back and long to jump there. maybe we ll meet and jump together.

i must be unbiased when i write a review. i have not been charmed by this DZ! everything is just more expensive than anywhere else. this place is like a factory. people go and jump and pack and jump....so far so good. but there s no real friendship in the air. if you are just a student or a rookis in skydiving, this place is not for you. the AFF is just too expensive and it does not include personal packing courses. i have met someone there who has 45 jumps but still need to have his rig inspected 3 times when he packs his parachute. they didn t make him do take his B licence exam. he still jumps 230sqf. and ready...? when he took his skydiving classes before jumping, they forgot to teach him the term 'arrondi' which means 'pull the brake handles'!!! then on his first jump, as he approached the ground, waiting for instructions, the instructor shouted 'arrondi' several times on the walki talki but the guy just wondered what this term meant (i agree he is not very smart...) he just hit the ground full speed. he cracked his tail bone! could not even get up. they asked him why he did not 'ARRONDI' and he just replied what does that mean??? they realised they had forgotten this tiny detail. the best is to come. he had to go to the hospital by his own self. came back 2 weeks later and noone remebered what happened. they did not apologize or offer a few jumps for their mistake. however, they have the best parachutes i ve ever jumped. just atoms with silhouette canopies. what struck me was that on the first time i jumped one of their rig, which i rented, i dropped my pilote chute and... waited for the canopy to open. nothing moved and i got very woried...thinking of cutting away... it took maybe 1 or 2 seconds... i finally lifted my head to realize that my canopy was already flying perfectly! the opening had been so smooth and fluid i swear i did not notice it was open. nevertheless, lots of people go there skydiving. if you are experienced and have your own gear, you will like it. if you go with your own friends, you ll have fun. you don t really get to meet and find people to jump with you. they organise the boogie of vichy. they had a antonov 72 coming for the event. jumped from it...it rocks!

well, can t wait to be there for american french formation skydiving! -------------------------------------------------- The tongue is NOT only a tool for speech!
