I think someone else mentioned it before but I think "The Balls to the Wall Boogie" would be sweet. could pass it off as meaning something else to anyone not in the loop about what it's really refering to Anvile Brother #59

Any one from the new orleans houma thibodaux area?
Darminion replied to Bouda's topic in The Bonfire
I live in thibodaux but jump at Gold Coast. From people that I know that go out to NOSC every weekend and from what I see when I pass the airport, the Caravan has left and I have heard that Johnny and Nicky went back to Cross Keys, and the DZ has to shut down at the end of the month, exactly why I don't know for sure. I am an air drummer for sure.... I'm constantly learning and playing along while I'm driving. but that kinda happens after 8 years of drumline in school. They really should notify you when you first start playing drums in marching band that by the time you're 20 you'll have arthritis and tendonitis in your wrists. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. I just want to clarify what Bouda said about his legs, I'm a good friend of his and I got him into jumping. I have two of his jumps on my camera from his instructor and when he said his legs are too far apart he really meant it. He's basically the opposite of most aff students who fly with their feet on their butt. his legs are fully extended and spead really wide, his arms are out too far as well creating more of an X with his body than the boxman position. And by the way, just keep at it man, you'll get it eventually. Some things just take time to pick up on. Anvile Brother #59

I had an idea a couple months ago to help raise money for (insert cause here). People who pay for packjobs( minus people who have to pay for packjobs because of back to back loads ) can pack their own at least once each day they jump and take the 6 bucks they would have spent and donate it. I know most would probably rather just get the packjob and donate whatever. Just thought I would throw that out there. Anvile Brother #59

Thanks William, I guess I'm just a geek to the core. Anvile Brother #59

I propose we put Chile in charge of this project. Whatever he was eating last weekend was working great. I highly agree with this comment, Chile was tearing it up this past weekend in the plane. It was pretty bad man. Anvile Brother #59

Can't believe I didn't notice this thread sooner. I'm relativly new to skydiving but Gold Coast is my home on the weekends. Mike and Leanne are great people and I really hate to see something like this happening. I wanted to be there to support him today but unfortunatly I had to work today and that is in new orleans. I wouldn't gladly chain myself to the building right beside Mike if it came down to that. The people at this dropzone are like family and I would hate to see what could happen if they would have to relocate. All I can say is I wish the best Mike in all of this and I really hope it works out. Anvile Brother #59

the guy that owns a computer shop that I used to work for drives around town with his laptop and a wi-fi card looking for open networks that shouldn't be open and offers his services to fix the problem with their network. If you jack into their connection and hog bandwidth and mess with their computer systems then no it is not ethical. Finding open networks to help protect them is a service that many many business need because most small businesses don't have the capacity to have a network admin to know that this type of thing is occuring. Shit!! How do I get the damn thing in the bag!?!?
Darminion replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had issues as well when I first started packing. After I got my own gear (sabre 170) and got the chance to pack at home it came pretty easy. At first I thought that I had the one sabre 170 out there that always had soft openings. Now I realize that my packjobs were just messy and it made it snivel longer. Now that I am actually packing it well it's been spanking the shit out of me. Time to learn some new tricks I guess. Anvile Brother #59 -
Radio with throat mics in freefall
Darminion replied to Darminion's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
thanks for the info guys, I've seen these cheep ones before and you're right, they did have to be in the "sweet spot" for it to work well so unless you duct tape it to your neck, it probably wouldn't work well. Well thanks for the input guys Anvile Brother #59 -
Radio with throat mics in freefall
Darminion replied to Darminion's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
really sorry for the repost guys, that thread didn't mention the throat mic, they mentions the type of headset mic and earpiece like for a cell phone but that is a mic that pics up air vibrations so it would catch wind noise and make you sound like crap. the throat mic catches the vibrations directly from your vocal chords so wind noise wouldn't be transmited Anvile Brother #59 -

I would think that an earbud with some dense foam padding under a helmet would cancel out most of the wind noise. Anvile Brother #59 -
Radio with throat mics in freefall
Darminion replied to Darminion's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Came across some throat mics on ebay for pretty cheap and was wondering if anyone has tried this before in freefall. The work strictly on the vibration of your vocal chords and don't pick up outside noise so if you and a buddy had these on, you could talk to each other in freefall. Personally I think this would be cool for coach jumps so that the coach can tell you what you need to do while you're in the air feeling it instead of trying to figure out from the video why you weren't in the right position when you thought you were. Just a thought, open for any comments on this. Anvile Brother #59 -

See, now that is the really f'ed up part about this, I know that the USPA isn't a governing body but in situations like this they need to step in with some regulations. All they give are guidelines. I'm going to feel like shit when some unsuspecting student gets seriously injured or killed because of his negligence. Anvile Brother #59

This is the reason I'm just inquiring about it right now, because I don't want to be labeled like that but at the same time I'm concerned for the safety of the pepople this instructor is taking up. Anvile Brother #59

How much did you spend in 2004 on skydiving
Darminion replied to reddevil1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Three Tandems and AFF $3000 First rig $2700 (yes beer was bought already) 43 jumps @ $20 = $860 Finally doing something interesting and fun in my life and spending time with some of the greatest people on the planet (and above it) Priceless Anvile Brother #59 -
What if you find out that a tandem instructor who takes people up every weekend multiple times actually does not have a tandem rating? What action should be taken in that instance? Is this something for the USPA, FAA, or the rig manufacturer, or all three? Anvile Brother #59

Newbies: Do you pack your own rig?
Darminion replied to flyinghonu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 56 jumps and I've been packing since I got off of student status. Sure the first few jumps on my own packjobs were freaky but now I trust myself more than anyone else. And I know how to pack myself a decent opening on my canopy. Unless my Sabre 170 is having a bad day and decides not to like me. Anvile Brother #59 -
I had a scarey dream similar to this where I was on a big way, even though I have never been on one and don't plan on it anytime soon, and at breakoff I turned and tracked but there were people all around me still. So tried going another way and still, no matter where I tracked to there were like 20 people around me so I finally just dumped and prayed and the canopy inflated just in time for me to flare with a nasty plf. it really scared the shit out of me.
